Chapter 13 (Edited)
I couldn't help but frown when he had said that. If my great-great grandmother had this mark, and she was a half breed, then was I a half breed, also? If so, then who was my real parent and who wasn't my real parent? Where was my real parent, and what did he or she look like?
I mean, I looked exactly like both of my parents and not just one of them. I had my father's black hair and green eyes. I had his jawline and chin, even though they were softer than his, because of me being a female. I, also, had his slightly tanned skin, even though I was a little bit darker than him during the summer months, even though it wasn't that hot up in Maine.
From my mother, I had her thick, wavy hair style. I, also, had her body build, even though I was taller than her. I had her full lips and her small ears. I couldn't forget about the shape of her eyes, which was kind of almond shape. I couldn't forget about her smallish ears, which seemed to fit for my face.
So, who wasn't really my real parent and just raised me as if they were? Or, was that some big secret that I didn't need to know about it at that time? If so, then why would they bring up me being a half breed in the first place?
I looked at my father, and my frowned deepened, while I thought of that. I hoped that they were both my real parents, and I hadn't been lied to from the beginning of my life. I hoped that James was my full brother and not a half brother. "If I am the Shandhi, and I have the mark that makes me one, then-"
"We can talk about that later," my grandfather interrupted before he waved his hand, dismissively. "Do you have any questions about what you are? Or, do you have any questions about what's going to happen or anything like that? However, I will not answer the parent question. You will learn that later." He glanced at my father while he said that.
I played with my bag strap and bit my lip, thinking. Did I have any questions for him? Hell, ya I did. I mean, I didn't know who I was or what I was supposed to be. However, my questions and thoughts kept running in together, making a big mess in my head. I couldn't keep my thoughts straight, and it was driving me insane.
After a few minutes of me trying to keep my thoughts in order, I shook my head and sighed, finally breaking me from my jumbled up thoughts and questions. "Do... I have any powers?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. I looked at him, frowning because I really wanted to know about it. Powers would be cool, and I could use them on people if they made me mad. I couldn't help but smirk at that.
My grandfather shook his head, no, crushing my dreams of making The Bitch's life miserable. "The only power that you will have comes from the swords. Even then, it's just to keep the group together, so it's not much help fighting against an enemy by using those powers." He gave me a look, telling me that he knew what I was thinking about.
I frowned. Darn, I really had wanted to make her life very miserable, because she was so annoying, and she thought that she was the best at everything, which wasn't even true. Well, I guess that it meant I had to do the old fashion way, which meant I had to be a pain in the ass. I was really good at that, and I knew that I drive her really insane, because of the stuff that I say and do. I nodded my head, understanding what he meant by the power source, kind of. "Where are the sword pieces?"
He shrugged his shoulder, not knowing where they were at. "No clue," he replied. He gestured towards where the necklace laid hidden underneath my shirt. "That should help you find the pieces of the missing swords."
"How do you have the necklace, even though you aren't even a Shandhi?"
"My grandfather snuck it off of my mother and handed it to me before he died of unnatural causes. He gave me the book, also. That is why I have them and the Protectors do not."
"Did he know about the stuff of her having a second mate?"
My grandfather shrugged again, probably not knowing if he did or not. My great-great grandfather probably did, even if my grandfather didn't know if he did or not. "He might've known about it, but he couldn't have cared less. He was in love with her, and she was in love with him. That was all that had mattered to them."
I nodded my head, again. "What will happen if I don't choose the path of becoming one with the mate that I wasn't set up with from the beginning?" I asked. An image of Blake kissing me appeared in my mind. My heart rate picked up, but it wasn't fast enough, so they didn't notice it. The reason why it had picked up was because kissing had felt wonderful and right. I had to make sure that my face and eyes were emotionless of what had happened between us, because no one needed to know what had happened just yet. It was a forbidden kiss.
My dad sighed, making me look at him. He looked me in the eye, a pained expression on his face. "Then life as we know it will cease to exist," he replied.
