Pirate!Newt ; part five
It's no longer just a mermaid the young pirate captain has on his ship but a mermaid who has grown legs and all that of a woman. The poor thing suffered greatly for three days, without her memory and all alone in the captain's quarters as the captain took those three days and came up with a solution to both their problems.
None of the others were allowed to see you. You wore his clothes, a sheer white shirt with sleeves rolled up, tucked into a pair of high waisted black trousers and brown boots with holes in them. They were the captains and now, yours.
You'd never felt the wind in your hair before as you'd lived all your life beneath the water's surface. It's odd, constantly smelling and tasting salt, staying completely dry and relying on a pair of legs to move around. Odd, yet better than being stuck in a glass tank.
Your memory of your life as a mermaid came back painstakingly slow and even the memories you had long forgotten about resurfaced to remind you that you'd never be free of the ocean and it is the ocean you will always belong to.
Newt thinks about you always. He looks out into the vast ocean and sees only you, he watches each sunset and sunrise to only think about you. He has all the details of your features burned into his mind by now and it bothers him to think about you the way he does. It's guilt and maybe even resentment but he's going to make sure that Thomas is once again part of his crew and you are returned to the ocean, no matter how he feels about you.
The true value of having a mermaid aboard one's ship...you'd though about it for days now. Thinking about ways to trick the pirate into keeping you around longer but you're no longer a mermaid and you no longer possess the tricks of the ocean.
Perhaps you'll tell him you can predict the ocean and the changes in the weather, perhaps you'll tell him he needs your tear to find the fountain of youth, or perhaps-
"You'll stay on my ship until I am done with you. I need something from you." The captain tells you, his words come after days of silence.
"You've already taken something from me. Something far more valuable than my life" You turn to face the young pirate. His indifferent expression doesn't change but you recognize the guilt that's been eating away at him from the very first day you were brought upon his ship. It's always there, when he looks at you.
"But I too need something from you, my dear captain." You look at him, watch as your words take him by surprise but the captain is quick to regain himself.
"You'll take us to the wondering lovers and we will bring them together. Perhaps they will remember one of their own".
"One of their own?" Newt doesn't seem to be surprised by what you suggest. Maybe he thinks it's doable or maybe he thinks you're just playing him.
"Yes, they were lost to the fog but also to the ocean. They and I, are quite alike". You give Newt a small smile and you want him to smile back at you but he doesn't.
"Does it sound crazy, my dear captain? To chase a pair of lovers who have been wondering the seas for centuries?"
Newt looks away. Yes, it does, he wants to say but he bites his tongue and instead shakes his head 'no' and gives you one of his maps.
"To where do we sail?"
