Chapter 5: The Kidnapping
The safe house was supposed to be a sanctuary, but Violet’s uneasy peace was shattered by a sudden, brutal intrusion.
She and Elias Blackwood were deep in discussion, trying to piece together their next steps, when a loud crash echoed through the safe house.
Violet's heart raced as the door to the safe house was flung open with a violent shove.
Four burly men, clad in dark clothing and masks, stormed in.
Violet’s scream was cut short by one of the intruders who grabbed her roughly.
“Violet Sterling,” the leader of the group growled, his voice distorted by the mask. “You’re coming with us.”
Struggling against her captor, Violet’s eyes darted to Elias.
“Elias, help!”
Elias moved to intervene, but the men were already overpowering him.
A few quick, practiced moves from the leader, and Elias was restrained with a rope.
Violet was pulled from the safe house and thrown into a waiting van, the door slamming shut behind her.
As the van sped away, Violet’s thoughts raced.
She knew Mauritius was behind this, but why now? And where were they taking her?
Her fear was compounded by the realization that Elias was also in danger.
Back at the safe house, Elias managed to wriggle free from his restraints and quickly grabbed his phone.
He dialed a number, his face a mask of determination.
“Ingrid,” he said when the call was answered.
“I need your help. Violet’s been taken.”
The response from Ingrid was calm but urgent.
“I’m already on it. I’ve been monitoring the situation from within Mauritius’s operation.
I’ll track their location and send you the coordinates.”
Unbeknownst to Mauritius and his men, Ingrid had been working covertly with Elias.
She had grown increasingly disillusioned with Mauritius’s methods and was quietly aiding Elias in his mission to thwart him.
As the van carrying Violet neared an old, abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of town, the atmosphere inside was tense.
Violet was shoved into the dimly lit interior, her hands bound behind her.
The warehouse was filled with shadows and the echoes of distant machinery.
Mauritius Hyde stood in the center of the warehouse, his presence commanding and cold.
His eyes, however, betrayed a flicker of emotion as he looked at Violet.
“You’re quite the troublemaker, Violet,” Mauritius said, his voice a low, menacing growl.
“But I have to admire your resilience. Now, we’ll see how you handle the consequences.”
Violet glared at him, defiant even in her precarious situation.
“You won’t get away with this. Someone will come for me.”
Mauritius chuckled darkly.
“I’m counting on it.
The more resistance, the more interesting.”
Back at the safe house, Elias worked quickly.
Ingrid’s coordinates led him to the warehouse, and with her guidance, he found a way inside, avoiding the guards and making his way to where Violet was being held.
As he approached, he noticed the guards were becoming more alert, their focus shifting to the increasing possibility of an intrusion.
Elias needed to be careful. He had to save Violet without alerting Mauritius to his presence.
Ingrid’s voice crackled through Elias’s earpiece.
“I’ve got a clear path for you. They’re expecting an attack from the front; try the back entrance.”
Elias nodded to himself and carefully made his way to the back of the warehouse.
He slipped through a side door, moving stealthily towards the main area where Violet was held.
Inside, Violet was struggling with her bonds, her eyes scanning the room for any sign of help.
The sound of approaching footsteps made her heart skip a beat.
“Elias!” she whispered urgently as she spotted him slipping into the room.
Elias quickly moved to her side, using a knife to cut through her bindings.
“We need to get out of here,” he said quietly.
“Mauritius is here, and he’s not going to let you go easily.”
With Violet freed, Elias led her through a maze of darkened passages, avoiding the guards and making their way towards the exit.
The plan was to escape before Mauritius realized what was happening.
As they neared the exit, the sound of shuffling footsteps and the clanging of metal echoed through the warehouse.
Mauritius’s men were closing in, their search growing more frantic.
Elias and Violet made a final sprint towards freedom, their hearts pounding as they burst out into the open.
The night air was a welcome relief as they dashed towards a waiting vehicle.
Ingrid’s voice came through Elias’s earpiece again, her tone filled with urgency.
“You’re clear for now. I’ll cover your escape and make sure Mauritius doesn’t follow.”
With a final glance back at the warehouse, Elias drove away with Violet, their escape barely ahead of the danger that pursued them.
