Chapter 6
Loki POV
Y/N didn't treat me like the girls back at the palace treated me; not with fear or an annoyingly flirtatious manner, but with kindness. Even though she had a crippling problem, she still made the most of her life.
We sat next to the river, and she explained her life vividly to me. She was born in the house she lives in now and grew up as an innocent little kid who didn't know that blindness was so socially unacceptable. When she went to school, she was bullied for being blind and could hardly cope with the schoolwork. Then a new girl, Alista, straight from the 'townsfolk', came to her school. This girl was shunned because of the old rivalry between the 'townsfolk' and the rural Asgardians. Y/N became her friend, and they were very close.
Then, Y/N's friend moved back to the 'townsfolk'. Y/N was left on her own again. She struggled through her schoolwork but spent every bit of spare time with her family or at the river here, which she called the sǫngr elfr.
Then a boy moved to the area from the elf planet. His name was Reids.
Reids saw the raw pain in Y/N and decided to take advantage of it. He befriended her and charmed her to become his girlfriend. The relationship was short, but it did what Reids wanted it to do. It boosted his social status, ensuring him a beautiful, non-blind girlfriend.
Finally, she finished school and was free. Her father taught her how to sing in old Norse, and how to do basic magic like healing and light spells. She was very close to him.
She skipped over the part where he died; only saying that the thing that killed him was the same thing that almost killed her friend and mentor, Palik.
Palik was an old man that she found in the forest, covered from head to toe in scars and open wounds. She heard his groaning, and she somehow made her way through the tightly knit forest to him. She carried him slowly back home, and alerted her brother to help her. Together, they brought him up the hill so that her mother could give Palik medical treatment.
After he recovered, Palik was in Y/N's debt. He vowed to do something for her, and she asked him to help her fight. She demonstrated by sparring with me, and even though I won, she exceeded expectations and was as good as any guard at the palace.
I was surprised that Y/N could fight, and how good she was at knowing her surroundings. But some of the things she could do was beyond a regular person's abilities. I guessed that this 'Palik' had some sort of magic that aided her.
Palik told her that a beast attacked him, but he was able to place a couple of wounds on its body. It left, and Palik was all alone, where Y/N found him.
Y/N decided to search for the beast.
It found her.
And her father, who followed her that eventful day, sacrificed himself for her survival.
Her family were devastated. No one blamed her, but I guessed that she blamed herself heavily. Living with that must have been more painful than any blindness. But she fought through it, learning to be quicker and better, and able, for the first time, to farm.
I told her of my past; the bullying, the constantly being in my brother's shadow, my mother's kindness, and my father's rage. I left out some details; that I was a prince and that I was a murderer who went to earth to kill. I didn't want to frighten my... friend...away.
