Chapter 7: The Bitch Is In
I wonder what she would do if her face got accidentally rearranged.
Sakura, Karin and Ino stood tall and posh, whispering and laughing with each other like those false actresses that over act there flashy poses. Just like those actresses they left nothing to the imagination in the way of clothing either.
Sakura strutted around, mid rift clear of any clothing exposing her golden belly button ring. She clearly wasn’t wearing any form of a bra as she left the scrap of white and black stripped material wrap around her upper torso bending into her cleavage as she moves. Her back-side may as well been exposed to the entirety of the carnival, akin to her crop top she wore a black mini skirt that was possibly two sizes too short her. Taking a stab in the dark, she probably thought it would show off her non-existent curves. For that I only have one word. Slut.
Ino and Karin looked much the same in the way of clothing. Ino wore a slightly longer dark purple top, it still exposed pas her belly button but covered more than Sakura’s shirt. Her black mini shirt was light leather. Flowy and short. The bottom was trimmed with floral cut-outs only displaying more skin. Karin’s flimsy top was a midnight blue. Her outfit was mc the same as Ino’s, going for that much disgusted twins look. I scowled at their immediate lack of clothing. If that’s what they wear to a town festival, what do they wear to the beach?
On second thought, don’t answer that.
I noticed Hinata’s sudden perturbed expression as she completely comprehended who the bitchy high pitch laughter came from. “Ignore her,” I spoke encouragingly. She gave a slight nod in my direction but she still wore her anxious frown on her lips. I needed to find a way to distract her from Sakura, she can’t continue letting her ruin her live.
‘What could I do?’ I asked myself as I took a quick look around trying to pull some type of idea from the walls themselves. Think Sam. “Hey, you said you loved playing the basket-ball hoops. Fancy a game?”
“Do you think they would still have it?” Hinata asked, eye gleaming with excitement.
“Yeah, why not?” I smiled, maybe a game or two will help her forget she saw Sakura and her gossiping group of bimbos she calls friends.
The cacophony of laughter continued as Hinata and I found our way out of their sight range. I don’t know what boggles me more; the fact Sakura is such a twit or the fact that she has two others that follow closely in her footsteps. Over my many experiences of high school I’ve begun to see social society like one big game. The popularity never comes from a person’s inner qualities but their money and manipulation skills. It was sad really, not one person in the entirety of the high school even tries to unbalance this stupidity of status. It’s their status quo, and they just don’t care to unbalance it out of pure languidly.
Hinata’s eyes glittered as they landed their sights on a stall with a large red and orange sign saying ‘Hoops’. Well at least she looks like she has forgotten previous trivialities. I followed slowly in her footsteps as she glided gracefully over to the games stands. There weren’t too many people around the games stalls. I mean it was crowded but there were almost twice the amount of people around the rides. I guess it must be such a popular thing to do now days. I guess they can be quite costly.
I slowed down as I reached the line-free basket-ball hoops game. A middle aged man stood languidly holding an orange basket-ball. His blue eyes reflected his sense of ennui but there was a clear smile plastered on his lips and chocolate hair draped a little over his ears. As he noticed Hinata and I approaching his smile grew and his eyes brightened up a little.
“Can I interest you lovely ladies in a game?” He asked professionally.
“Yes p-please.” An excited yet timid voice spoke next to me.
I smiled giggling light heartedly, “For two please.” I stated placing two fingers up supporting my statement. I pulled out two golden coins paying for the game. I noted how Hinata raised her eyebrow and she starred as the man took the coins.
“I can pay.” She declared.
“My treat,” I confirmed picking up one of the 6 basket-balls we each received. Hinata soon followed in suite after saying a small ‘Thank you’. I only nodded in reply before lining up to take my first shot. The target was only roughly two metres away and it was definitely much shorter than a normal hoop, only an inch taller than I.
Bending my knees I let the ball roll off my fingers with a flick of the wrist and a spring of the knees. I watch silently as the orange highlight spun mid-air before falling directly into the basket-ball hoop’s net.
‘Pitter Patter, Pitter Patter’ a small clap sounded lightly next to me. “That was awesome.” I heard Hinata cheer as I watched the ball fall from the grip of the ring and roll back towards me. She picked up a ball and I smiled encouragingly. “My Turn”, she said just loud enough for me to hear.
I watched silently out of the corner of my eye as she pulled the ball in towards her chest, bending her arms outwards akin to a pair of wings. She then bent her knees slightly before flinging the ball up and out of her hands towards her hoop. I bit my lip as I saw the ball hit the backboard before nicking the ring and falling to the ground. Hinata frowned as she eyed the ball. Picking up the next ball I watched as she readied herself in the same way as before and stared intently at the hoop, determine to get the next shot in.
“Try putting the ball above you head slightly. It allows for better accuracy.” I explained turning to my hoop and taking my next shot. She stared at me for a couple of seconds before nodding her head and setting herself up for the next shot.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For the next 10 minutes Hinata and I practised shooting baskets. In all honestly I don’t think either of us cared about winning against each other, we were just shooting for our own pleasure. I tried to give advice to Hinata where I could but she was getting better and better of her own accord. I don’t think that she properly acknowledged her improvement but the disappointed frown removed itself from her immediate facial expression. I smiled gently to myself as I watched her stare intently at the red ring in front of her, determination seeping out of every pore of her body. Throwing my last shot I watched her out of the corner of my eye not paying much attention as my ball fell through the hoop. I noticed as Hinata bent her knees readying herself to take the shot.
“Look!” I heard someone gasp with a squeaky voice. Thinking nothing of it I stood awaiting Hinata’s shot, mentally cheering for her. Hinata finally threw the ball, flicking her wrist. I watched in anticipation as the ball hit the back board before knocking against the ring and falling to the floor. She almost had it.
“Better luck next time.” The stall manager spoke with fake encouragement. “Prize for our winner!” He smiled suggestively as he pointed towards the array of fluffy toys.
“You know what, I’m not much of a fluffy toy person. Hinata which one do you want?” I asked trying hard to ignore the looks I was getting from the stall manager. Hinata’s disappointed gaze was soon replaced with a smile of glee as she choose from the fluffy array of stuffed animals.
“Would you look at that.” Another voice squeaked mockingly. Both Hinata’s and my bodies stiffened hearing the voice.
“Just what are you doing here?” The last voice spat in disgust. It was then that I finally realised who was screeching behind us. I took a moment t sigh before I turned around to the three Barbie dolls.
They all had their arm crossed over their chests and the most unappealing mischievous smirks spread across their faces. I raised my eye brow in annoyance as Sakura’s gaze landed on mine.
“I asked you a question.” She snapped her unthreatening glare pathetically trying to pierce me.
“W-we were j-just…..” Hinata stammered out losing all her confidence once again. Sakura now raised her eye brow in what seemed like glee.
“You were j-just what?” Sakura mockingly spoke, authority coursing through every word and movement she made.
“We are here for the same reason you are.” I stepped in. Sakura’s glare returned to me but I countered it with my own fiery glare. I won’t let her kick me down and I won’t stand for her kicking down Hinata. Sakura sneered holding her head high acting as if she were some kind of deity, I don’t think she realised how big it made her nose look though.
“Hinata knows very well that she is not welcome.”
“Last time I checked this was a town festival.” I said putting emphasis on the word town, maybe then it would get through her think skull.
“She knows very well why!” I could tell she was losing her temper with me, but you know what I don’t give a shit.
“Look I don’t know what happened, actually it was probably all your fault,” I stated accusingly “but I won’t let you kick her around like this.”
“And what are you going to do about it?” Sakura asked a confident smirk appearing on her lips. I thought about it for a second, I can’t make a scene by starting a fight it will only get us in trouble. Sakura raised here eye brow as if mocking me for my lack of speech.
“I’ll play you,” I stated saying the first thing that came to mind. “If I win then you leave us alone, and if you win then Hinata and I will leave.” I finished placing my hand on my hip for a stronger stance.
Sakura made a small ‘Tsk’ sound as she ground her teeth together. “I think we got off on the wrong foot.” She began to reason. “I’ll cut you a deal, you can join my group if you stop being friends with her.” She pointed at Hinata with a look of disgust plastered upon her face. “I’ll even pay you for it.”
“What’s wrong Sakura are you too scared to play me? Worried you’ll lose in front of your ‘friends’?” I asked a mocking smile spread across my facial features.
It was then that I noticed the small crowd of people who had stopped to watch the apparent bitch fight. Some people just can’t mind their own business. I took a quick glance around the crowd before my eyes locked with a pair of amused onyx eyes.
It’s amazing how he just doesn’t care about his own girlfriend. What a prick.
“So are you in?” I finally asked “Or are you out?”
There was a moment of silence before Sakura’s pulled her cheeks up into a vehement of a smile, “Fine.”
I turned back to the stall manager with a new found smile on my face. Placing the money on the desk, “Another round please.” He nodded before smiling at me. I could tell his eyes were racking over my body but I still ignored it within the itch of my fist.
Sakura slammed her money down on the desk making the stall manager jump. That vehement smile still plastered on her face. “Right let’s get this over with.”
"Not so fast I haven't told you the rules yet." I spoke confidently.
"You shoot a ball into a hoop, first to 50 points wins. There are no rules." Sakura said rolling her eyes.
"But that's too easy." I stated matter-of-factly.
"And what do you presume? We turn around?" Each word dripped with sarcasm.
"If that's what you want to do, but I was thinking more along the lines of stepping back every time you get a score. However, I don't mind turning around."
"Fine! Let's just start. The sooner we do the closer I get to winning." She growled in anger yet it was somehow laced in confidence.
"Best out of eight. Let's start."
We both picked up our first ball and readied ourselves to win. Bending my knees I flicked my wrist releasing the ball to spin in the air before landing cleanly through the hoop. I smirked to myself before taking a step back and watching Sakura's ball also go through the hoop. It wasn't clean but she was aiming for the back board on purpose.
Holding her head high she also took a step back. "Start the engine, it's time to go home." Sakura sneered at me under her breath so that I was the only one that would hear. Her gaze heard presence finally but I didn't care too much for the 'bitch is in' attitude.
"I know you blind so I'll let you in on a something, my ball went in too." I whispered back in equal measure. "Hinata could you please be my ball passer." I smiled at Hinata. She nodded before walking over next to ball pit and throwing me a ball.
Sakura let out a frustrated huff before snapping at one of her posy. "Ino get me a ball!" I sighed watching the blonde stammer her way over to the ball pit before tossing the ball over to Sakura hopelessly.
Rolling my eyes we continued to shoot and I noticed Sakura's facial expressions becoming more and more enraged as I continued to score. She was holding her own until her sixth shot.
"Ino! Ball!" She screeched. Receiving the next ball she set herself up for her next shot. Bending her knees she followed her usual tactics with aiming for the top corner of the backboard.
Unfortunately, this time her throw was laced in anger and she threw the ball a little too hard. The orange basket ball bounced off the backboard before nicking the ring and falling to the ground. Sakura growled in frustration, I left her to have her mini tantrum while I too my step back now in the lead.
Sakura took a big breath of air before relaxing and plastering a smile on her face. I raised an eyebrow wondering what she was planning now. Trying to ignore it I caught the ball Hinata threw to me. Sakura did the same but she didn’t set up to take a shot. Maybe she was being more careful?
I shook my head trying to focus on my next shot. There was a moment of silence before a mocking voice of the bitch in front of me sounded.
“So I heard your mum left because she was a skank.” I tried to discount Sakura’s mocking voice. Gripping the ball with a little too much force I set myself up for the next shot. “Such a shame”
Grinding my teeth together I threw the ball high into the air. The ball skimmed around the outside of the ring almost teasingly before falling to the ground. Dam it! She got to me.
Smiling Sakura took a step so that she was now in line with me. I let out a sigh before catching my last ball. I had to keep my cool, I don’t know how she found out about my mother but I can’t let that get to me now. Bouncing the ball a couple of times I allowed all trivialities to vacate my thoughts.
You can do this Sam.
Tying now, both Sakura and I stood our ground for our last shot. We were now about one and a half metres away from the ring. It wasn’t a far distance, not at all. We both readied ourselves, bending our knees simultaneously. 3…2…1… Shoot.
Both orange spheres flew through the air. They made a compacted ‘Bang’ as the both hit the backboard. One ball split itself through the netting of the hoop while the second rolled off the edge missing the final score.
“Hinata time to go” I beckoned her. As I begun to make my way through the crowd of people that had gathered. I slowed my pace to let her catch up to me.
“I can’t believe you just did that!” Hinata exclaimed happily. I merely smiled at her before hearing a loud angry cacophony of sound coming from the basketball hoops.
“Woah, she’s a really sore loser.” I commented eyes wide as we continued to walk away.
“She sure is.” Came the reply, but it didn’t come from Hinata. Oh no, of course it didn’t. Instead it came from the large shadow in the corner that had been watching the ‘Bitch off’ – as I like to call it – the entire time. I let a small groan roll off my tongue as I stopped and eyed the tall raven to my right.
“S-Sasuke?” Hinata asked once again tripping over her words.
“What are you following us?” I snapped darkly. Sasuke only lifted his eye brow mockingly, his usual smirk plastered to his face. I find myself suddenly wishing the wind would change so that he would find himself stuck like that.
“I’m impressed.” He finally commented crossing his arms over his chest. My eyes seemed to dart uncontrollably to his rippling muscles before they made their way back to his widening smirk. Arse.
“What shooting a couple of hoops? You’re easily impressed then.” I spat rolling my eyes before continuing my stride forward.
“The hoops weren’t what impressed me. Actually they could use some work.” Sasuke retorted teasingly. “You standing up to Sakura is what impresses me.”
“Well apparently it doesn’t happen too often.” I said noting Sakura’s earlier blow up.
“Hn” Sasuke simply spoke before beginning to walk away himself. “See you around.”
I watched him walked away glaring slightly as his retreating figure. Clicking my tongue once, I turned back to Hinata before whispering something more to myself.
“I hope not.”
