Pirate!Newt ; part one

AU where Newt is a pirate captain and you're a mermaid. (Gif is not mine!)

Through the dense fog of the early morning, the young captain commands his men to set sail in the direction of the rising sun. Below, the crew immediately spring into action and without a trace of hesitation, they follow their trusted captain's orders to leave the Navy port.

Of course, it is without hesitation that the motley crew of young boys would follow their captains' orders yet, everyone is thinking and feeling the same dread as they all sneak glances behind them. Their friend, a fellow pirate brother, left behind to rot in a cell while they sail off free. Why had their captain allowed this to happen?

The crew's disquiet does not go unnoticed, but the captain does not want to worry them and instead retires back to his cabin after giving his final order. To sail to the island claimed by pirates where begins their journey to find perhaps, the greatest treasure humanity seeks.

A mysterious island, hidden in the deepest barrier of fog and mist believed to be of a deadly nature, is home to the infamous fountain of youth. Bringing back the magical waters of this fountain is the only way for the pirate Captain Newt to return to the Navy port and ensure that the lives of not only him and his crew but also Thomas is set free from the chains of the Navy.

Perhaps, is it only Thomas whose life is in real danger, being the one who's in literal chains back in a Navy cell awaiting execution but Newt and his crew are bound by their promise to their friend and a deal struck between the captain and his enemy. Newt has never gone back on his word, never broken an agreement and does not intend to tarnish his reputation as a feared and relentless pirate captain.

Newt keeps his deal with the Navy a secret from his crew. Only promises them they will return and only then the world will know truly, the wrath of a scorned pirate captain.

They arrive at the pirate haven and Newt wastes no time in seeking what he desires. His crew are ordered to check inventory and gather new supplies whilst he seeks the services of a well-known mystic. Newt needs to know all that he can before further endangering the lives of his crew as well as his own. He cannot go seeking for something that does not want to be found.

To his dismay, the old hag only tells him to heed her warnings and not to play with things he possibly cannot comprehend. The danger and trials that come with seeking the fountain of youth will not fair kind to him. In fact, the only way he will arise victorious is through blood shed and on the verge of death.

He steals her maps and once gain sails out towards the open sea under the light of the moon.

When you're a mermaid, time is not as important as when you're a human. You're free to swim the great oceans and not worry about how many moons have past and who will be waiting for you when you return. You do not seek land to take refuge on, you have no need for contact with the human world and do not care who guards the ports. It is all yours to take, as a mermaid.

The fish play freely with you, they swim in schools and you can't help but admire the way their scales shimmer underneath the rays of sun bursting through the surface of the water. Your scales exhibit a similar shimmer when you swim and with a tail a mixture of colors, you're sure that any human would be mesmerized instantly. Your tail hasn't garnered you the unwanted attention of trouble you couldn't handle but as quickly as the tides can change, so can the direction your fate travels.

This time, your fate comes in the form of a human.

You left the haven you called home, and home to many other merfolk like you when you were just a youngling. It wasn't by choice, but fate playing its strings to play a song that would forever leave you homeless and alone. Quickly, you learnt to survive in your new home, the infinite waters of the earth. It was easier said than done, having almost lost a limb and you're reminded by the permanent scars that wind like sea snakes up your arm.

You break the surface of the water and just let yourself flow with the current. It took months for you to trust the water again but now there isn't a single fiber of you that completely and solely belongs to the sea.

You can almost hear the winding of a music box, slowly but surely getting louder. Then a tune plays, unfamiliar but soothing. It sends you almost to sleep but the waves, sensing the true and malevolent nature of the music, crash violently, sending you hurling beneath the water's surface.

The ocean tries to warn you, sending powerful and violent waves one after the other, forcing you to swim deeper down so you'll no longer being tossed around. Stay hidden. It tells you.

You use your tail to propel yourself upwards. You should listen to the ocean, but your heart is beating so fast, excitement and curiosity getting the better of you. You'd soon wish you had heeded the ocean's warnings.

You let out a pained scream as something pierces your tail just as you break the surface and instantly fear rushes through your veins as the blood seeps out. Red stains the ocean and you can almost hear its cries as if it were the one bleeding. There're tears blurring your vision and your head spins at the sight of so much blood, your blood. Your fingers find the thin metal still stuck in your tail and you recognize it to be a spear, like the one's merfolk use to hunt prey. It's gone completely through your tail and you can see both ends of the spear.

The pain becomes excruciating and you feel yourself fall back under the water, unable to use your tail to swim. You're not even sure where the weapon has come from and taking it out now will only make things worse. There's a large shape, almost whale like but not quite, it breaks the ocean surface as it comes towards you. You think it might just pass over head and you let yourself calm down, using only the tiniest movements of your tail to keep you from falling deeper into the darkness.

You watch as something falls beneath the large shape and your eyes widen in fear at the sight of a net, much like the ones used to capture prey. Once again, you can feel the ocean trying to save you, creating waves much bigger than before, trying to force you further away from your hunters but the pain is far too much. You rely on the ocean too much and your fate is sealed.

You writhe in pain, both from the spear in your tail that makes it feel like all your individual scales are being torn right off your body as well as the burning of the ropes of the net against the rest of your exposed body. Slowly, you feel the net being heaved upwards into the sky, taking you along with it.

As if mourning a betrayal, the ocean continues to heave violently and seeing the waves beneath you rather than around you, you almost shudder in fear but quickly you realize it is not a betrayal it mourns, it is a loss.

You hear grunting as the net continues to be hoisted and your heart speeds up again in anticipation and dread, only moments away from coming face to face with your captor. You hear incoherent yelling, voices belonging only to men and the loud thundering of boots running.

You hear loud gasps followed by silence when your body is finally dropped onto a solid surface, the feeling alien to you as you've only ever known the comfort of the sea waters. You're dropped to violently, the pain from the spear still embedded in your tail is sent aflame and your fangs become exposed when a loud and shrill cry escapes your throat.

The men step back but grip their weapons tightly, as if you are the evil.

The young captain can barely believe his eyes. His crew is silent, watching as the mermaid stares back at them with wide and frightened eyes. Newt almost stumbles when your tearful eyes meet his and for a moment, he forgets how you had just bared your sharp dagger like teeth to them. He sees only a terrified young girl, dripping wet with sea water as you shiver and your teeth clatter but then he sees one of his crew's spear, piercing your tail and the awful sight of blood staining his deck.

You're in agony but you're also frozen in fear and shock as the group of young men continue to stare at you. You wrap your arms around you to make yourself seem smaller, as if you could shrink away into nothing.

There's one boy who wasn't with the rest of them but stood on a higher level, watching you. His blonde hair sways so delicately in the wind, the sun sets behind him and you're captivated by his radiance. The sun doesn't compare to him, you think to yourself and you almost forget that you're in pain.

You see his lips move but you're too far away to hear him. The boys must've heard him however, as a few turn back to look at the blonde boy. You see them exchange worried glances as they watch him descend the steps. His eyes never leave yours and once he's closer enough, you see nothing but coldness in his eyes. He wears a hardened expression, his lips held tightly together and his hand gripping tightly on the weapon strapped to his side.

"Did she burst your eardrums?! Take it out!" the blonde boy yells suddenly to the others and you flinch but then the pain erupts again, and you cry out.

"No! Don't!" you plead, salty tears spring from your eye as you know he means the spear.

Author's note: I missed my beautiful boy,,,

Definitely my favorite piece I've written. I've been wanting to do write separately a pirate and mermaid one since starting this book but now I guess you get two in one.
