Chapter 14 (Edited)
***
I walked towards my packhouse after we, the other Alphas, my grandfather, father, and myself, had finished discussing what was going to happen to me now that I knew about me being the Shandhi and all the good stuff, like me not going somewhere by myself, even though I broke that rule all ready. I was going home by myself, needing to clear my head.
A frown was on my face, because I didn't understand why I was the halfbreed and the Shandhi and not someone else. I mean, I had been a fairly good girl, with a slight anger issue, but other than that, I was perfectly good. I did what I was told, even though I still had the stubborn side, but I had gotten that from my father.
I placed my hand on my bag, and I couldn't help but smirk, breaking me from my thoughts about me being a half-breed at that moment. I was really curious on what I was, so I had swapped one of my journals for the journal that my grandfather had, telling me all about being a Shandhi. The good thing was, I didn't really have anything important in the journal that I had swapped his with. The bad thing was, he would see that I could actually draw, even though I hated admitting that I could.
I shook my head and breathed through my nose, wanting me to stop those thoughts from appearing. No one had ever seen me draw, well except for Kate, but that was because she had been my test subject for a long while. She was, also, my Beta and best friend, so I trusted her with keeping that a secret.
I looked down, scowling when I saw that I was still in a skirt and it was messing up with my walking, even though I had taken off the flats before I walked home. I knew that Mom would be mad at me for messing it up, and that she might ground me, but I could clearly care less. It wasn't my fault for having to change my appearance, for the "better of the group".
A branch snapped, breaking me from my thoughts. Someone was there, and I was sure that they had been there for a while, watching me as if I was some sort of prey.
My whole body tensed automatically, while I let the bag drop to the floor with a soft thud. My breathing became softer, while I listened for any other sound of who was following me. I kept my head down, looking at the ground while I waited. I had stopped moving, knowing that I couldn't lead whatever it was towards my packhouse.
Another snap of a branch, indicated where the thing that had been following me was, and I just lunged at it, not caring that I was in a skirt or my Beta's blouse. I was just on guard mode, knowing that it was better me than them.
"Oof," the thing said, while we both fell down, while I was on top. There was a fit of giggles, because I didn't even look at who I was attacking, doing it purely on instincts. "Gee Jaz, I didn't know that you were turning all Lesbian on me," the person said between a fit of giggles. "This is the second time today that you jumped on me."
I glanced down to see that it was Kate, grinning up at me. A frown was on my face, because I didn't know why she was here. "Why are you here?" I asked, getting up. I grabbed her hand and pulled her up, causing her to laugh, because I wasn't that gentle with her.
Kate looked down and shifted on her feet. "I um... was wondering where you were, since you didn't lead us home in wolf form," Kate replied. A look of surprise appeared on my face when she had said that, because I didn't know I was supposed to. "So, you didn't know?" She shrugged her shoulder when I shook my head no. "Well, I guess that is the reason on why you are on your way back."
I grunted. "Now, where are you going, really?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. I didn't believe that she was going to look for me, because I didn't make it back.
Kate feigned a gasp of surprise, as if she couldn't believe that I was questioning her. Her eyes went wide open while she looked at me, putting a hand over her mouth. "Now, why would I lie to you?"
I gave her a knowing look. "You are doing something with my brother. I saw the look that was going on between you." I started to walk towards the house, picking up my bag on the way. I did not care that the clothing was dirty from me jumping onto Kate. They could be washed.
"Well, if you must know, James has been teaching me how to fight," Katie said, lying straight through her teeth.
"Faith can teach you," I replied, giving her a 'really' look. "She doesn't care. Or you can ask my father to send someone for you. There are other options on how to learn how to fight. You just want to see him."
Kate sighed and caught up with me, knowing that I was right. "Promise me that you won't tell anyone?" she asked.
I shrugged my shoulder. "We can discuss this tonight. I need to do some homework first and probably see if Dad can't get someone to train me."
"Why?"
I looked at her, knowing that I wasn't supposed to tell her about me being the Shandhi. It could lead her to get killed, and I wasn't going to let that happen, because she was under my pack and my protection. "Because," I said, having a smirk on my face. "I don't want Blake to have all the fun." With that, I walked away, leaving Kate laughing.
