Epilogue 1: Finding Time
Jungkook
He had nothing to do today.
With all thing's considered, when taking into account how work-driven and tense he was as a person, Jungkook was surprised at how he'd managed even just a couple of days into his break. He had a whole month with nothing but just free time ahead of him, and here he was, sprawled across his bed with his lower limbs dangling loosely off of the end, hoping to meet floor but instead just...existing, hovering between something and something else.
Jungkook didn't exactly have too many friends which whom he could count on to hang out. He had Taehyung, who was the obvious choice, and yet unfortunately that bastard still had work, unlike himself. He had Namjoon, but then again, they were family. Plus the hours of a home-visiting doctor were never consistent. Apart from those two, Jungkook couldn't confidently call upon a third person who fits the role of what he deemed as a 'friend.' Sure, being popular amidst his coworkers meant that he had multiple contacts of which he was sure, those on the other end were cocky enough to call him their friend but, Jungkook had always had higher standards than most. And as his therapist from the past used to say, those standards were probably fuelled by his amassing trust issues, but it wasn't as if he was the only one with those kinds of problems. Everyone had problems trusting, and Jungkook had found in more recent times that he, in particular, had problems trusting someone when it came to the aspects of love.
Love...
He had never before thought to put his mind through the chaos of deciphering such an abstract word, because he always had had something better to do. He had been so busy all of his life, throughout high school, university, and even more so during his adult working life; Jungkook had never had any time to think about something as far-reaching as love. And now, as he swung his legs up-and-down just above his shag carpet and enough so that the soft hairs tickled his toes, he found himself with more time on his hands than ever.
And, he also found himself amidst the beginnings of a relationship.
A real relationship. A relationship with supposed dates, and evening outings, movies, theme parks, commitments, arguments, the idea of actually letting someone in enough to establish each other's personal boundaries, and then realizing that in most relationships neither even have any boundaries...
To that, Jungkook sighed. Deeply.
See, his fear of commitment came from another side of that term. When someone usually brings up the word 'commitment' concerning love, most assume that it has to do with loyalty and trust. When someone fails to commit, most tend to assume the absolute worse, such as cheating or...well, cheating. For Jungkook, he struggled with loyalty and trust, but not in how most would presume. Instead, he struggled with the smaller, less extreme aspects of commitments. He didn't know if texting the other person first thing in the morning was too clingy, or if replying straight away would scare off his partner. He didn't know if right at that very second, he should be with his partner or not, because he still wasn't sure about where they both stood in a relationship. He didn't know when was too often or not to plan dates accordingly, because he had never actually been on a date before, and the last thing that he wanted was to fuck things up before the ball even got rolling.
He just didn't know how to simply be, in a relationship. And for someone like him, who had mastered such a degree of control in every other aspects of his life, this was the most daunting thing that he had ever faced.
Well...actually. He had faced worse.
"Jungkook~?"
He smiled. He had definitely faced worse.
Springing up from his lamented position, Jungkook paced over to his bedroom door and hastily swung it open. Heart thudding, his head felt the dizzy onset of what could either be his nerves or just from sitting up too quickly. Either way, it didn't help him as a small figure crashed into him, and wrapped his arms around Jungkook's midriff.
"Heeeey!"
Looking down at the pink head of hair, Jungkook stumbled back a few steps to regain their balance, before leaning down to coil his arms around his partner's shoulders. Jungkook rarely felt at ease in the world, what with being a product manager at such a prestigious company, but with Jimin in his arms or with himself in Jimin's arms, Jungkook had found a place in the world that just felt right.
With a huge grin across his lips, Jungkook buried his face into Jimin's neck, another place which he found to feel just as right as the last. "Hey."
He felt some shuffling against his chest, and when he looked down he found his lover gazing up at him with a grin to match his own, and with a shining sparkle in his eyes. "I let myself in."
Jungkook scoffed, his smile unmoving. "I can see that."
"I just...you're sure you don't mind me keeping your spare key?" Jimin mumbled, his grip on Jungkook's shirt tight and also unmoving.
"I don't mind, no. As long as you don't lose it, and keep it safe."
"You think I'd lose it that easily, do you?" Jimin laughed, before stepping back from the younger and reaching into his back pocket to retrieve his set of keys.
Eyeing the keyring closer, Jungkook found to no surprise his door key slotted amidst a tumble of other keys and keychains, and he found himself breathing out a small laugh under his breath. "Ah. I see now."
"'Ah,' you underestimated me," the older mimicked, before stepping around Jungkook and taking a seat at the end of his bed. "I'll have you know I have a whole two years worth of life experience ahead of you! I wouldn't be that careless."
"I beg to differ, Mr. Park," Jungkook joked, as he walked over to sit beside Jimin before leaning over and pressing his forehead against the older. "You're late, like always. Didn't we agree 10:30?"
With a sheepish lowering of his head, Jimin looked away as a faint blush crept up his face. "Maybe..."
"And, what time is it now?"
"...Possibly, between the realms of 11:00-11:10."
Jungkook let out another soft laugh, his breath tousling both his and Jimin's bangs. "And you have the gall to lecture me about carelessness."
A small whine, which sounded along the lines of ruefulness, escaped Jimin's throat as he shimmied his head into Jungkook's, tangling their hair so that it wove messily together, black and pink. "I can lecture you all I want, I'm still older. And I'm presuming you called me Mr. Park as a joke, right?"
Jungkook smiled again, before pressing a tender kiss onto the tip of Jimin's nose. "I did...Jimin."
So far, although they had technically only been dating a few days, Jungkook already knew, somewhat, where Jimin stood in their relationship. Both were very happy with Jungkook being in charge, or at least when concerning social matters such as being the one to pay or being the 'man' in their relationship. That phrase didn't exactly imply well onto their relationship though, for obvious reasons. But as for smaller, what Jungkook deemed as trivial matters such as having the last word in an argument, or deciding what to have for dinner, Jungkook always found himself giving in to the older man. Maybe, because of how long it took for them to get to where they were now, Jungkook didn't care about those things which in the grand scheme of things, didn't matter.
What mattered to him, and this he found completely astounding, was just seeing his partner smile. For so long, Jungkook had put his ego before everything else, such as both Jimin's and his feelings, and he knew that Jimin had done the same. To lie for so long, and to disregard what was really important had hurt them both in more ways and than one, Jungkook knew this now.
Which is why he didn't mind giving everything, or as much as possible to Jimin, because if he had the resources, he'd do it all to keep this angel happy. He'd told him before, that his smile was what he loved best about him, and it meant more than just how beautiful he looked when he did it. It meant to Jungkook, that at that moment together, his smile told him how happy he was being there with the younger, and for someone who had embraced the calls of loneliness for too long, this meant a lot.
A fuck tonne.
Sighing, Jimin pulled away from Jungkook before resting his cheek against the taller's shoulder. "What have you been up to this morning?"
Shrugging, but being careful enough to not knock the older from his shoulder, Jungkook exhaled a deep, breath of boredom. "I've realized only recently how completely lacking my social life is. And my personal life."
"What do you mean?"
Pushing his lips to the sides with decisive regards, Jungkook shrugged again. "I work 5 days a week, usually. And on the weekends I spend my time replying to emails, scheduling meetings, organizing sub-groups within current projects, and maybe going out occasionally to have some...fun." He slowed down that last part upon realizing what he was about to say. "But, I mean, I haven't done that in a while-"
"-and you won't be doing it ever again, right?" Jimin demanded, his eyes widening, threatening Jungkook to say anything other than what he probably should say.
Jungkook, in response, exhaled once again, this time a breath of relief. "Yeah. Never again." Reaching over, he pulled Jimin's head further into his own body, inhaling his sweet smell and rubbing his lower back with his palms. "Unless, you break my heart?"
Scoffing, Jimin buried his head into Jungkook's chest. "You've already broken mine more times than I can count!"
"The same goes for me."
"When have I ever broken your heart, Mr. Heartbreaker?" Jimin hummed, lifting his head and cocking it to the side, and despite his best efforts to hold one back, a smile breaking out across those scrumptious lips of his.
Sitting back into the quilts and leaning back onto his hands, Jungkook looked up at the ceiling in fake ponders. "Let me think...I'd say you broke it the first time we met."
"As if! We were just pissed off at each other, it doesn't count!"
"Okay, it felt like it had broken. One could argue that one's sexuality comes from the heart, and you quite literally broke mine into two," Jungkook laughed, his eyes trailing after the older who had leaned onto his side and propped his head up with his hand.
"That still doesn't count," Jimin chuckled, rolling his eyes before prompting the younger to carry on.
Sighing, Jungkook looked back up at the ceiling. "Alright, fine. There was that time when I saw you for the first time with Taemin. I wasn't exactly heartbroken, but I remember feeling disappointed as hell. And pissed off."
"Are we counting times when we've just felt jealous, then? Because I'll allow it this time, for the sake of getting to know this side of you," Jimin giggled.
"Then I guess so. After that, there was the elevator incident. My ego is still bruised from that." Jimin let out a loud 'Hah!' before letting Jungkook continue. "And the time when I overheard you talking about how you were still seeing Taemin, at the photo shoot with Lisa-"
"So that's what you were so mad about!" Jimin exclaimed, as he leaped up from his position and leaned over towards Jungkook on his hands and knees. "I thought you meant you'd been rejected work-wise! So, when you said that you had been rejected-!"
"-I was being overdramatic, yes," Jungkook mumbled. Jimin giggled once more, before placing a gentle peck on Jungkook's cheek, a small enough gesture to keep him going through even more past embarrassing feelings. "Sometimes I felt jealous whenever you hung around that other guy. The one with the golden frames, and black hair."
"You mean Yoongi-Hyung? We're just friends," the older confirmed. "We hang out sometimes at some cafes, and sometimes I go over to his so we can go over each other's designs, but it's always just been platonic."
"I know, but you're too...'huggy' with everyone. I don't like it."
With a hearty laugh, Jimin sprung onto Jungkook with open arms, pushing the younger quite violently into the quilts. "I'm just like that with everyone! I always have been!"
Groaning, Jungkook pulled the older on top of him and squeezed his smaller body against his own, pushing his face as far as it would go into Jimin's chest. "Is this up for compromise? Or is this another thing that I'll have to deal with?"
"I'm afraid," Jimin started, his small hand gently raking through Jungkook's hair, before he planted a kiss on top of his head, "that this is something that you'll have to deal with. You trust me, right?"
Jungkook nodded.
Jimin chuckled, his chest bouncing against Jungkook's cheek. "Besides, I was wayyyy into you long before I met Yoongi anyway."
The younger's head zipped up, and he peered into Jimin's crescent-eyed smile. "Seriously? But that was ages ago?"
Nodding, Jimin let out a rather dispirited sigh as he continued to pet Jungkook's head. He had grown quite accustomed to Jimin's habit of giving him head rubs, or head pats whenever the occasion was right. Which usually meant, just whenever Jungkook was at eye-level or lower than the older. Jungkook was sure that this habit came subconsciously to Jimin, but he had never minded. He liked it, a lot.
"I knew I liked you after our third meeting, but I was just denying it at that point. You had me from the start, unfortunately."
"Are you sure? We're both aware of how much of a dick I was."
Jimin nodded. "Oh yeah, I know. You were a major asshat," the older reprimanded, and Jungkook in reply just tightened his hold on his lover even more. "It's not even as if I go for assholes in the first place. I mean, yeah, they're hot in black and everything, but I never went for them, you know?"
"So, what was different about me?"
"That's the thing, I don't know," Jimin pondered. Jungkook found his eyes closing the more Jimin raked his fingers through his hair. "It was probably because we saw each other nearly every day, and because you were so unattainable I just let myself dream about it."
Shaking his head free from the older's fingers, he hoisted Jimin up from where he was sitting quite unexpectantly and onto his lap. Then he reached up, cupping Jimin's face, and pushed away his bangs with the tips of his fingers. "Do you still dream about it?"
Jimin shook his head, before nudging his face into one of Jungkook's palms. His eyes fluttered closed, his long lashes sweeping against the pink's of his cheeks, and Jungkook felt it in his heart the amount of 'like' that he had for this man. "I mean, I dream about other stuff, but what I dreamt about before is right in front of me now."
Jungkook's lips turned upwards into a smirk, and he pulled Jimin down before meeting him in the middle with a kiss. Soft, sticky, and succulent. Jungkook couldn't get enough of the older's lips, no matter how much he swept his tongue against Jimin's, or how much he sucked down on the older's bottom lip. He had enough experience to know when to push and pull his lover in and out of the realm of lust, and he wanted so badly to just keep pushing.
But, against all odds, Jungkook found the will to break off the kiss, and to instead bury his face into Jimin's chest once again. He had enough self-control to wait. He had waited this long, and he didn't mind waiting longer, so long as Jimin was the one to instigate that, and so long as the other was happy.
Because, if Jimin was happy, then Jungkook found himself being happy too, as ridiculous as that sounded.
"So, what's on the agenda today?"
Jungkook smiled. "Whatever you want."
hello there! I know it's been yonks since I last updated on here, and im sorry about that! i've been working on a visual novel for a while, which takes up most of my inspiration to write. ive recently looked back on this story, and realised from beginning to end just how much i've improved in writing. plus, I really missed this couple, and wanted to give you some insight into how they were doing :)
I'm also aware that i initially advertised this book as having smut in it, however after writing this and getting to know the versions of these characters, taking into account their rocky journey, i think it's better to leave them where they are. I'm happy with this story, and happy that they're happy.
ill see you around.
