「 summer camp ; 1 」

The bus finally came to a stop after a 3 hour drive from the city. Everyone piled out, a mixed bag of emotions swirled around the group; there were those who couldn't stop grinning from excitement and then there were those who looked like they'd have more fun babysitting a bunch of bratty kids. For two weeks, you and a bunch of other random teenagers would be staying at Camp Glade, with no reception, no internet connection, no movies, no earphones, and no electronics whatsoever. You were going to spend fourteen days reconnecting with nature, finding enlightenment in the middle of nowhere and maybe even communicate with others your age, face to face.

You hadn't realized how horrible the air you were so used to breathing back in the city was until you stepped off the bus and took one whiff of the mountain fresh air, out here in the woods. You could hear every sound of nature from the rushing water of a nearby river to the birds chirping in the tree tops. Already, you felt at peace.

You grabbed your backpack as you waited for your two friends to join you.

A smile broke across your face after seeing the disgusted look on Brenda's face as she stumbled off the bus. "(y/n)!" she immediately ran up to you, "get me out of here! I can't stand it anymore" wrapping her arms around your neck, she cried into your shoulder. You rolled your eyes playfully at how dramatic she was being.

"You haven't even been here for five minutes, Brenda. Give this place a chance" Teresa was next off the bus, already telling Brenda off and smirking as she carried her luggage with ease as most of the other girls had trouble carrying their backpacks. Teresa was the complete opposite of Brenda and yet they managed to get a long so well. With your help of course.

"Fine, but only because (y/n)'s here." Brenda sniffed. With the snap of her fingers, a boy was already tripping over his own feet to carry Brenda's bags for her. Of course, one of Brenda's many aficionados. You smiled, shaking your head as you reached for your own suitcase when your hand accidently brushed against someone else's.

"Sorry!" you apologized, realizing you were reaching for the wrong suitcase. You looked up to see a rather cute boy with brown hair looking down, confused.

"huh? th- that's okay. I should've labelled my suitcase, I'm sorry" flustered, he grabbed the handle of the suitcase and dashed off. You giggled, he was cute but you weren't sure why he was apologizing to you.

"Flirting with someone else, (y/n)? I'm hurt" a familiar voice called out to you. You turned around to see Minho smirking. You sighed in slight annoyance. You've known Minho ever since the beginning of high school, he's been flirting with you since the day he caught you staring at his perfect upper body during swimming. It wasn't your fault he had such a flawless body with amazing arms and perfectly chiselled-

"It'll last longer if you take a picture!" he winked, snapping you back to reality. You blushed slightly, averting your eyes quickly. You heard his usual, confidence filled laughter. You were pouting, he had caught you staring, again!

Your eyes landed on a tall blond walking your way. His lean body adorned the camp uniform. The way he wore it made it look amazing rather than tacky and just plain ugly. You stared in awe as he casually strode over to your group, watching as he smiled towards the bus driver. You knew you weren't the only one captivated by the blond as almost every single girl in the group gawked at the new stranger with stars in their eyes and mouths agape.

"see ya in two weeks, Janson" the tall blond nodded at the bus driver who too seemed enchanted as he drove off in a daze. Who could blame him?

"Alright, ladies and gents. Name's Newt and I welcome you to camp Glade" he grinned widely, this time gesturing towards everyone in the group. You bit back a giggle and began awkwardly fiddling with the straps of your bag, unware of Brenda and Teresa giving each other sly looks beside you.

"I'm going to be your counsellor for the next two weeks you'll be living here. I'll be responsible for not only your safety but also your fun. I want you to enjoy the time you spend here, without having to rely on technology. Any questions so far?"

A girl with long, curled hair raised her hand, "what sort of fun will we be having?" you heard giggles erupt from the group of girls surrounding her.  You rolled your eyes, 'how immature' you thought.

Newt, the camp counsellor, didn't seem to catch the underlying tone in the girl's question, or maybe he chose to ignore it. Either way, he answered with a simple, "how about reading our brochure?" he smiled, handing her one.

You smirked, stifling a giggle. Newt smirked, looking at you. He had obviously amused you and he was proud. You didn't mean for him to hear you laugh at the girl. Now he probably thinks you're a terrible person.

"How about cabins?" a boy called out, gaining a lot of approval from fellow campers.

"That would be my next point. Ladies will be staying on left side of camp and gentlemen on the right side. Later when we actually go to our cabins, I'll point them out to you, including my quarters. Right now, we've got to split into two groups, A and B. A will be participating in a set group of activities for the first week and B will be participating in a different set of activities. Then at week two, we'll swap. I'll split you into...2...4...6...10...14...18...20 so two groups of ten. Would you like to pick your own groups or shall I?" Newt asked. How very considerate of him.

"We'll pick our own, thanks!" Minho called out as he draped an arm over your shoulder with a wide, obnoxious grin plastered on his cheeks. You groaned and shook him off, "actually I'd rather be in the group he's not in".

Newt sighed, "Alright I'll decide. You, you, you, you four, you and you two in group A. the rest of you in group B"

"Wait, which group am I in?" you asked, completely confused.

"A" Newt replied with a smile.

"(y/n)! We're in the same group!" Brenda giggled, hugging you. Teresa stood beside her, grinning as well. You were excited to be with your two best friends and relieved you weren't with-

"Hey, looks like we're together too (y/n)" Minho smirked, sending you a wink.

It's going to be a long two weeks.
