The Heiress

While the others were still sleeping, I was currently behind the controls of the ship. I then steered us over a gas giant and sure enough, there was Trask.

Y/n: Dad. Dad! Hey, everybody wake up! We're here.

Dad and I switch places and I hold the Child to my chest.

Dad: Get ready for landing.

Dad suddenly hits the console in frustration.

Dad: Dank Farrik. The landing array isn't responding. Without the guidance system, it'll be a manual re-entry.

Y/n: In other words: another bumpy landing.

Dad: Pretty much. Once we're through the atmosphere, there should be enough fuel to slow us down. If we don't burn to a crisp.

Dad steers the ship upward, so the bottom of the Crest takes the brunt of the heat.

Dad: Y/n, come up here! I need your hands!

I set the Child down in my seat and stand on Dad's right.

Dad: Keep the lever back and steady.

Y/n: Right!

I hold on to the lever and see us heading for the docking port at the bottom.

Flight Control: (over comm) Razor Crest, this is Trask flight control. Please reduce your speed to port protocol.

Dad: Trying our best here! Engaging reverse thrusters. Brace!

The ship was starting to feel like it was about to break apart.

Y/n: Come on, baby. Don't fail us now.

Flight Control: (over comm) Razor Crest, do you copy? You have to reduce speed.

Dad: Almost there, almost there.

Flight Control: (over comm) Razor Crest, do you copy? Razor Crest, you're coming in too fast. You have to re-

I hit communications off and huff. Dad immediately throws the switch and the Crest stops right above the platform.

Dad: Here we go. Nice and easy.

Suddenly the right engine backfired and we dropped into the water. A service crane attached to the ship and pulls us out.

It drops us on the platform and we make our way out. A Mon Calamari dock worker comes up to us.

Dock Worker: So, how can I help you?

Dad: (thumbs at the Crest) Can you fix it?

Dock Worker: Fix it? Nah. But I can make it fly.

Dad: Do what you can.

Y/n: Zero! Stay with the ship and help them with repairs. And make sure Koran doesn't try to eat any of them!

Zero: Of course, sir.

Dock Worker: I'm sorry... "eat"?!

Dad hands the worker some credits and we start walking into the town.

The woman starts squeaking as she looks for her husband and at the far end, there was a green-skinned frog-man.

They both run to each other and hug, looking at the container of eggs.

The Child whimpers, looking at us.

Y/n: I know you're hungry. Don't worry, we'll get you something to eat.

The husband looks at us and shakes our hands, gratefully.

Y/n: You're welcome.

Dad: We were told that you could lead us to others of our kind?

The husband nods and gestures to a building behind us.

Dad: The inn? Over there?

The husband motions us to follow him and we enter a restaurant. The husband waves at a Mon Calamari who nods to us.

Dad: (to the husband) Thank you.

Mon Calamari: Have a seat over there.

Dad and I walk over to a table and sit down as the Mon Calamari stands in front of us.

Mon Calamari: What can I get you?

Dad: Nothing for us.

Y/n: A bowl of chowder for the baby, though.

Mon Calamari: These seats are scarce, friends. Everyone here needs to eat.

Dad: We can buy something else.

Dad puts several pieces of flan on the table.

Dad: Information. Have you seen any others that look like us?

The Mon Calamari pours a bowl of chowder for the Child.

Mon Calamari: Others with beskar have been through here.

Y/n: Do you know anyone who could take us to them?

Mon Calamari: I know someone who might help.

The Mon Calamari walks over to a Quarren at another table. As they converse, I see the Child playing with his bowl of chowder and suddenly a squid jumps on his face.

(PLZ DON'T MAKE ANY FACE-HUGGER JOKES. THOSE THINGS GIVE ME THE CREEPS.)

Y/n: Don't play with your food.

I grab the squid off the Child's face and crush it in my hand, dropping it on the floor.

The Quarren comes over and sits on Dad's left.

Quarren: You seek others of your kind?

Dad: Have you seen them?

Quarren: Aye. I can bring you to them.

Dad: Where?

Quarren: Only a few hours' sail. It'll cost you though.

Dad and I look at one another before meet the Quarren's eyes.

-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-

Later Dad, the Child, and I found ourselves on a Quarren fishing boat.

We look out over the roaring waters as waves pass one by one. The Quarren we met at the restaurant was apparently the captain of this ship. He then walks over to us.

Captain: You ever see a mamacore eat? It's quite a sight.

Neither Dad or I respond.

Captain: Child might take an interest. Very entertaining. Come on over.

We then walk over and watch as they open the gate on the floor.

They then drop a net of fish into it and the water bubbles numerously like a hot tub.

Captain: She must be hungry. Oftentimes we'll feed her in the early morning, but we missed that cause we were goin' out of PORT!

The Captain hits the Child's crib with his pole and sent it into the mamacore cage, getting swallowed by the monster!

Dad: No!

Dad jumps in as I aim my blaster at the Captain's head.

Y/n: Why did you do that?!

Another Quarren comes up behind me and gets me in a neck-lock with his pole as they lock up the cage, sealing Dad in the water.

Y/n: (chokes) Dad!

Captain: The beskar is ours! Kill the boy!

I yank the Quarren choking me over my shoulders and take out my knife. I stab him in the throat, only to get stabbed in the side by another Quarren.

Y/n: AGH!

The Quarren rips the pole out of my side, as I fall on my back, holding my wound.

I watch painfully as the others stabbed at Dad with their poles, trying to drown him.

Y/n: (groans) Dad...

I then hear jetpacks and watch three Mandalorians in blue armor drop down and start attacking the Quarren crew.

Two of the Mandalorians were female based on their helmet design. The male comes over and helps me up, looking at my wound.

Male Mandalorian: You're gonna be okay, kid.

The females help Dad out of the cage and one of them jumps in after the Child.

The other comes over and I see distinctive white markings on hers.

Female Mandalorian: Are you okay, young one?

Y/n: Got me right where the beskar doesn't cover.

Female Mandalorian: Nothing a little stitching won't fix.

The other female Mandalorian burst out of the cage and held the Child's crib, which was badly dented.

The other female pries it open and hands the Child to Dad.

Female Mandalorian #2: Here you go, little one.

Dad looks at me and wraps his arm around my shoulders, holding me close. We then get a good look at their armors.

Dad: Thank you. All of you. We've been searching for more of our kind.

Female Mandalorian #1: Well, lucky we found you first.

Y/n: My father and I have been quested to deliver this child. We were hoping that-

We froze as we watched the Mandalorians take their helmets off and look at us.

Dad stands and glowers at them.

Dad: Where did you get that armor?

Female Mandalorian #1: This armor has been in my family for three generations.

Dad: You do not cover your face. You are not Mandalorian.

Male Mandalorian: They're part of them.

Female Mandalorian #1: Dank Farrik...

Y/n: What do you mean?

I groan, standing up and holding my side.

Y/n: Part of what?

Female Mandalorian #1: I am Bo-Katan of Clan Kryze.

Y/n: Kryze? Weren't they the ruling line of Mandalore?

Bo-Katan: Indeed, young one. I was born on Mandalore and fought in the Purge. I am the last of my line. And you, are Children of the Watch.

Dad: The Watch?

Bo-Katan: Children of the Watch are a cult of religious zealots that broke away from Mandalorian society. Their goal was to re-establish the ancient way.

Dad: There is only one way. The Way of the Mandalore.

Dad then blasts off into the sky and I look at the three helmet-less Mandalorians and they at me.

Y/n: While my father won't say it, I will: we are in your debt. And thank you.

Bo-Katan nods to me as do her associates and I jettison after Dad.

-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-

Night had fallen over the dock as we were making our way back to the ship. Dad had the Child in one arm and was helping me walk with the other.

Y/n: I'm sorry, Dad. If I'd-

Dad: Save it. This isn't your fault. You fought just as I taught you. We both were played. Your wound, is it getting worse?

Y/n: Still hurts, but I think the bleeding's stopped.

???: Hey!

We stop as several Quarren started surrounding us.

Quarren: You! You killed my brother.

Dad: Let us pass.

Quarren: (chuckles) I don't think you understand. You killed my brother and now, I'm gonna kill your pet and your kid.

Before Dad and I could go for our blasters, we hear jetpacks and Bo-Katan and her Mandalorians drop down beside us.

Bo-Katan: He didn't kill your brother... I did.

We all raise our blasters and shoot all the Quarrens, all of them dropping dead. Bo-Katan turns to us.

Bo-Katan: Can we at least buy you a drink?

-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-

While at the restaurant, we talked with Bo-Katan and her associates, now known to be Koska Reeves and Axe Wolves.

Zero was currently kneeling beside me, stitching my wound.

Zero: Please try not to move, Master Y/n.

Y/n: Just hurry up, Zero. I feel like I'm being vivisected.

Zero: I'm doing what I can.

Bo-Katan: Trask is a black market port. They're staging weapons that have been bought and sold with the plunders of our planet. We're seizing those weapons and using them to retake our home world. Once we've done that, we'll seat a new Mandalore on the throne.

Dad: That planet is cursed. Anyone who goes there dies. Once the Empire knew they couldn't control it, they made sure no one else could either.

Bo-Katan: Don't believe everything you hear. Our enemies want to separate us. But Mandalorians are stronger together.

Dad: That's not part of our plan.

Y/n: My father and I have been quested to bring this child back to the Jedi.

Bo-Katan: ....What do you know of the Jedi?

Dad: My son knows more than me.

Y/n: And I only know what my mother did. The Jedi were peacekeepers during the time of the Grand Republic. Until they were betrayed by the clones. We were hoping you could help us by Creed.

Bo-Katan: ...I can lead you to one of there kind. But first we need your help on our mission.

Dad: Mission?

-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-

Later we stood on top of the crest at the port, staring at an Imperial cargo ship.

Bo-Katan: You see that Imperial Gozanti-freighter? It's being loaded with weapons as we speak. According to the port's manifest, it's scheduled to depart at first light.

Dad: So we stow away.

Koska: We've been hitting them pretty hard. They scan for life-forms as a precaution before pushing back.

Dad: If you wanna do this with five, you're gonna need the element of surprise.

Bo-Katan: Exactly. The freighter will maintain trawling speed while inside the shipping lanes and then ascend in orbit. We'll jet up when they're cruising in atmosphere. The tower won't allow them to climb until they've left the port's airspace.

Y/n: How many Stormtroopers will be on board?

Bo-Katan: A squad at most.

Axe: And they couldn't hit the side of a Bantha.

-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-

After discussing the plan, Dad left with Zero to leave the Child in the frog-family's care.

I was inside the Crest, gearing up while the others were outside.

Bo-Katan: Your father seems to care a great deal about you.

I look up and see Bo-Katan walking up the ramp towards me.

Y/n: He's all I got left. I mean, I also have Zero and Koran, but before them it was just me and him. Sometimes, I wonder if things would've played out differently if my mother was still here.

Bo-Katan seats herself across from me and continues to watch me gear up.

Bo-Katan: Tell me, your mother, what was she like?

Y/n: I have a photo of her. She gave it to me when I was four. She said, "Even if I'm lightyears away, I'll still be by you. Guiding you safely."

I take out my photo of her and show it to Bo-Katan.

(OKAY, I KNOW THIS IS SHAE VISZLA, BUT I SEARCHED AND SEARCHED FOR A GOOD FEMALE HELMETLESS MANDALORIAN, AND SHE WAS THE BEST I COULD USE. SO JUST BARE WITH IT.)

Bo-Katan gasps and covers her mouth.

Bo-Katan: Marianna...

I froze in place.

Y/n: That was my mother's name. How do you-?

Bo-Katan: Take off your helmet.

Y/n: W-What?

Bo-Katan: Take it off! Please! I need to see your face!

Y/n: No! My father may be more strict in the Mandalore Creed, but there are some things I keep to heart as well. And never showing my face is one of them.

Bo-Katan closes her eyes and shakily takes a deep breath.

Bo-Katan: Forgive me. It's just... I can't believe your her son.

Y/n: You still haven't explained how you know my mother.

Bo-Katan: She was my best friend. Your mother was one of the strongest and most kindest Mandalorians I had ever known. When battle called, she was an untamable storm of violence. And when it was done, she mourned the loss of her fellow brothers and sisters when death claimed them. She was unlike any other Mandalorian I'd ever known. When Mandalore fell, I thought she died in battle. Defending it from the Empire. But I guess I was wrong.

I sat down, trying to comprehend what Bo-Katan had said.

Y/n: You're saying my mother... wasn't a follower of the Creed? Then, how could she have entered the Tribe? She kept this from my father and me and-

Bo-Katan silenced me by kneeling and holding my shoulder.

Bo-Katan: Y/n, your mother was a good woman. The most amazing I could have ever had the honor and privilege of knowing. While you and your father may hold the old ways of Mandalore dear, your mother cared enough to want to have you. Whether or not that means anything to you, is for you to decide. But I know this for sure... she cared about loving and saving people more than following Mandalore's ways. It was one of the few things that amazed me the most about her.

I shake my head, still trying contemplate what I'd learned.

Y/n: If my father learns this... it could destroy him. He'll probably look at me and think I'm his greatest mistake. That I'm-

Bo-Katan: If you truly believe that your father would abandon you because of the old ways...

Bo-Katan stands.

Bo-Katan: Then come find us. And we will show you the true meaning of the Mandalore Way.

As she leaves, I hold my head in thought. Would Dad abandon me if he knew the truth? Would he think I was a mistake?

Mom.... why didn't you tell us?

-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-

Morning had come and the Imperial freighter was taking off. The five of us jettisoned to the ship and landed on one of the outer catwalks, taking out the guards.

Axe hacked the door open and Bo-Katan and I take out our knives. We rush in and Bo slices the throat of one of the troopers as I stab one three times in the stomach and use my jetpack to tornado-kick another across the hall.

More Stormtroopers started pouring in from the halls and elevators, making us take cover behind columns. We began to push our way up, column by column, shooting several troopers at a time.

Eventually we kill them all and head for the cargo bay. Another squad attacks and makes us hide behind the columns.

Stormtrooper: Over there! Stop them!

Dad throws a smoke grenade, obscuring the troopers line of fire and allowing us to take them all out with our thermal visions.

We enter the elevator and take it towards the cargo, where sure enough there were more Stormtroopers. As we make our way down, killing them one by one, the doors to the cargo bay seal and entrap us right in front of the bay.

Axe: Now what?

Y/n: We're right in front of them. This part of the hall controls the doors for the cargo bay.

Dad: So we blow them out.

Bo-Katan: Nice thinking.

Koska approaches the controls and and we hear screaming from the other side. The door opens and we seal the cargo bay.

Axe and Koska open a supply crate and there were at least a dozen blasters in it. We then hear a voice come over the comm and Bo-Katan grabs the receiver.

Imperial: (over comm) Come in. Do you copy?

Bo-Katan: I copy. Thanks for packing up all this gear so nicely. Imagine what a division of us could do when we get our hands on what's inside these shiny little boxes.

Imperial #2: (over comm) If you think you're going to escape with those weapons, you are sadly mistaken. Even if you managed to jettison a few of those crates, we will comb the entire area until you are hunted down and killed.

Bo-Katan: Oh, we're not jettisoning anything. We're taking the entire ship.

Dad and I look at Bo-Katan in shock.

Dad: What?

Y/n: Have you lost your mind?

Bo-Katan: Put some tea on. We'll be up in a minute.

Dad walks up to her and looks her dead in the eyes.

Dad: This is more than we signed up for.

Bo-Katan: There is something I need if I am to rule Mandalore. Something that was once mine. They know where it is, and soon so will I. Regardless, we are taking the ship for the battles ahead.

Dad: We got you your weapons. We have to return to our ship with the foundling.

The fact that Dad says "foundling", makes me question even more what I am. What would happen if I tell him.

Bo-Katan: If you want my help finding the Jedi, you will help me take this ship.

Dad: You're changing the terms of the deal.

Bo-Katan: ....This is the Way.

As they put on their helmets, I start to follow, but Dad grabs my arm.

Dad: What are you doing?

Y/n: Helping them.

Dad: This is not what I signed us up for.

Y/n: They're Imperials, Dad. We're helping the galaxy AND our people. Saving Mandalore should also be a part of our mission. Not just the Child... or does that not matter to you?

Dad stares at me before releasing my arm. We follow the others and suddenly fall against the wall. The ship felt like it was nose-diving.

Bo-Katan: They're taking the ship down! Let's move!

I look ahead and see the entrance to the bridge.

Y/n: There! That's gotta be the bridge!

Troopers were blocking our path, two with heavy guns.

Bo-Katan: How many are there?

Axe: Six to ten! Two with heavy repeating blasters!

Koska: We're losing altitude fast.

Bo-Katan: They have too much firepower.

Koska: Still dropping! Ten-thousand! Nine-thousand!

Axe: We'll never make it to the bridge in time!

As Koska continues to countdown our descent, Dad takes out several detonators and primes them.

Dad: Cover me!

Dad rushes out and starts taking multiple blasts all over his body until he falls and throws the detonators at the troopers, sending a massive explosion that makes us cover our eyes.

I rush over and help Dad up as we continue towards the bridge. We open the door and yank the officer out of the chair from dive-bombing us.

Dad and Koska sit at the controls and pull with all their might, pulling the ship upwards. Bo-Katan extends her knife and levels it at the officer's throat.

Bo-Katan: Where is it?

Officer: Where's what?

Bo-Katan: The Darksaber. Does he have it?

Officer: If you're asking, you already know.

Dad and Koska manage to yank the ship upward and send us towards the sky. They both pant in exhaustion as I watch Bo-Katan still has her knife at the officer's throat.

Bo-Katan: I'll let you live. But you WILL take me to him.

Officer: You might let me live, but he won't.

The officer chews something in his mouth and his whole face electrocutes, killing himself.

Bo-Katan: NO!

Koska: We have to go. He sent a distress signal.

Bo-Katan: Clear the atmosphere and prepare to jump.

Dad gets out of the chair and Bo-Katan looks at us.

Bo-Katan: Are you sure you won't join us?

Dad: There's something we need to do.

Y/n: We have to return the baby to the Jedi first.

Bo-Katan: The offer stands if you change your minds.

Dad: Where can we find the Jedi?

Bo-Katan removes her helmet.

Bo-Katan: Take the foundling to the city of Calodan on the forest planet of Corvus. There you will find Ahsoka Tano. Tell her you were sent by Bo-Katan. And thank you. Both of you. Your bravery will not be forgotten. This is the Way.

Dad/Y/n: This is the Way.

As Dad leaves, I go to follow, but Bo grabs my arm.

Bo-Katan: Be safe, young one. And I ask that you not die. You may be the only thing I have left of Marianna.

I hug Bo-Katan, surprising her as she dropped her helmet.

Y/n: Thank you for telling me the truth.

Bo-Katan holds me tight, not wanting to let go.

Dad: Y/n! Let's go!

I part from Bo-Katan and hold her arms.

Y/n: I promise you'll see me again. Be safe. All of you.

Bo kisses her hand touches the center of my helmet, making me smile as I rush off after Dad.

We both exit out the catwalk hatch and jump off, free-falling towards the ocean and activating our jetpacks.

-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-

We find the frog-family's apartment and see the Child and mother looking at one of their hatchlings.

Zero: Ah, Master Y/n! Master Din! Was your mission successful?

Y/n: Yeah. We found where to find a Jedi. Thank you for watching him.

Dad: Okay, kid. Come on. It's time to go.

Dad pulls the Child away and hands him to me.

Dad: (to the family) Congratulations.

As we leave, the Child continues to reach out to the hatchling, but I tap his head.

Y/n: Uh-uh. We've got enough pets.

As head back to the dock, we see the Crest had carbon-roping and patches all over that looked like they couldn't fit.

The Mon Calamari dock worker stands beside us.

Dad: I gave you a thousand credits and this was the best you could do?

The worker hands a pad for Dad to sign, and he sighs doing so.

We enter the cockpit and I sit the baby down on the left and I sit in the right while Dad takes the controls. He looks at all the roping and huffs.

Dad: Mon Calamari. Unbelievable.

Y/n: Hey, at least they're better than the Quarren we've had to deal with. They're more slippery than most aquatic humanoids.

Dad: (sighs) Can't argue there.

As Dad starts priming the thrusters, I see a squid-like urchin start to go for the kid and I throw my knife, pinning it to the wall and killing it.

The Child laughs as I turn his chair to face me.

Y/n: Guess what? We know where we're taking you.

Dad: But it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

Y/n: At this point, I expect all our rides to be bumpy.

Dad engages the hyperdrive and we head towards our next destination.

(AND THAT'S "THE HEIRESS" DONE! MAN, I'M PLOWING THROUGH THESE FASTER THEN I THOUGHT I WOULD! HOPE YOU ALL ENJOYED AND "THE SIEGE" WILL BE OUT OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS!)
