Chapter 1

THE REQUEST

In a place far from the city, there was a facility that specializes in keeping an exotic and super rare species that helped improving the medical world. The creature's pure red blood contained just the right minerals and other components that improved the city's healthcare, which was crucial in making the city to be the best spot to get medicine.

This creature was called Cross Hedgehog and there were only two of them that they kept. One was covered in a beautiful royal blue color, small dark blue horns poking out just above the forehead, bright emerald eyes and a long tail. The other one was an albino, fluffier than the blue one, had small beige horns on the forehead, a long tail and sparkling yellow eyes.

The blue Cross Hedgehog was named Sonic while the other was named Silver.

That morning, Sonic woke up in his small room and he yawned. He lazily sat up on his bed and stared at the clock. His room was small, the wall was painted white and the floor was made of wood. The stuff in his room consisted of a bed, a clock, and a bookshelf. Silver's room was the exact same.

The blue Cross Hedgehog exited his room and stretched his arms up, just trying to keep himself awake.

Outside of the bedroom was a large room still with white walls and wooden floors, there was a rather small dining table in the middle of the room with only two chairs for Sonic and his friend. There were small counters fit for their height, a microwave on top of one of the counters, and a fridge. The room also had a water dispenser.

Near the corner of the room was another door leading to the bathroom.

Sonic walked towards the water dispenser and had a cup to drink, his ears perked when he heard the door to Silver's room opened. He turned around and smiled.

"Morning, Silver."

"Morning....ugh, I feel sick all of a sudden." The albino Cross Hedgehog groaned and walked towards the chair near the dining table.

"Want some warm water? I can get it for you."

"Sure, thank you."

Sonic dispensed the warm water on another cup and handed it to his friend. Silver drank the water then continued to groan.

"Still feeling bad?" Sonic asked as he leaned himself on the table.

"Yeah..."

"Don't worry, I'm sure Annie can help you. She always does." Sonic smiled.

Coincidentally, the woman Sonic mentioned entered the door with a tray of food for the kept creatures. She had long black hair tied in a ponytail, she wore a pastel green sweater with long black jeans and black shoes. She was their caretaker in the facility.

"Morning, here are your breakfasts." The human girl smiled and placed the tray on the table.

"Annie, Silver's not feeling well!" Sonic pointed.

"What? Aw, what's wrong?" Annie crouched down and gently stroke the albino's back.

"I don't know, I woke up and I feel a bit nauseous." Silver whined.

Annie got up and went to search around the cabinets above the counter. She looked for the right medicine and picked one that would cure the sick hedgehog. She closed the cabinet, walked over to Silver and handed him the small pill.

"Here, drink this." She offered with another cup of warm water.

Silver took the medicine and drank it down with the water, he stuck his tongue out because of the bitter taste.

"You should feel better in fifteen minutes. Now hurry and eat your meals before they get cold." She pat their heads before walking to the door, "your blood-extraction schedule is today so as always please be prepared."

"Thanks Annie!" Sonic smiled. Annie smiled back before leaving the room.

The blue hedgehog sat down next to his friend, he took the plates off the tray and put them in front of him and Silver. They began to eat their meals as to not wait for it to get cold.

Once they finished eating, Sonic put the plates back to the tray and left it on the counter. Usually Annie would come back to switch the breakfast tray at lunch time.

Silver went back to his room and sat on his bed, but then he noticed that Sonic followed him in.

"What?"

"Hey, I was just thinking about something." Sonic sat next to him, "do you ever think we'll get a mate?"

That made Silver blush and he averted his eyes away, "I don't know, Annie said we're like the only two left in our species."

"What if she's lying?" Sonic smirked.

"Seriously?" Silver narrowed his eyes, "why would you think she's lying? She's the one who found us when we were both lost."

"Yeah but just think about it, the world is huge! Surely there exist another Cross Hedgehog somewhere! And also, I just really want to have a mate." Sonic mumbled the last sentence shyly.

"Hmm..." Silver looked down, "I guess at this age is the time for us to start mating. But again, we're the only two left in the species."

"Nah, I'm sure there are others out there! Don't you wanna mate too?" Sonic giggled.

"Well- yeah...maybe." The other shrugged.

"Let's just ask Annie if she could do something about it! She always finds a way to fulfil our needs and make us happy." The blue hedgehog cheered and made his friend smile.

"Yeah, you're right."

A few hours have passed and their caretaker came back with a bag of equipments to take the creature's blood. She sat down on the floor and called for the two Cross Hedgehogs.

"Alright, let's get this over with. After this I'll deliver your lunch and then you both can  play outside." Annie smiled at them as she took out some of the equipments and some container to store the blood.

"Hey Annie, I have a question." Sonic raised his hand as if he were in a class.

"Hm?"

"Can Silver and I have a mate? We really want to mate."

Annie raised her brows in shock, she put her stuff down and chuckled confusingly.

"Sorry, what? A mate?"

"Yeah, don't you think it's about time we mate now? We're 19." Silver said.

"O-Oh...well..." Annie put her hands together and looked away for a moment before staring at them again, "I would have done that if there were other Cross Hedgehogs around."

Silver and Sonic stared at each other confusingly then stared at Annie again, "what do you mean?" Sonic asked.

"You guys are the last two of your species, so I can't find a mate for you. I'm sorry." She frowned.

"But you said you'd fulfil anything we want in exchange for our blood." Sonic said upsettingly.

"Yes but finding a mate is impossible, sweety. You and Silver are the only ones left." She sighed and hold Sonic's hands. "If we found other Cross Hedgehogs we'd have them here by now."

"So you haven't find any? Not even one?" Silver asked.

"Sadly, no." Annie replied.

"Well then you don't get to have our blood!" Sonic shouted and pulled his hands back, startling his caretaker.

"Sonic-"

"Yeah, didn't you promise us we'd get anything we want?" Silver put his hands on his hips and stared at her angrily.

"Yes, I promised, but a mate is impossible to find!"

"We don't wanna hear it." Sonic covered his ears, "if you don't bring us a mate then you don't get our blood." He demanded then took Silver's hand. "Let's go, Silver!"

Annie let out a small gasp when Sonic took Silver and ran away to hide in his bedroom.

One thing about Cross Hedgehog when they're provoked or become hostile was that they could easily slash their enemy with their sharp quills and claws. Of course Annie didn't want that to happen to her, despite being their caretaker they could still do it when they're annoyed enough.

She got up and went to the door to knock on it. "Sonic, Silver, aren't there anything else that you want?"

"No!" They shouted at the same time.

Annie sighed in defeat, "okay...fine...if I bring you a mate, will you stop being upset at me?"

"Only if you bring us a mate." Silver said from the other side.

"And what if I can't find them?"

"Then we'll break out of here." Sonic said and shocked her.

"O-Okay, I'll do my best. Just please stay here while I'm gone." Annie said before turning back to put away her equipments. That moment, she had no choice but to do what Sonic and Silver wanted.
