Telling The Parents (pt, 1)
When Keefe dropped her off at her house he said goodnight to her and kissed her cheek. Then he glittered away leaving Sophie feeling so fluttery she could float away. When she walked into the main room, Edaline was there looking eager. Then Sophie remembered that she hasn't seen her matchmaking scroll. Sophie immediately took it out of her Cale pocket and said "it's right here! Sit down and we'll look together" then Edaline sat on the couch and asked Sophie "who's your number one?" Sophie wasn't quite ready to tell her about her and Keefe being a thing so she said "I want to leave that for last" then they went up the list from 100 and pointed out everyone they knew. Edaline was surprised she got to 15 just like Sophie was. "I was surprised too. I didn't expect him to be this far up in the list. He's basically my cousin! Anyways his number one was Biana and Biana's was Dex. They're going to the annual ball together" Sophie explained. "Oh that's wonderful! Who are you going with?" Edaline asked. "My number one. Still a surprise" Sophie said back. Then she realized her slip. "So it's either Fitz or Keefe? I'm happy with both of them. They're charming boys" Edaline said, making Sophie feel better. They looked at the rest of the list and she covered her numbers 2 and 1. Edaline was so eager. Sophie slid her hand up to reveal her numbers 1 and 2. As soon as she did Edaline got so excited and said "oh my gosh! I'm so happy for you! Keefe is a great boy!" Sophie smiled at this. She always got the idea that her parents didn't like Keefe. "I remember one time you guys were sending a note to the Black Swan and you were both so excited and he started chasing you down the stairs and you threw sand at each other. Then he chased you back up to my office and helped you clean it up going down almost every fifteen minutes. That's when I thought he was the perfect one for you" Edaline looked dreamy. Sophie remembered that. She also remembered Keefe's speech about how our parents don't decide who we are. We do. And then she remembered what Keefe said before they sent that note. Keefe was being his usual funny self and and said she was checking out the keester. Which she wasn't doing. Then she remembered the funny dance he did and her throwing a pillow at him. All of her memories with him came back. That time he shouted down the hall "it's a date, Foster! Looking forward to it!" Or the time when she realized she liked Keefe. On the back of Silveny. His arms were around her waist. He was so close to her. His face was right next to hers and he was telling her that he wouldn't let anything happen to her. Sophie could have done that all day. Just sit there and remember every time she hung out with Keefe and remember every. Tiny. Detail. Then she was pulled out of her thoughts but Edaline waving her hand in front of her face and saying "Sophie! Hello? Anyone in there? I asked if you wanted some mallowmelt" Sophie said "huh? Oh. Yeah. Sorry. I spaced out again" then she followed Edaline to the counter. Sophie got the courage to ask the question she had been dreading. "Edaline?" Sophie asked cautiously. "Yes, dear?" "Does Grady like Keefe?" Edaline paused for a second and said "of course he does. He kept you safe, didn't he? He also helped you relax, he's good with the animals and he helps Grady with some of our permanent residents like Verdi. Remember that one time when you leapt back home and he was covered in green feathers from helping Grady bathe Verdi?" She laughed and Sophie did too, remembering that day. She saw him there and thought that he looked kinda cute. No Sophie thought. Don't get sucked into your own thoughts again then Sophie was back in reality. "Where is Grady? I want to tell him" Sophie asked. "I think he's in his office. Knock before going in!" Edaline answered. Sophie walked up the stairs and stopped in front of the door to Grady's office. She knocked and heard his upbeat voice say "come in!"
