💜✨💧 A Mother's Love

A/N

I'm soooooo sorry for the lack of updates. I've gotten so busy lately and my writing motivation was in the shitter. But in my honest defense, I had to power through the previous AU in two days, which was a FEAT, lemme tell you.

~Asgard, Hundreds of Years Prior (Physically 7-8)~

For most of that day, Olivia was nowhere to be seen. She didn't come out for breakfast, she didn't make her lessons with Frigga, she skipped lunch, and her door was shut and locked. Thor and Loki just assumed she wasn't feeling so well or was just having a bad day. Besides, they knew better than to pry.

Though, even if her sons tried to stay away, Frigga wasn't so sure.

Olivia may have had bad days in the past, but she was usually such a positive girl, despite distant painful memories. Whatever was wrong, Frigga had to figure out what it was.

She sent her sons away to go play as she cautiously approached Olivia's locked door. Clearing her throat, she lightly knocked three times.

"Olivia?" She asked through the door. Olivia didn't seem to respond, but Frigga could sort of hear muffled sobs. She pursed her lips before using magic to unlock the door.

Inside, Olivia was still in her night clothes, curled under her furs and sheets on her bed. She clutched one of her pillows with her face buried in it, her crying being muffled. Instinct overcame Frigga seeing the poor young girl so upset.

"My darling girl, whatever is the matter?" Frigga asked her calmly, approaching Olivia's bed. Olivia peeked out from her pillow, her eyes bloodshot and rimmed with red. "Did someone hurt you?"

Olivia wordlessly shook her head and buried her face back into her pillow in hopes that Frigga would leave her be. Frigga wasn't so easy to give up, however. As Goddess of Motherhood, she had instincts to protect and it broke her heart to see a child so upset, especially for a reason she didn't know.

Frigga went back over and shut Olivia's door before seating herself on the girl's bed.

"Whatever it is, I'm here for you. You can tell me what's the matter and we can figure out what to do." Frigga said calmly. "It's no use crying about and waiting for the solution to come."

Finally, Olivia turned her head to look at Frigga, her cheek still pressed into the tear-soaked pillow.

"But there isn't any way to fix it." Olivia muttered.

"Then what is it?"

Olivia paused.

"How come everyone else gets to have parents and I don't? Why did my parents die and leave me alone? Why don't I get to know what my parents were like? Everyone else got to be sung to sleep and tended to by their mothers and played games and taught about the world by their fathers. Why did the Norns take my mother and father away from me?" Olivia burst out, followed by another fit of sobs. "Why was my mother taken from me??"

Frigga looked at the crying girl with sadness in her eyes. She had known that one day reality would crash down on Olivia and there wasn't anything Frigga could do to protect her from it. She had cared for this girl since her parents died, considered Olivia almost as her own. But no, she wasn't Olivia's mother. As much as she could try, it's nearly impossible to replace such a figure in a child's life.

Considering how best to proceed, Frigga took a breath.

"It's impossible to know why anything happens. But everything happens for a reason. I knew this day would come that the realization would hit you." Frigga started. Olivia sniffed and wiped her nose.

"I can't even remember their faces. I don't know what they were even like. I only know their names." She said.

"You may not know their faces exactly, but you see them every day." Frigga said, brushing Olivia's messy hair back from her face.

"How?"

"Every time you look in the mirror, you see your parents. Your face looks much like your father's did. The same facial structure, such as your nose and eye shape. Your eyes are the exact same color as your mother's, as is your hair color." Frigga explained. Olivia considered this before scooting out from under her covers and right next to Frigga, resting her head on her lap. Frigga stroked the Olivia's hair soothingly.

"How did you know my parents?" Olivia asked.

"Ah, your mother and I met when we were young, probably about your age." Frigga started.

"What was she like? Where did you meet? And how? And how did she meet my father?" Olivia asked rapid-fire.

"Shh, slow down." Frigga said with a chuckle.

"Sorry..."

"It's alright, darling, you're curious." Frigga said. "Let's see... I believe your mother and I met through our learning. She was learning to heal like her mother before her and I was learning various other types of magic. But I also had to learn how to heal. We started in the same beginner's class. She and I both had big things in our futures. Like your mother, your grandmother was the head medic for the Asgardian army. Your mother was ever so excited to continue that legacy and studied hard to be as good as her mother had been.

"Now, Iri was quite the complex character. She was an excellent healer and extremely compassionate. However, you know she was very loud-mouthed with almost no filter. Why, I believe when we were teenagers, she won a drinking contest and was still able to walk away without falling over. She beat a Captain in the Army, whom she left passed out on the floor. She also knew how to handle a weapon quite well. She may have even won a tournament or two.

"Even as the years went by, we were very close. You wouldn't know it by how I behave today, but we would get into trouble every now and again. Steal horses and ride for hours or even haggle shopkeepers for goods at too-low prices. She bought a nice dagger and managed to convince the keep to sell it to her for a mere three gold pieces when it was priced at 30."

"How did she do that?" Olivia asked, in complete wonderment.

"A possible missuse of her status and some fancy words. But I wasn't exactly perfect either. I bought a breastplate for 5 gold pieces and a pelt by making the pelt look far bigger than it actually was with illusion magic.

"When we were... Oh, I'd say about 850 (My guess is 18) is when she met your father. He was a young soldier at the time, but being "groomed for command" as they say. General Kavan had taken an interest in Aemon and wanted him to act as General when the time came. Your father was on a scouting run and was ambushed by a herd of boars. And your mother was put in charge of healing him. They continued seeing each other after that. Of course, Aemon had heard of Iri through the stories the other soldiers had told. Some of them saw it as him 'taming the beast,' to which Iri would simply take out the legs of whoever said so by kicking their knees.

"I was wed to Odin, who was then heir to the throne just about when Aemon was promoted to General, one of the highest ranked soldiers in the army. Once I became pregnant with Thor was when Iri took over as head medic from her mother. Then, not long after Thor was born, your parents wed. In fact, your mother helped deliver Thor when the time came. And when Thor had started walking and saying a few sparse things, your mother became pregnant with you."

"Where does Loki fit into this?" Olivia asked.

Frigga paused before answering. It was probably best to wait to tell her. She was already mentally shaken. Frigga hated lying to Olivia, but for her sake, she had to.

"I became pregnant with him just a bit before your mother became pregnant with you. Loki came along barely a couple of months before you (in human years, Loki is a year and four months older than Olivia). We spent a lot of time together in the palace taking care of you both. When it came to names, I liked the name Sigyn, but your parents wanted a name from Midgard because they were quite fond of the realm. Olivia is 'olive' in the Midgardian language Latin, mostly used by the Romans.

"Olive? Like, the food?" Olivia asked. Frigga chuckled.

"Yes. Though, in the Greek mythos, olives are sacred to Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, Strategic War, and Arts. I think your parents wanted to invoke that.

"Unfortunately, the war started when you were only a year or so old (probably like, 5-6 human years, but still barely moving on her own). As your parents were both absolutely needed, they had to go along with Odin. I stayed behind and offered to care for you while they were gone. I... Don't really like remembering when the war was over because neither of your parents came home. So that left Odin and I in charge of you. I felt I owed it to your parents." Frigga finished.

Olivia remained quiet for a few beats. Finally, she coughed to clear her choked up throat.

"But I do know one thing." Frigga added.

"What's that?"

"Your parents are watching over you and are waiting for you in the halls of Valhalla for when your time comes. And I'm certain they are incredibly proud of you."

Olivia finally gave a weak smile and Frigga hugged her tightly.

"Alright. Why don't you try getting some sleep. You'll feel better after." Frigga said, pointing to Olivia's mussed up sheets. Olivia nodded and crawled under her covers.

"Can you sing something?" Olivia asked.

"Of course." Frigga replied with a warm smile before starting. (Media)

"Lay down your head and I'll sing you a lullaby. Back to the years of loo-li lai-lay. And I'll sing you to sleep and I'll sing you tomorrow. Bless you with love for the road that you go.

"May you sail far to the far fields of fortune. With diamonds and pearls at your head and your feet. And may you need never to banish misfortune.

"May you find kindness in all that you meet. May there always be angels to watch over you. To guide you each step of the way. To guard you and keep you safe from all harm. Loo-li, loo-li, lai-lay..."

"...May you bring love and may you bring happiness. Be loved in return to the end of your days.

"Now fall off to sleep, I'm not meaning to keep you. I'll just sit for a while and sing loo-li, lai-lay.

"May there always be angels to watch over you. To guide you each step of the way. To guard you and keep you safe from all harm. Loo-li, loo-li, lai-lay, loo-li, loo-li, lai-lay."

Olivia continued to cradle Lyanna in her arms, making sure her daughter was sound asleep and safe. It wasn't often that she recalled that day with Frigga, but she always remembered the lullaby she sang. And now she was building her own family, the family she never truly got to have. Frigga was her surrogate mother, of course, but Olivia wanted to make sure that her daughter grew up with both of her biological parents to love and care for her.

She saw Loki enter the room with a warm smile, to which Olivia returned it with her own. She passed Lyanna over so Loki could put her to bed. After a couple of minutes, he returned.

"So... How long were you sitting outside the door to hear me singing?" Olivia asked. Loki flushed and coughed a few times.

"Just a few minutes. How did you-?" Loki started.

"I know you too well. And anyways, I'm not that good." Olivia said, laughing a little. Loki took her face in his hand and turned her head to look at him. Her face flushed red again as she met his gaze.

"My dove, you have a siren's voice. Anyone who says otherwise is deaf." Loki told her firmly. She smiled as she leaned into his touch.

"But not an angel?" She asked teasingly.

"A siren is far more dangerous and alluring. Hypnotic, yet beautiful." Loki replied, smirking. Olivia smiled and curled closer to him under the covers, resting her head on his chest.

"You always know exactly what to say." She said as he turned out the lights in the room.

"Because I know you too well." Loki repeated her earlier quip. "You, the love of my life and the mother of my child."

"My mother wasn't around and I swear I'll be around for our children, no matter what." Olivia replied.

"Oh, so it's children in the plural sense?" Olivia could almost hear Loki's smirk. She lightly smacked his chest before laying back down.

"We'll talk about it later." Olivia said with a chuckle.

"Alright, alright." Loki consented, kissing her forehead lightly as Olivia finally closed her eyes.
