12. A Normal Friday Morning

Jimin

As he started work the next morning, he rubbed the bridge of his nose whilst holding back a yawn. What a night. He hadn't expected his date to keep him up as long as he had, but still...he had had a good time with his date. Lee Taemin.
Miss Seo had set himself and Taemin up on a date in a downtown bar. Before agreeing to it, Jimin had actually been about to withdraw from the whole 'blind-dating' scene, because what had happened with Jungkook had definitely left a deep impression. He had mixed feelings toward his boss. His boss, who was a jerk through and through, and yet...when the older had heard Jungkook say that he had a date, it had stunned Jimin more than he could have imagined.

And it hurt.

So, perhaps he had agreed to that final blind date as a way to forget about Jungkook, who stirred his mind in more ways than one. And...he had actually had a pretty great time. Taemin was a sweet guy, funny at times, and a proper gentleman. Since they were at a bar, both had drunk, and Jimin had quickly found out that his date was a lightweight, and then one thing had led to another...etc.

That morning, Lee Taemin took the train home, and left Jimin his number.

Sighing, the pink-haired man scanned his ID before entering the building, and he stared down at the contact in his phone. Should he message him? Call him? There was no doubt that there was potential to grow, a small connection between them.
And it wasn't like Jungkook would change his mind, along with his sexuality.

"Ugh, stop thinking about that bastard..." he mumbled to himself. Jungkook was an asshole. He'd better keep reminding himself of that, to keep his feelings in check.

"Who's a bastard?"

"H-huh?" Jimin turned to his left, and found a taller man with a bright smile leaning over his shoulder.

"I couldn't help but hear you talking to yourself," the man chuckled. "I'm Taehyung, by the way. Kim Taehyung."

Taehyung held out his hand to Jimin, who bowed and shook his hand. "Park Jimin..."

"Soooo?" Taehyung asked curiously.

"J-just...my boss," Jimin confessed.

"Haha, I see."

Who was this man? "Do you work here?" Jimin asked.

"Yeah, I'm in the sales department on the second floor. You're Jungkook's project designer...right?"

"I-I'm not his per say but, I am a project designer," Jimin shyly replied, realising now that he has confirmed the bastard boss he had referred to earlier on. Taehyung seemed friendly, with a boxy-smile and gentle eyes, so maybe his secret was safe. "Are you close with Jungkook?"

Taehyung stuck his hands in his pockets, and gestured for Jimin to follow him toward the elevator. "We went to university together. I studied accounting and he went into business."

"Were you roommates?"

"Oh no, we met at a local bar close to the campus. We were both really drunk, and he had been chatting up this girl for the entire night who I liked at the time and we got into a fight."

They both stopped at the elevator. "Like a...fist, fight?"

"Yep, fist to fist. So you can imagine that we were both banned from that bar. You know, I remember both of us braced on the sidewalk curb by the road, drunk as hell and battered up waiting for a taxi to pass by," Taehyung laughed, "and even though we hated each other we were forced to share a taxi because neither of us had enough cash alone. Man...good times."

"Wait, so...how did you two become friends?"

"We didn't. I still hate him."

"J-Jungkook!"

A low, deep voice had interrupted the two of them, and Jimin by reflex lept back when he had heard that voice from behind him. Jungkook, who was still dressed immaculately in a suit and tie, scorned his friend who only shrugged his shoulders without a care in the world. "Why are you so freely telling people your lifestory when clearly no one cares?"

Taehyung rolled his eyes as the elevator doors opened. "Jimin was totally into it. Right?"

Pursing his lips, Jimin slowly nodded. "I was interested, yes. Since you never tell me anything yourself."

He heard Jungkook scoff to himself. "I'm not entitled to tell you anything, Mr Park."

"Hmph."

"So, do you two know each other or something?" Jungkook asked.

"Sorry but, I'm not entitled to tell you anything, Mr Jeon," Jimin replied passive aggressively as he sauntered by the younger and into the elevator.

Then he heard a sigh. "Fine. Tae, do you two know each other or something."

"Well, haha, would you...look at that I forgot my briefcase!"

"Yah, wait-"

The elevator doors closed, and both Jimin and Jungkook stood dumbstruck as the bubbly salesman waved them off before turning and heading for the stairs. Did he just...really do that?
He did! He purposely left him alone with mister miserable and grumpy to deal with alone on a friday morning.

It was fine. He could wait out a few floors.

Glancing to his right, he eyed the taller man who stood with a callous expression across his face. Those brows, Jimin swore, would be forever furrowed. And yet that angry distant look was still sexy as hell.
Ugh, what was he thinking? Maybe he was still slightly hungover.

Clearing his throat, Jimin tried to break the silence between them. "So...how did the date go?"

"I thought we were playing the 'you're not entitled to know anything' game."

"Jesus, how childish are you?"

"You started it."

"Clearly, very much so," Jimin sighed. "Me and Taehyung met this morning, by chance. There, you have it now."

"Right."

"Soooo...?"

"So what?"

"Are you gonna tell me about how it went?"

"Nope."

"That's just mean, I stopped playing that game."

Then, Jimin watched as the corners of Jungkook's mouth curved upward into a faint smile. "Who said I stopped either?"

His heart started to speed up, and Jimin tried to ignore the minimal space between the two of them as the elevator doors opened and closed, and as other people came on and off of it. "Fair point, but we're both adults here or am I wrong?"

"You're wrong, clearly only one of us qualifies as an adult. I'm talking about the taller one of us," Jungkook joked.

"Yah, I may be smaller but I'm still older. Now spill."

Sighing, the younger turned to face Jimin with a deadbeat look in his eye. "It was a waste of time. As were the other dates I went on."

Did that include the date Jungkook had had with him? "So were mine..."

Jungkook paused momentarily. "Did you do anything last night, Mr Park?"

"Hm? Oh, coincidentally I also went on a date, although it was really short notice."

Another pause. "Did it go well?"

Jimin sighed. "Yeah, it did. He...Taemin was nice."

"Is that all?"

"What do you mean?"

The younger spoke blankly, and frankly. "I'm sure you two got to know each other very well."

Jimin frowned. "What are you insinuating?"

"All I'm saying is that there must be more to say about him if you two got to know each other."

"Well yeah, there is but why would you want to know anyway?"

"I just happened to see you two last night, as my own date came to an end."

Jimin stopped breathing. "Excuse me?" How much had he seen?

"Coincidentally, the bar I was at was only across the street from where you and your date had been. I'm sure you and 'Taemin' had a lovely time together."

"E...excuse me?!"

"I'm only saying what I saw-"

Slap.

Before he knew it, Jimin had risen his hand, and brought it quickly across Jungkook's cheek. He hadn't realized what had happened, until he saw the stunned and shocked look on Jungkook's face, and on the other faces on the elevator.
But he didn't regret it. In fact, he felt maybe even rejuvenated, as he embraced the rush of adrenaline which came with...hitting your boss.

Turning back to the still very much shocked younger man, Jimin took a deep breath in as the elevator doors opened. "You should think twice before you open your mouth Mr Jeon. Words hurt more than you think," Jimin mumbled under his breath as he stepped off the elevator. "And just so you know, nothing happened between us. He slept on the couch."

Then, the elevator doors closed.

He let out a breath. If that wouldn't fire him, then God probably existed. He wasn't even on the right floor. But right now that didn't worry him in the slightest. He just hit his boss. He hit Jungkook. Jeon Jungkook. Infamous womaniser, and dickhead.

He was in for a shit storm, that was for sure.
