Author's POV

In the large fields of the police academy, a sense of anticipation hung in the air as a diverse group of recruits gathered for their final day of training. The field echoed with the shuffling of feet and the occasional nervous laughter as the recruits exchanged glances, sizing up their fellow trainees. The unmistakable scent of sweat mixed with the acrid tang of anticipation, creating an atmosphere charged with both excitement and apprehension.

At the front of the room, a stern-faced instructor stood, surveying the area with a keen eye. The recruits, dressed in identical black uniforms, listened attentively as the instructor outlined the final instructions of their grueling journey that they encountered. A small stopwatch ticked down the seconds, marking the ending of a transformative experience.

The recruits found themselves lined up in formation, the crisp morning air sending a shiver through their ranks. The sun had just begun to cast its golden rays across the sprawling obstacle course that lay ahead. The distant sound of cadence echoed as instructors barked orders, setting the rhythm for the day's physical conditioning.

Y/N, in a mix of eager determination and nervous energy, embarked on a series of drills. The rhythmic thud of her running shoes on the pavement, the clatter of the wooden batons during her defensive tactics training, and the occasional grunts of exertion filled the air. Her sweat-drenched face reflected the strain of push-ups and sit-ups, as she pushed her body to the limits under the watchful eyes of the instructors.

In the classroom, Y/N and the recruits huddled around desks arranged in a U-shape, their attention fixed on a projector screen displaying legal codes and case studies. The instructor, a seasoned officer with a no-nonsense demeanor, led discussions on constitutional law, emphasising the importance of upholding justice while respecting individual rights. The atmosphere shifted between intense concentration and the occasional sigh of relief when a particularly challenging concept was grasped.

Transitioning to the firing range, Y/N, clad in protective gear, gripped her firearms with a mix of excitement and nostalgia, comparing her first and last training experiences. The sharp crack of gunfire pierced the air as instructors watched each recruit through the intricacies of marksmanship. The acrid scent of gunpowder hung in the air, a stark contrast to the calculated precision required for responsible firearm handling.

The final training day culminated in a series of simulated scenarios, where recruits faced role-playing actors portraying suspects, victims, and bystanders for the last time before they went off to reality. Tense negotiations unfolded by Y/N, and decisions were made under the pressure of time constraints. In these scenarios, the recruits began to understand the delicate balance between authority and empathy, not forgetting to navigate the complexities of real-world law enforcement.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the academy grounds, the recruits reflected on their long training journey. The camaraderie among them began to solidify, forged through shared challenges and the understanding that their journey together had finally come to an end. The police training scene painted a vivid picture of transformation, a crucible where individuals were molded into guardians of justice, prepared to face the unpredictable realities of their chosen profession.

~A Week Later~

Under the expansive blue sky, the police academy graduation ceremony unfolded with a unique vibrancy, symbolising not only the accomplishments of the entire class but also a moment of groundbreaking significance. The courtyard was filled with a mix of pride, excitement, and a touch of emotion as families and friends gathered to witness the culmination of months of rigorous training for the first female graduate to top the academy training.

The atmosphere crackled with anticipation as the graduating class, adorned in pristine uniforms, stood tall and proud in formation. Among them, Officer Yoon Y/N, the trailblazing young woman whose journey through the academy had shattered stereotypes and paved the way for future generations of female officers. Her eyes reflected a mix of determination and pride, her ponytailed hair peeking out from beneath the iconic police cap.

As the senior officer approached the podium, the crowd hushed in anticipation. The speeches emphasised not only the challenges overcome by all the graduates but also acknowledged the trailblazing spirit embodied by Officer Y/N. The audience erupted in applause, recognizing the significance of this historic moment for gender equality in law enforcement.

The presentation of badges took on added weight and symbolism as Officer Y/N stepped forward to receive hers. The emblematic badge, the same as her male counterparts, was affixed to her uniform with a sense of accomplishment that resonated beyond personal achievement. The cheers from the crowd swelled, celebrating not just for her finishing her training top of the class, but also for her taking a step forward for inclusivity in the field of law enforcement.

Families, friends, and fellow graduates showered her with cheers and congratulatory gestures. Embraced by her proud father, who is a retired army officer himself, stood amidst the celebration, a symbol of breaking barriers and proving that there should never be a limitation in the pursuit of justice.

The senior officer invited Y/N to the stage alongside him and led the graduates in the recitation of the law enforcement oath, the collective voices echoing a commitment to duty, honour, and the principles of justice. Officer Y/N's voice, resolute and unwavering, joined in, marking not only her personal commitment but also a groundbreaking moment for the history books.

A poignant rendition of the national anthem played as the Korean flag swayed gently in the breeze. The courtyard, filled with emotion and a sense of historic achievement, witnessed the class proudly standing shoulder to shoulder as they set off to protect and make a change in their country.

As the ceremony concluded, Officer Y/N moved through the crowd, exchanging congratulations and well-wishes. The police academy graduation of this young woman was not just a personal triumph but a significant milestone in the ongoing journey toward a more diverse and inclusive law enforcement community. The echoes of this historic graduation would resonate, inspiring future generations of aspiring female officers to follow in her courageous footsteps.

Making her way to her father, Y/N took off her police cap and rested it on his head as she gave him a strong salute with glistening eyes. Her father firmly saluted her back as the army medals on his chest clinked with his movement.

"I'm so proud of you, my child. May you find success wherever you go and whatever you do. If only your mother was here to see you like this. She'd be the happiest person in the world."

"I'm sure that wherever Eomma is, she's watching me with a big smile on her face." Y/N said as she held her father's hand assuringly.

As both Y/N and her father were talking to each other, the senior officer walked up to them. "Officer Y/N, congratulations again on your achievement. I'm sure that your father is really proud of you. As you have finished your police training on top of your class, you have been assigned to the crime investigation unit for your first posting."

"Isn't that a bit too much for her? I mean like she just finished her training." Her father spoke up as he looked at Y/N and then the senior officer.

"It's not. She has capabilities that I haven't seen for years. Her problem solving skills, and her investigation and combat skills are just too good to keep her waiting. Think about it Y/N, I'm sure you'll choose the best." The senior officer handed her a black file before bowing to her father and walking off.

"On second thoughts, I think you should join. These kinds of opportunities don't always come to everyone. You should grab it with both hands when it's in front of you."

"You're right Appa. I'll take this opportunity. I've trained long and hard for this, there's no way I'm letting this opportunity go."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first day of a female police officer at the station is likely to be a mix of excitement, anticipation, and a bit of nervousness.

Officer Yoon Y/N stepped into the bustling police station, her heart pounding with a mix of nerves and excitement. The aroma of fresh coffee and the low hum of officers engaged in conversations filled the air. The early morning sunlight streamed through the windows, casting a warm glow on the worn linoleum floors.

As she walked towards the front desk, Y/N couldn't help but notice the eyes turning towards her, sizing her up. She was met with a variety of reactions – some officers nodded in acknowledgment, while others continued their conversations without a second glance. The station was a tight-knit community, and a new face was always a subject of curiosity.

Commissioner of the Crime Investigation Unit Bang Si-hyuk, a high rank officer with short dark hair and a bubbly smile, emerged from his office to greet her. "Officer Y/N, welcome to the team," he said, extending a firm handshake. "We're glad to have you on board."

Y/N nodded, offering a confident smile despite the butterflies in her stomach. She was keenly aware of the responsibility that came with being in an Investigation department, especially as a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field.

"I'll take you to the Crime Investigation Unit office." He said as he led her to the lift that reached the 7th floor, accessible to only authorised people. "I'll get the front desk to have your ID card ready by the end of today so that you have full access to the 7th floor."

"Thank you commissioner." Y/N spoke as she tried not to expose the trembling feeling inside her.

Soon, the elevator dinged and the doors slid open. The two officers stepped out as Y/N looked around her surroundings in amazement. She always thought that the unit offices are always old fashioned with desks lined up with stacks of files. But NO... everything was so modern and high-tech. Everything just felt like a dream for Y/N as she continued to look around her.

Walking through the corridor, the commissioner stopped to scan his ID at a glass door which slid open after their access was granted. As the doors opened, Y/N was introduced with four pairs of beautiful eyes looking at her. The commissioner stepped further into the room, "This is your unit, meet your unit members Officer Y/N."

"Hi, I'm Y/N, I hope that we can get along and work together really well." Y/N greeted with a confident smile and tone.

"I'll take my leave, lots to do as the commissioner. Goodluck." And with that, the commissioner left the unit office.

The group of men stepped forward as they smiled and greeted Y/N one by one. A man with a broad smile approached Y/N first. He had a button nose and fairly square lower face shape. "Hiiiii! Nice to meet you, I'm Woozi."

The second man spoke up. He had a pretty oval face and medium almond eyes. "Nice to meet you, I am Park Hyung-sik."

The other two stepped forward and shook hands with her. The man with the small almond eyes who seemed to have a cold personality smiled and introduced himself, "I'm Hwang In-yeop."

Finally the last person with a cute, diamond face shape and also thin almond eyes. "Hey there Y/N, welcome to the team. I'm Ok Taecyeon."

"Nice to meet you all. I'm really excited to work with you guys." Y/N looked around and to her surprise, the department only consisted of men, there was no female officer on site so she decided to ask politely. "I'm sorry, but I don't see any female officers in the unit. Are they on break or something?"

The four looked at each other before In-yeop spoke up. "Well, the thing is that the leader of the Crime Investigation Unit prefers NOT to have female officers in the team."

"Why's that?" Y/N questioned as her inner curiosity and woman empowerment kicked in.

"He has his reasons and you don't need to know that." An unfamiliar voice spoke up from behind the group as Y/N turned to face the entrance to see the source of the voice. "Don't tell me that the new recruit to my unit is a woman."

Woozi interrupted with his cheekiness, "Ok, we won't." Y/N almost crackled when she heard that.

"Hi, I'm Officer Yoon Y/N, new recruit to the Crime Investigation Unit. You must be the leader I suppose."

"Hmm, Detective Kim Namjoon, Leader of the Crime Investigation Unit."

The two stared at each other intensely as if they were competing in a staring competition. Both of them knew from just this little interaction that they will not be getting along that easily. The air around them felt thicker and thicker as they continued to stare the life out of each other. Hyung-sik decided to break the ice as he spoke up.

"Y/N, let's give you a tour around our office and the entire police department before we get you your very own equipment. Who's gonna join us?"

Woozi, In-yeop and Taecyeon raised their hands as they all looked at Namjoon. "I'll stay back, I've got matters to solve with the commissioner."

"Ok, suit yourself, we'll see you later." Woozi said as he cheerfully tugged onto Y/N's arm and walked her out of the unit office. Looking at Woozi's cheerful personality put Y/N's mind to ease that there were people who she can turn to in this department.

'What a way to start my career...' She thought to herself.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

"This is the main foyer, you'll find any immediate information you need here with the desk clerks. And this is the server room. We get the advanced information here as well as process background checks on victims and suspects. You'll get access for all this once you get your ID. Don't worry about coming here for every case because we have special access so we can view it from our office upstairs" Woozi introduced Y/N to different parts of the station as she eagerly looked around devouring the place as she watched her dream come true.

"Let's take her to the Combat and Weapons unit." In-yeop suggests as they all get into the elevator and arrive at the 4th floor of the station.

The doors opened and Y/N was instantly welcomed by the heavy smell of oil, and metal. A man from behind his desk stood up as he greeted the four men from her unit. He had big double-lid eyes, a strong jawline and a warm sunshine smile. "Hello, who do we have here?" he asked.

"Hi, Officer Y/N, nice to meet you." Y/N introduced herself as the man took her hand into a gentle handshake. "I'm Jung Hoseok, I'm in charge of the weapons and defensive equipment for investigation and combat. Come, let me show you yours."

Hoseok picked up a gun and a taser as he looked up at Y/N. "You know how to use these?" Y/N reached for the taser, "Of course, I graduated top of my class. I've been taught about these since Day 1."

He pulled his hand back before Y/N could get the taser, "So you do know that to taser someone, you have to know how it feels to be tasered right?"

Y/N looked up at him, "I know."

"So... in order to have the taser as one of your defence weapons, you need to have a taser test." Hoseok smiled at her lightly knowing what she'll have to do through.

"Oh boy. Bring the pain oh yeah." Y/N said as she stood firmly on the ground with Taecyeon and Hyung-sik each holding her by her arm. Hoseok stood behind her as he aimed for her neck and shot the taser. The current ran through her whole body as she stiffened each muscle. After a few seconds, the shock ended and the boys were surprised that she didn't let out a single scream.

"Wow, you're one strong woman." Taecyeon said as he clapped his hands watching Y/N regain her composure.

"Strong power. Thank you." Y/N said with a smile as she cracked her neck.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Namjoon walked steadily through the corridor and into the commissioner's office. He pushed the large doors open and stood in front of Commissioner Si-hyuk's desk. "Why would you bring a woman into my unit?"

Si-hyuk straightened up in his seat as he looked straight into Namjoon's eyes. "That's my unit too and plus, she's one of the best the department can have. She graduated top of her class and I heard that she didn't even let out a single scream in her taser test today. She's strong, fit and very determined, what else do you need from an officer. She's in the team and that's final."

"You can't do this without letting me know. I can't have her on my team. She'll make my team and its members weak. Have you already forgotten what happened last time?" Namjoon started going red as he took out everything he had in his mind.

"For god sake Namjoon, you have to move on. You can't be trapped in the past and not focus on your present and future. You think that you're the only one affected by the past? Everyone on your team and including this entire station, we all feel sorry and can't forget that day. More things happened but you seem to only focus on that one thing." Si-hyuk let out a huff of breath as he got up and looked Namjoon in the eyes. "I know how you feel, but you can't keep blaming yourself and staying in the past. One more thing, Y/N will stay in the unit. End. Of. Discussion."

Namjoon looked at the commissioner for a while before he left his office without saying anything else. 'He thinks that we can move on easily with things like these.'

He entered the elevator and went up to the 7th floor, The Crime Investigation Unit. As the doors opened, he came face to face with Y/N who was about to get into the office too. Both of them had a level of dislike towards each other. Y/N seemed to have a minor dislike against Namjoon because of their earlier encounter and Namjoon had a major dislike against Y/N that he wants her out of the unit.

How will they be able to ever work together?

Hyung-sik was sitting at his desk when a new case file came through to him. "Guys, we have a case. A woman has been found dead at her work place and authorities suggest that it is not a normal case and so the Crime Investigation Unit has been called to the scene."

Y/N got ready to leave for the crime scene with the unit when In-yeop whispered to her,

"Good luck for your first case..." Y/N smiled at him.

"So much for my first day..."
