THE START OF A BAD IDEA

Sonic and Silver were still in their rooms after five days of laying their eggs. Shadow and Mephiles had to take their meals to the room so they both can eat it. They didn't want to leave their rooms because for the moment it was their nest for their eggs.

"Hey Shadow, my chest is getting bigger. Is this normal?" Sonic said while holding his chest.

"It's normal, don't you know why?" Shadow asked while replacing the cloth on the egg's cushion.

"Um...I don't think so." Sonic replied.

"You're producing milk."

"But we lay eggs!"

"Ever heard of platypus?" Shadow raised his brow.

"I- uh...oh..."

"Yeah, we're one weird creature like them." The older one chuckled. He got up and took the egg from Sonic's arms so he could place it down to the cushion.

"So...I'm gonna have big breasts?"

Shadow scoffed from holding his laughter, "no...but just enough for our baby when they hatch." He smiled.

"But why can't I have big breasts?" Sonic pouted.

"Because you're not pure female nor you are pure male, so this is probably as big as it's gonna get." The taller one chuckled and grabbed his chest. "And I like it, fits right in my palm." He smirked.

The smaller hedgehog blushed but he smirked back, "wow, you must really know how to show your love to me~"

"I show it in a lot of ways, but for now I'm going to hold it." Shadow chuckled and pulled his hands back.

"Come on, a second egg would be nice." The blue one teased and nudged his muzzle to his mate's neck.

"You're such a needy hedgehog." Shadow grabbed his chin and kissed him on the lips, "you'll get your second baby later."

"Aww." Sonic whined and laid himself down on the other's lap.

Suddenly, they heard the door for the elevator opened and their ears perked at the sound of the footsteps coming inside the living room. It was Annie, she came in to deliver their meals.

"Shadow, Mephiles, I got your mates' lunch." She called.

The twins walk out of the bedrooms and head towards the counter.

"Um...hey, is it okay for me to check the egg now?" Annie asked nervously.

Shadow and Mephiles took the plates and then glared at the only human in the room.

"How many times have we told you? We're not gonna allow you to touch the egg." Shadow claimed.

"But it's almost a week now, I really wanna see it." She sighed.

"There, you see it." Mephiles pointed at the egg in the room, "now you can leave."

"You know that's not what I meant." Annie grumbled and folded her arms upsettingly.

"Just what is with the word 'no' that you don't understand?" Shadow said as a threat.

"Fine fine." The caretaker rolled her eyes in annoyance, "I'll be back with your meals..." she sighed and left.

Annie took the elevator to go down and get the twins' rabbit meat. She prepared it for them and delivered it back to the top floor. She then went down to the third floor to head to her office, she threw herself to her chair and groaned.

"What is it now?" Her co-worker asked.

"I'm really upset that Mephiles and Shadow still won't let me see the eggs up close."

"Oh come on, I'm sure they know what they're doing. They probably don't need your help because...well...they're new parents, they're very hostile and territorial now." Dani explained.

"Yeah but I still wanna check it myself! We've never had a Cross Hedgehog egg before and I really want to study it!" Annie grunted.

"Annie, there's nothing you could do right now. Even if you do, the twins are going to eat you." Dani stated.

Annie leaned back on her chair and looked away upsettingly. She stared at her desk and she spotted her phone, a few seconds later she suddenly had an idea and smiled.

"Hey Dan, I forgot we only need them for the breeding process. We DID promise Maria that we'd bring them home after the mating's done, right?" She sat straight on her chair.

Dani stared at her with a suspicious and concerned look, "uh...yeah?"

"Then we should send the twins back home! Maria must really miss them right now." She got up and head to the door.

"Hey wait! How are you even going to convince them to leave? The eggs aren't even hatched yet!" Her co-worker chased her.

"You're right, we can't." She trailed off, "but I have a plan, help me out."

Dani followed her to the elevator, his anxiety went up when they reached the fifth floor. It was the location of the facility's laboratory where the staff process the blood to become medicine.

"Hey...what exactly is the plan?" He asked as the door opened and they both stepped out.

"So step 1, we make a sleeping drug." She smiled and stopped at an empty lab table, "step 2, pour it in their dinner." She continued while opening a cabinet under the table, "step 3, we send them home at night." She got up with a few equipments and finished her sentence.

Dani stared at his friend in shock. "Are you crazy? What will Sonic and Silver think about that?"

"They won't know, I'll just tell them that their mates decided to go home early." Annie shrugged.

"And what would the twins think of you when they wake up just to be back at Mavani Village without their mates and eggs?"

"I...honestly...don't care." She said truthfully. "I'm tired of always being controlled by them, I can't even look at the eggs!"

"You'll betray their trust even more, Annie!"

"Well they shouldn't have been so hard on me! All I wanted is to look at the eggs and they kept threatening me!" She snapped.

Dani couldn't believe that his friend would go so far as to drug the twin hedgehogs just so she could get her hands on the eggs. He looked away for a moment and put his hands on his hips.

"You changed so much."

Annie raised her brow. "Am I? Or are you just worried over nothing?"

"You weren't like this when you first rescued Sonic and Silver. The medicine you developed is great and all...but you can't treat them like this." Dani stared at her disappointingly.

"You know what? You can leave..." Annie sighed, "I'll deal with this on my own." She turned around and went to the chemical storage room.

Dani was really sad about her behavior, but he couldn't do anything once she set her mind to do something. He turned himself around to go to the elevator. He could only hope that nothing bad was going to happen.

"Alright let's go to sleep, Sonic." Shadow set the lights to be dim and closed the door.

"Another day will pass and we keep getting closer to the egg to hatch!" Sonic squealed while jumping on the bed in excitement.

"Okay okay calm down, save that energy for later." The older hedgehog chuckled and got to the bed. "For now, let's rest."

Sonic stopped jumping around and went under the blanket with his mate, "hehe goodnight Shadow." He purred and kissed his cheek.

Shadow smiled softly and returned the kiss, "goodnight Sonic."
