Slowly, you approach your blond haired boyfriend who sits reading a book at the kitchen table. Even in just a plain white t-shirt and blue jeans, Newt looks like the most ethereal person in the whole world. Especially with the rays of morning sunlight entering through the window, sparkling around his tall frame. 

You're still, mouth slightly ajar as you can only stare at Newt in awe. His messy hair, downcast eyes and his slender fingers flipping each page. 

Wow. 

Newt notices you and instantly notices what you're hiding behind your back but he pretends as though he still oblivious. 

You want it to be more of a surprise but you fail to suppress your excitement and thus the grin on your lips. Newt notices this too and can't help the grin forming on his own features. 

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Newt asks, a short laugh escapes his lips.

A blush creeps onto your cheeks but your shyness only lasts a second as you return to your previous manner of giddiness. 

You had rehearsed over and over how you'd do this, a big gesture with every word of romance you could think of but in the moment, none of that matters. 

"What, is there a dog behind your back?" Newt finally asks. 

You shake your head whilst still smiling and finally bring around the large bouquet of flowers from behind your back.  

"I know we said we wouldn't do anything but I couldn't go the day without telling you how much I love you." You bite your bottom lip, feeling slightly embarrassed. Newt carefully places his book down the table before standing up. He only smiles, letting you speak your mind.

"It's not much and I had a whole speech planned out to make it better but then I realized I didn't need one. Newt I adore you so much, you're the most warmhearted, kind and genuine person I know." You're about to burst into tears, thinking about all the words and feelings you want to get across to Newt but you're stuck. 

 Newt finally closes the distance between you, still not saying anything, he takes the flowers out of your hand and places them on the table. He then seals your lips in the most passionate and sweet kiss you recall ever experiencing. 

When you part, Newt gives you a gentle and loving smile. 

After basking in the moment, Newt breaks the silence even though you didn't mind it. 

"You know how we made a promise of not getting each other anything and you just broke it? Well, so did I." Newt confesses with an innocent smile causing you to laugh. You raise an eyebrow questioningly when he steps back and reaches into his pocket. 

Your eyes go wide and the moment Newt begins to lower himself onto one knee you realize what he's about to do. 

Newt begins to speak as he simultaneously holds out the small box in front of him. "(Y/N), not even the stars in the sky shine as brightly as you do. I want you to understand how much you mean to me and see yourself the way I see you, because wow, (y/n), you're so bloody amazing and wonderful. Will you marry me?" 

A/N:

I was going to make a joke about pitying myself for spending valentine's day looking up pictures of cute couples to add in my fanfics written for fictional characters but then I remembered how much I love Newt and it made me feel better : ) no need for a joke, i am the joke.
