THE SHARED HAPPINESS

Sonic woke up after a few hours of sleep and he tried to get up, but the stinging pain on his lower back stopped him and he laid down again.

"Augh....Shadow..." he groaned.

Shadow quickly went inside the room, he heard him because he didn't close the door.

"How are you feeling?" He approached his mate and crouched down.

"It hurts so bad!" He whined, "can you call Annie here, please?"

The older hedgehog's ears were folded, he didn't like the idea in the slightest. Despite it, they really do need her to give him some medicine or something to ease his pain.

"Alright..." he got up and went to the living room.

"What are you doing?" Mephiles asked when he saw his twin approaching the button on the wall.

"We need to call Annie...she needs to give them medicine for the pain..." Shadow sighed. "Is Silver not awake yet?"

"No...you can go ahead and call her."

Shadow pressed the button and the speaker buzzed, it connected to Annie's office.

"Yes?"

"Sonic's awake, he needs something to reduce the pain in his body."

"Alright, well...just in time for lunch. I'll be there soon." She said and the buzzing noise was gone.

The red-striped hedgehog put his hands on his hips and mumbled something angrily, he still didn't trust the human.

He turned back to Sonic's room and took the egg, he sat on the bed and showed it to his mate.

"Here, this is yours." He smiled.

Sonic smiled brightly and held the egg carefully, he stared at it and gave it a slow stroke.

"Oh I can't wait to see you hatch." He chuckled lightly. "Do you think our baby will look a lot like me?"

"Probably." Shadow smiled, "I'm sure our chuld will be as adorable as you." He stroke Sonic's head and made him purr.

"What should we name our baby?"

"Hmm...let's wait until it hatched." Shadow said, "that way we can determine the perfect name." He smiled.

Sonic smiled back and blushed, "you're right."

At the other room, Silver also just woke up but he didn't move nor did he make a sound. He stared sleepily at the egg on the cushion and got a little confused for a moment. When he tried to sit up he also felt the stinging pain on his lower body and he screamed.

The scream alerted Mephiles and he quickly ran into the room.

"What happened?!"

The pale hedgehog saw his mate curled up in his blanket, ears down and he was trembling.

"Silver? What's wrong?" He walk to him and placed his hand on the other's body.

"I forgot...I was laying an egg...my body hurts..." Silver grunted and tried not to move too much.

Mephiles sat on the edge of the bed and gently stroke his hand on Silver's back. "Shadow just called Annie...she'll be here in a moment." He said.

Silver didn't respond since he was still in so much pain. The older hedgehog could only comfort him little by little and it stressed him out. He really wanted to help but he couldn't and it infuriated him even more knowing that they're relying on the human caretaker to help them.

After the torturous wait, Annie finally arrived to the room. She brought the medicine needed to relieve the pain and a tray of food.

Annie first visited Silver since his pain didn't go down. She carefully injected the medicine through the syringe for a faster effect of the medicine. And of course, seeing the medical equipment almost made Mephiles and Shadow to attack her again.

She proceeded to care for Sonic after making sure that Silver's condition was stabilized. Annie grabbed a new syringe and injected the same medicine to him.

"Alright...that should do it." The caretaker smiled. "Time to check the egg." She stood up after putting away her medical stuff.

"You are NOT touching our egg!" Shadow hissed and stood in front of the egg that was placed back in the round cushion.

"I just need to make sure that it's fertile-"

"You think we can't detect that? It's obviously fertile! You can take care of Sonic and Silver but you're not touching the eggs!" Shadow exclaimed with his spikes raised.

Annie couldn't really do much at that point, she didn't want to risk getting attacked again and not while the young hedgehogs were still in bed and in healing progress. She sighed and nodded her head.

"Okay, fine, I won't touch it." She said while raising her hands in a defensive gesture.

"Thanks for the help, Annie." Sonic said and caught her attention.

"You're welcome." She smiled. "Once the pain's gone, go eat your meals, okay?" She said and Sonic nodded.

Shadow kept glaring at Annie as she walked to the door. Once she reached the elevator and left, Shadow finally let out a reliebed sigh as if a predator was gone from their territory. He went back to Sonic's room and stayed beside his mate until he feel better.

"You're so mean to Annie." Sonic said bluntly.

"I don't like her and I don't trust her." Shadow said and sat on the edge of the bed. "Well- enough about her, I'd love to think more about you and the egg."

"Hehe I can't wait for it to hatch." Sonic giggled, "after being alone for so long, well with Silver...it's really nice to have a family with you."

The older hedgehog blushed and smiled softly, he leaned down and kissed his mate's muzzle. "Same here, we're going to take good care of our little hoglet."

"I wonder if I can request my own house from Annie. That'd be cool, right?" Sonic wondered.

"Yeah that's a really good idea, though I doubt she'll accept that." Shadow rolled his eyes, "it'd be so much better if we take the egg and live in Mavani Village."

"Well...I guess I don't care wherever we are as long as we're together." Sonic smiled.

The statement made Shadow blush again and he leaned humself down to hug his mate while purring. Sonic chuckled and wrapped his arms around the other.

"You're heavy!"

"Shut up, you're so soft and squishy." Shadow said and kept kissing his muzzle.

"Stop it- not in front of the egg!" Sonic whined.

"Our child is still asleep in there." Shadow chuckled. "It won't hatch anytime soon so relax." He then purred on Sonic's neck, making the peach muzzle to turn red.

Meanwhile, Mephiles was sitting on the edge of Silver's bed and was comforting his mate.

"Noo! I just gave birth! Stop!"

They both jumped in surprise when they heard Sonic screamed that.

"You didn't give birth! You layed an egg!"

"That's the same thing!"

Mephiles grumbled and got up from the bed, he closed the door so his twin's weird conversation wasn't heard anymore.

"Those two, I swear..." the pale hedgehog mumbled annoyingly. "Uh, anyway...how's your body? Are you still hurt?" He turned to sit on the bed again.

"I feel a little better...not as painful as before." The albino hedgehog smiled. "Can you get our egg, please? I wanna hold it."

"Of course." Mephiles nodded and got up once again to take the egg from the cushion. He brought it to Silver and he carefully hold it in his arms.

Mephiles sat down again and helped Silver to sit up a little, adjusting the pillow behind him.

"I can't wait to see how our child looks like." Silver giggled. "Have you thought of a name yet?"

"I haven't, but we should think about it together." The older hedgehog smiled and caress his mate's muzzle. "Of course after the egg hatched."

"Aw that would take too long..." the younger hedgehog pouted.

"Yes, but we wanna make sure that the name fits our little hoglet, right?"

Silver looked away for a moment then he stared at his mate again, "hmm I guess you're right. Let's think of the best name for our child when it hatched." He smiled. "Here, you can put it back." He passed the egg to Mephiles.

The taller hedgehog took the egg and placed it back to the cushion safely.

"Um...Mephiles?"

"Yes?" He turned around.

"Can we cuddle?" Silver asked shyly.

Mephiles had to scream internally at how cute his mate was being. He kept calm and approached the bed.

"Of course, anything you want." He smiled and laid himself next to the smaller hedgehog. He pulled him close but not too hard because he knew Silver wasn't fully healed yet.

Silver wrapped his arms around his mate's body and buried half of his face to the chest fur. He purred at the soft and comforting feeling, so did Mephiles.

"Hey, what if I want more eggs?" Silver said that so suddenly and perked his mate's ears in surprise.

"Slow down, you were in pain with just one earlier."

"Well maybe we can have another one someday." The smaller hedgehog giggled.

Mephiles sighed, he and his brother weren't even guaranteed to stay that long. Would there even be a 'someday'?

He quickly shook the thought off, he should just enjoy the current moment and worry about the future later. At least not when he's with Silver. He smiled under his mask and gently stroke his quills.

"Yeah, maybe."
