Chapter 4.

Moira's eyes focused on Valerie for a second, then, her eyes diverted to the floor and the smile she had showed Merlin faltered for a second. Her lips tense in a line, before she turned to the wizard, smiling as her chin lifted and she pulled her chest out. This didn't go unnoticed by Merlin who frowned and tilted his head to the side, gesture he disguised with a smile, taking a step forward, beginning to walk around her making a circle.

"What are you even wearing?" Merlin raised an eyebrow, Moira's hands were on her waist, she tilted her hip to the side.

"Women wear pants now, catch up, old man" Moira spoke, flipping her hair above her shoulder.

"Banshee"

"Dirt-eater"

They both glared at each other, eyes appeared to be throwing fire. The rain seemed to be coming to a stop as Merlin's eyes lit up and a laughter came out of him, Moira followed, laughing as she jumped to his arms and held him tightly, he leaned backwards, stumbling back before he regained his balance and held her tight, tangling one hand on her hair. Morgana sunk her head on the side of Merlin's neck, he leaned his head to her. There was something intimate and personal in their hug even as they laughed free, it almost made Valerie feel like if she was sneaking on something she shouldn't.

"How long has it been?" Merlin's voice resonated due to the silence of the cave, yet it nearly seemed like a hushed whisper, Valerie wasn't able to hear her aunt's response, but she did see Merlin's eyes open wide as he broke apart from the hug, holding the woman by the shoulders.

"And you managed that long on your own, never would have thought you had it in you" His eyebrows raised were raised like an mother who learnt the child had skipped school, but there was a smile on his lips after the words came out. There was something tender about their encounter that Valerie couldn't miss, even as she closed her fists, one hand holding the sword tight.

"The life is easier when you aren't around to bring me trouble, Emrys"

"Would you stop for a second and explain to me what is going on?" Valerie snapped lifting her sword sinking it on the ground, her fists now at each side of her closed and the sword remained unmovable. Jonathan remained at a safe distance while Audrey and Gabriel rushed to her "I've known you all my life as my aunt Moira, so now tell me who are you? And why have you been lying to me?"

"I am your aunt... technically speaking" Moira shrugged, her lips pursued, her eyes diverted to the ground as she turned to the teenager.

"I want the truth" There was a strange venom and terminality on Valerie's words

"Valerie" The woman sighed, beginning to tangle her fingers together as her eyes scanned the cave, stopping on the water for a second longer than it had taken the to wander all over the place. "For what it's worth, I am your aunt, have always been, and if you want so I'll always be. That is one part of the truth, and if I didn't share the other it's because I never thought it would come out to this, many generations of Pendragons passed, I never thought it would be you. I was going to tell you about my powers when you turned eighteen; as you can see, that didn't work out quite as expected"

Morgana then, sat on the ground, legs crossed, inviting everyone to do the same as her with a movement of the hand, the group walked until everyone was sitting on a circle with the legs crossed, Merlin was sitting at Morgana's left while Valerie sat in front of her, Jonathan and Audrey at each side of Valerie, Morgana's blue eyes shone bright as she muttered words in a language Valerie couldn't understand. Her eyes where bright for a second until she blinked for a couple times and a couple of figures made of dirt lift from the ground almost as tall as Barbie dolls.

"I'll begin from the end, and this is a long story, so please wait until I'm done and I'll answer all of your questions" Morgana began and like puppets, the figures bowed to everyone before taking the shape of two knights, one taller than the other. The figures moved, taking a fighting stance holding their swords against each other, like a choreographed dance.

"When Arthur and Mordred fought against each other, me and Merlin had been led to assume it would mean their demise. I was nearby the end of the battle when I heard the last words Mordred spoke, he promised that he would return one day when Arthur was gone. I was the one to take Arthur's dying body and left Mordred there believing those were nothing but the meaningless words of a dying man." The figures followed Morgana's words, what Valerie assumed was Mordred's figure faded on the ground and a third one raised, with a dress and the hair, tied down, the clear shape of curls on the head.

"The other fairies and I completed the ritual. I thought everything was going to be as fine as it could be, I still had issues to solve, like attending sweet Aethel's coronation, preparing the kingdom and dealing with the mourning. Except, the first night after I returned, I had a dream when an Elder showed herself to me. Now, you need to comprehend this; for my people, an Elder appearing to you is no small thing, normally you have to look for them to get their council, they have lived for a long time and have access to things very few possess, one of them is the ability to see into the future.

The Elder who told me a prophecy that said "The man who is meant to put an end to the coming of a reign of evil shall be born as the child of the land of the dead, the gladiolus shall bloom on their birthday. The name of a king shall be the father and the mother shall carry with honor the name of a queen", up until this I almost had already forgotten about Mordred's last words. I had to take this with the utmost seriousness, and with Merlin running away I was left to deal with this on my own. I didn't know when he was going to return so I took Arthur and Guinevere's daughter told her her life was in danger and she needed to hide. To do this, I took her with the family of a friend of mine who assured me she would be safe with them and said that I was free to be there as much as I pleased to be sure they were true to their word. I've remained with the family ever since, sometimes as a cousin, a sister, an aunt, whatever it took." Morgana explained, taking a deep breath and observing how the teenagers nearly seemed to hold their breaths.

"A few years later, I was helping Archfedd to take care of her children when I heard the rumor that Merlin was spotted on the woods near a lake. I went to look for him and tried to explain the situation, but he refused to listen. He told me to look for him years in the future, so I did. I found him again, locked in the inside of a tree, I pulled him out, and held him until I found this cave, and locked him in here as you saw, and placed an enchantment on the sword, as you could read it. If you found the sword Valerie, it only means we need to prepare, we might have to fight a battle that should have been over centuries ago"

The figures took a final bow to their small audience and knelt in front of Valerie before collapsing on the ground.

"Why me?" Valerie raised her voice, eyes open as she pointed at herself. "Just because someone said so?"

"The sightseeing magic is something that shows up as the consequence of a decision taken, and it often shows up as a picture left for interpretation, many people have gotten it wrong for this very reason" Merlin explained, "It's not because someone said so, you silly girl, it's because the choices taken before you led to this very moment"

"Please hand me the sword, Valerie" Morgana said, Valerie handed her the sword doubtful, watching as the eyes of the woman she knew as her aunt shone bright once again and the sword shrank to take the shape of a silver bracelet. Morgana handed it to Valerie, who took it with a frown.

"I know walking around with a sword is a little outdated nowadays, all you have to do is hold the bracelet in your hand and the sword should come out"

"Who told you I was going to keep the sword? I don't want to fight this. All I want is to get home and have time to think about the fact that I have been lied to my entire life"

"I can't understand what you're feeling, but please Valerie, keep the bracelet. You might need it sometime, and I can't let you go around unprotected, at least until Jonathan gains control over his powers"

"How do you know?" Jonathan's voice stood out.

"Of course I knew! You didn't think I wouldn't realize there is a little magical three-year-old boy hanging around my niece, did you?" Morgana shrugged, smiling proud of herself, Jonathan looked at his shoes "I thought it was a coincidence at first, of all the kids it was certainly strange that Valerie had managed to befriend the only kid with dormant magical powers in the neighborhood. We should have begun your training sooner, but maybe Merlin can help you, his methods are strange, but they work" Merlin scrunched his nose.

"What happens if I don't want any training?" Valerie looked at Jonathan trebling and knew right away why he was afraid, his fingers fidgeting over the ground.

"You will grow in power and if you don't learn how to control it it'll leak into your life until you lose entire control of them and they kill you" Merlin sentenced. His eyes glowed green and a figure showed in the air, glowing, and resembling a man that vanished making frantic gestures before appearing once again "Or best case scenario your life become messy and unpredictable. I should mention it might involve nightmare crawling out of your dreams without you noticing until it's too late, lighting someone up for accident when you try to light on the candle in your bedroom" Merlin sentenced, his eyebrows furrowed. The figure moving at his words like Morgana's had

Jonathan remained quiet. Eyes focused on the floor, hands still fidgeting until Valerie put one hand above his arm, this didn't do much to calm him. Instead, he smiled her way.

"I know when you were a child someone took away your favorite flower and you've been bitter ever since, but there is no need to be like that with the poor kid. No one has heard of magic in generations, give them time to process" Morgana intertwined, smiling sympathetic to the teenager. She tried to look at Valerie, but she diverted her gaze and instead focused on the floor and the bracelet that she had locked around her wrist.

"Where do Gabriel and I come in this?" Audrey raised an eyebrow. Her words strong and confident "Because if everything you said it's truth...

"And it is. You might be surprised, but I have no reason to lie to all of you, Mr. Runaway here should be the one to be afraid."

"...Then it must not be a coincidence that Gabriel and I showed here with them"

Valerie watched how Merlin opened his eyes and slowly nodded. Morgana rolled her eyes and approached the girl, taking a deep breath, placing one finger on Audrey's forehead and another on the back of her neck. Her eyes glowed blue for a few seconds before she took her hand away from the teenager. She stared at her. Her eyes scanning the teenager as if she was watching her for the first time.

"A knight runs in your family" Morgana assured. Audrey perked up shoulders back, in her lips the faint trace of a smile. "Do you want to see?" She turned to Gabriel who shook his head and scrunched his nose.

"I'm good." He shrugged; Morgana nodded returning to where she was sitting before.

Silence fell upon the group, the teenagers were standing close to each other as if they were friends who saw each other after many years of lost contact. Valerie stared at her bracelet, clasping it and unclasping it over and over again, unsure of what to do next. Audrey was by her side, noticing her lack of response.

"Mordred" Valerie meditated for a second "Is he looking for me?" All eyes turned to Morgana.

"I wouldn't know" She admitted, Valerie sighed, the bracelet on her wrist remained clasped.

"I'll head home" Valerie murmured lifting from the ground, her friends followed her in silent agreement, she turned her back on the two adults on the cave standing under the light. The hole above the cave showed her that it was still dark outside. Valerie took as many things as she could in her hands and before parting, she looked behind herself for a second, turning her eyes to her the woman she had always known as her aunt. "Will you be coming?"

The woman shook her head.

"I'll stay" She spoke, her eyes glowed and an orb of light showed in front of the teenagers "This will guide you to Gabriel's car and keep you safe. I'll see you home in a few hours, I have something I need to catch up on" Her eyes focused on Merlin as she spoke, the man's lips lifted up revealing the soft trace of a smile as the teenagers left the cave.
