RECOVERING

Roy called some of his coworkers to pick up Mephiles so he could be taken to the hospital. Dani, Silver and Maria decided to come with them, so Maria told Shadow to let the others rest at their house and gave him the key. Shadow lead his guests to his place and unlocked the door.

Fleetway was resting at Shadow's bed and Scourge sat next to him. He decided to leave them and went to the living room where he and Sonic was with the eggs.

Shadow sat on the couch next to his mate who kept staring at the cushion on the small coffee table.

"Hey, are you okay?"

"I just still feel guilty for what I've done..." the blue one sighed and leaned back, "I almost killed our eggs by ignoring them...I should've fought for them." His voice began to shake and he covered one of his eyes with his hand, "I'm sorry..." he mumbled with tears flowing down his eyes.

Shadow furrowed his brow and hold his mate's shoulders so they would face each other. "It's never your fault. You were stressed because I wasn't there and you're still new at being a parent." He lighten his grip and soften his expression, "I don't ever wanna see you blame yourself for every thing that happened at that place...alright?"

Sonic sniffled, "a-alright...but still, I'm sorry for almost abandoning our egg." He apologized again.

Shadow could only sigh and pull him for a hug, "I love you."

Sonic returned the hug and hide his face on his mate's shoulder, "I love you too."

The Dominant one pulled his mate into a loving kiss, they stopped after a moment and stare onto each other's gazes. The darker one smiled softly and brushed the other's muzzle. He then got up from the couch.

"I'm gonna get you a drink."

"Oh, o-okay." Sonic nodded.

Shadow came back with a glass of warm water for his mate. He also brought some for Scourge and Fleetway on ths other room before coming back to sit with Sonic again.

"Anyway...how is your neck? Is it weird after not being free from that collar for so long?"

"Oh." Sonic reached his hand up to his neck. "I feel nice after I got my collar off...I bet Silver feel the same." He smiled.

"I'm so glad to hear that." Shadow said as he brushed his fingers on his mate's neck, "I want every part of you to be free." He moved his hand down and held Sonic's hand.

They scoot in to sit close to each other. Sonic leaned his head on the shoulder of his mate and purred. The couple felt like it had been years since they saw each other, especially for Sonic who was dealing with his small depression. Thankfully the negative feelings were starting to fade as long as his mate was there.

Meanwhile, Fleetway was resting at Shadow's bed with his eyes closed. He wasn't sleeping, he was just laying there to recover his energy. Scourge decided to sit on the floor and rest his arms and chin on the bed, watching over his mate.

"Mh...Scourge?" The tired hedgehog opened his eyes to find his mate by his side.

The younger one's ears perked and he lift his head up, "yes? Do you need something?" He asked.

Fleetway sat up from the bed and his signature glow was slowly coming back. Scourge got up and sat on the edge.

"I just need to sit for a bit." Fleetway smiled.

"You need to lay down...you wasted so much power."

"Oh come on, how weak do you think I am?" He chuckled and held his hand. "I'm all better now, don't worry." He brought the hand up and kissed the back palm.

Scourge sighed and blushed lightly, he used his other hand and gently brush Fleetway's muzzle. He pinned his ears down and hesitated to spoke.

"Fleetway..."

"Yes, dear?"

"This human, Dani, he figured out about my scar and my infertility."

Fleetway's eyes widen in surprise. He hold both of Scourge's hands and stare deeply into his eyes.

"Are you going to be okay? Do I need to do anything to the human?" He asked.

"I'm fine, but...I don't really know how to feel." Scourge looked away, "he said he wanted to help us...and help me recover my body so I can lay egg again." He mumbled.

Fleetway perked his ears up, he was also unsure of how to feel about what the human said to his mate considering their awful experience with most of them. He stared at their hands and hesitated to give an answer.

"Should we leave?"

Fleetway stared at him again, "huh?"

"You seem to not like the idea, should we just leave?" Scourge asked.

"No no, wait. Let's think about this first." The other sighed. "I mean...the humans that were with Shadow are all not bad, er, I guess. If Dani said he can help you then I'm willing to try." He smiled and kissed his mate's cheek, "if there's a chance for us to have a child then I'll take it."

Scourge blushed, he was not ready for that answer. He actually expected something unhinge to come out of his mouth or genuine hatred toward the human for mentioning his scar and his condition.

"But it's still all up to you, if you want Dani to take a look on you then you should be the one to decide." Fleetway assured.

The green hedgehog looked away. He thought that it's nice for his mate to consider his feekings and put his choice first, but deep down he was still scared. His last encounter with a human was the cause of his scar, it's hard for him to move on from the traumatic incident.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before staring at his glowing mate. "Okay...if we can have a child then I'll give it a try."

Fleetway smiled and nodded, "I'm so proud of you." He said and gave him another kiss.

At the hospital, Mephiles was taken to the doctor to get better help. Silver and Maria waited outside of the room while Roy and Dani were still checking in at the front desk. From the injuries, Mephiles was going to be hospitalized.

After waiting for so long, the doctor finally came out of the room. Silver and Maria stood up and eagerly waited for the doctor to give some information regarding Mephiles' condition.

"Doctor, how bad is he? Will he be okay?" Maria asked worryingly.

"He's gradually stabilizing despite the many bullet he's taken. He'll be doing just fine thanks to his regenerative ability." The doctor explained with an assuring smile.

Maria and Silver let out a relieved sigh at the information. They smiled at each other then back at the doctor again.

"Can we see him?" She asked.

"We will need to let him rest for a moment. We're also going to move him to his assigned room, so you can see him when he's moved." The doctor stated.

"Ah, I see. Well, thank you very much." Maria smiled. The doctor smiled back and nodded his head before walking away to attend to other patients.

"So we're gonna have to wait until Mephiles is moved to his room?" Silver looked up and asked her.

"Yeah. Let's go and meet up with Roy and Dani for now." Maria said and held his hand. "We also need to let Shadow and the others know about this. If Mephiles is staying here then I won't be going home. I have to take care of him."

"Wait, I wanna stay too!" Silver said with his ears perked.

Maria chuckled at the sudden respond, "of course, we'll stay together so Mephiles won't feel lonely." She said and made the hedgehog smile brightly.

They found the front desk, but they also found a public telephone that Maria could use to call her house. She decided to use the telephone and dialed the number, waiting for Shadow to pick it up.

Once Shadow picked up the line, Maria explained to him about his twin's current condition and that he was hospitilized. She also told him that she and Silver would not be at home, so Shadow was in charge of the house.

"I understand, Maria. I'll make sure our guests are well taken care of."

"Thank you, Shadow. I'll see you later, okay?"

"Okay. Bye, Maria."

Then they both hung up. Maria and Silver wdnt back to meet the adults and waited for Mephiles to be transfered to his new room.
