i felt happy so i wanted to write this

basically newt thinking about thomas and being oblivious :') i love them 

I WROTE THIS IN A WEIRD WAY WHERES ITS SORT OF ME NARRATING (IDK) AND I REALLY LIKED WRITING IT FISKSMFM

Thomas had been Newt's best friend for... well, it had to have been at least 13 years. Newt had to really think to try and conjure up a memory that didn't include the brunet. They were joint by the hip most of the time.

Even when they first met, Newt and Thomas hadn't really wanted to leave each other. On that sunny afternoon, when the skies were blue, and Thomas had wondered over to the Brit (who was new and very, very awkward) and asked if he wanted to pretend to be on the London Eye with him. Thomas had been an inquisitive boy. Always asking questions, wanting to know absolutely everything that was going on. He still was, mind you. Newt admired that about him. He could probably make a list of all the things he appreciated about Thomas.

(He did do that once, but that's not the point. Plus, he was 12. Pathetic pre-teenage brain.)

Anyhow, Newt had always been there for Thomas. Through his edgy, emo playboy phase which still horrifies the pair to this day. Whenever Newt tries to make fun of him for it, Thomas always replies with a 'Teresa said it was hot!'. The thing is, Teresa used to think most things about Thomas were hot. They dated for around 2 years before they sort of fell apart, and stayed as friends. She was a nice woman, in Newt's opinion.

To be fair, a lot of people thought Thomas was hot. Any gender. He had a rather hot body, cute doe eyes, scraggy hair but that sort of scraggy that reminds you of a dog. You know, that perfect mix of cute and hot. But Newt has never thought that, obviously. 

Newt genuinely looked, and looks, up to Thomas. He thinks he is, quite simply, amazing.

Thomas always knows what to say in situations. God, Newt remembered Minho telling them that his dog died (R.I.P Minho. Newt always thought the poor dog deserved a better name than Minho.). He had felt so bad for Minho... both Minho's. He always thought the dog was worthy of a better life, especially. Newt had possibly just stood there like a scarecrow, and although maybe not scaring off crows, he definitely scared off people. Thomas, however, instantly jumped into action and apologised for his loss. But not repetitively, no, he just said it once and gave Minho a hug. If Thomas has said it over and over and over, he probably would've been as helpful as Newt. Then again, maybe Newt was an overreacting idiot.

Thomas is extremely smart. He might lack common sense, but his intelligence is definitely very high. He always got straight A's on everything at school (annoying), and plus he went on to doing some weird physics scientist thing. Newt has no idea and doesn't give a diddly-squat. Adding on, Thomas is also very athletic. He always came top 3 on track races (once again, annoying) and was almost as good as Minho. Which was definitely a compliment. Newt used to be a tad jealous of this, but hey, if Thomas was happy, he was happy. He loves him and wants the best for him.

Not in a... romantic way, of course.

Newt just wanted to see Thomas striving, and he's always so happy and glad for him when things go right for the brunet. In their embarrassing school years and career years alike. Maybe more so in their career years. 

Romance was never on the top of Newt's list, you see. The only proper relationship he ever had was with Minho, shiver, and it wasn't his best experience. All the relationship consisted of was sex and stupid dates that were actually quit sweet. Okay, maybe it wasn't all as bad as he says it is. But anyway, Newt had always decided he was just going to wait for love to spring at him.

He sometimes wants to tell himself, 'maybe it's been here the whole time?'. But then again, who would it have been? 

Minho? Already off the list.

Teresa? God no.

Alby? Uhh, no. Sweet but no. 

Bren- no.

Thomas. They'd been best friends for ages. Nothing more.

But the more Newt thinks about it, maybe dating Thomas wouldn't be too bad. Maybe the attraction he felt when he saw a shirtless Tommy wasn't just platonic. Yeah, that'd make a lot of sense.

It didn't matter though. Newt has plenty of time to work it out, and all he needs to know is:

- he's an idiot,

- he really likes Tommy.
