Chapter 3
Chapter Three
The Ball
The day of the ball came and I wore a mask of course that was designed by Hange to wear at the event, I was beginning to feel nervous at how people would react to seeing soldiers having a good time at the event. I guess it finally hit me that maybe I should've been on the lookout and making sure that nothing went wrong at the event.
"Oh, would you stop it already? You've been sweating like crazy since we got here, Historia wouldn't like to see you like this! Have fun! Maybe you'll meet the love of your life tonight?" Hange wiggled her eyebrows at me as I scoffed at her remarks.
I want to discover myself at this dance and if somehow I meet a guy who is more than decent maybe I'll consider.
"Whatever, let's get in I want to test my dance skills after practicing." I rolled my eyes and open the big doors to reveal big bright lights shining in the room and lots of talking with music playing.
"Woah, they have a lot of people playing instruments." Hange gasped.
"It's so... Pretty." I beamed as I walked in with more confidence.
Everyone was smiling and having a good time and they all wore masks but their eyes and smiles still screamed at us as we walked by.
"Hange, I could get used to this." I looked at her but she already ran off without me.
Hange?
Where the hell did she go? Oh no! I cannot be here all alone I'm literally socially awkward.
HANGE!
I sighed as I walked past some of the people on the dance floor and to my surprise everyone was dancing accordingly to what I was taught, I could get used to it. I saw men and women paired with each other as they danced away in happiness, it was a cute moment I haven't seen in a long time. Usually citizens are arguing with each other on what they could afford or some stupid shit they created.
But this entire room was filled with happiness and hope.
I'm really proud of Historia for planning this out and making this happen, it gave people a distraction.
I know it definitely gave me a distraction.
"Ah!" I heard a small yelp and I quickly turned to the front of me as I saw a man wince in pain from what it appeared to be my foot stepping on his foot.
"I'm so sorry!" I gasped with my hands covering my mouth.
"Attention." Historia called out to the crowd. "A new song brought to you by this lovely team is starting and I want everyone on the dance floor to dance, if you choose not to dance then you shouldn't be on the dance floor! I don't want people getting hurt from standing in one place, let's make this a ball you won't forget!"
I turn from Historia back to the man standing in front of me, he had a mask on but his eyes were beautiful. I feel so bad for not watching my step and stepping on him, I hope I don't get yelled at because that would crush my mood.
"I'm really sorry, I should've been watching where I was going-" The guy place his hand out and motioned for me to stop talking.
"I've heard enough, just have fun tonight." He replied as he was about to walk away.
"But!" I began as I found myself following him. "Please let me get some ice for it or help you out!"
"Oi, You stepped on my foot not cut it off." He scoffed before turning to me. "I'll live, now go dance with your partner."
I heard the music begin and almost everyone covered the dance floor, lucky me just had to be deep in it.
"Sir, please!" I grab his left hand and turn him to me as I clasp his right hand with mines.
We are now standing in front of each other with hands intertwined, the music was already playing and I didn't know how to get off the dance floor without looking awkward.
This was awkward enough already, I just wanted to die. If only Hange didn't leave me to die to the wolves I probably would've enjoyed this night even more.
"Just dance with me please," I begged and the guy looked at me with his eyes piercing through my skin like daggers.
"I really need to get back-" He began.
"No, you are staying with me until the end of the song." I interrupted.
I began to move my feet and dragged him along with me as the other people around us began to move, I knew all the moves and somehow this guy didn't. How did he come to a ball with no dance knowledge?
"Do you even know who I am?" He scoffed as he was dancing quite like a robot from the lack of skill.
"No idea, let's keep it that way," I try to move to the beat but he wasn't dancing as good as me. "Dance better."
"I didn't come here to dance, I have no idea how to!" He argued.
"You can leave after this song, just follow my lead." I looked at him with a pleading look. "Please?"
I hope people weren't staring at us because if he rejected me right now I will most definitely cry.
"Fine, just shut up." He sighed with an eye roll before following my steps and getting into the rhythm of the music.
He placed his hand onto my waist and held it firmly as he leaned in closer to me so that we didn't look like dancing stiff trees, it made my heart pound deeper and deeper.
We took long strides to the other side of the dance floor and he didn't make one mistake, so he knew how to dance? He spun me around a couple of times and each time I felt butterflies erupt in my stomach, I didn't know it was possible to even feel this way but I felt like I wanted to attach myself to the feeling. He made me feel special.
The song began to pick up again and he spun me around and took long strides to the other side of the room. And when the song went a bit slower he pulled me closer and let me fall in his arms as he dipped his head lower with me. I just stared in his eyes that captivated me, he didn't break eye contact with me at all. I felt like I was dreaming and at the end of the song he took a few steps back bowed and finally walked away.
I was stunned.
Completely stunned.
