The Making of…
Chapter 32
Revelations...
I met the guys in the car park in the early evening, and Raven turned up soon after. The studio was within walking distance of a bar that the guys had grown quite fond of, so that was where we were headed for the evening. Raven pretty much stuck to me for the first few minutes, but after a while I got her into a conversation with Sean, and I fell back in the group to chat to the others. We were a smaller group than usual; Peter had kidnapped Elijah and Sean to go do some Frodo and Sam night filming, and it appeared that Karl had caught ‘Man-Flu’ from someone on the airplane, and so was dramatically bedridden (I’d left him with a pile of DVD’s and a takeaway menu, so he was probably fine)! So it was just Billy, Dom, Orlando, Sean, Viggo, Raven and I. We reached the bar quickly and Billy, Dom and Orlando instantly scurried off to socialize. The place was pretty much packed with people and we had to fight through the crowd to find a table. I got bumped around by a few people who were jostling to get to the bar and Viggo had to grab my wrist and physically pull me out of the crowd.
“Thanks.” I breathed, sitting down beside him at the table and leaving Sean and Raven to sit opposite us. We talked for a while, and I found out that Raven was living in New Zealand trying to get a job as a journalist, but had somehow ended up interviewing us to gain more experience! As the night went on the bar began to clear of people as they were probably heading to the clubs near the centre of Wellington.
“Do you want to go up and get some drinks?” I asked Raven, nodding towards the bar. She stood and followed me and we perched ourselves on the barstools whilst we waited for our drinks.
“Thanks for inviting me out, this is really fun.” She smiled.
“No problem!” I grinned, “You and Sean seem to be getting along well.” I commented sneakily. I’d noticed that they’d been talking all night, and I was pretty sure that there was something there… Like, 99.9% sure. Raven blushed and smiled a little.
“Yeah, he’s really great.” She mumbled into her drink.
“Aha! I knew it!” I grinned victoriously, “You like him!”
“W-well I… Uh…” She stammered nervously as I bounced on my seat.
“Go on, tell me!” I begged for more information as she smiled a little.
“Well… I guess he’s always, kind of been my favourite actor…” She mumbled, “And when I was interviewing him today he was nicer than I ever could have imagined…” She trailed off as I squealed with delight.
“That is so cute!” I squeaked.
“Ssh! He’ll hear you!” She quickly cast a nervous glance over to where Viggo and Sean were sitting talking. I followed her gaze and Viggo glanced up and I smiled at him, he smiled back before I looked away. “Ok, what was that?” Raven asked.
“Huh?”
“That look between you and Viggo.”
“What look?”
“That look.”
“There wasn’t a ‘look’!” I protested, now blushing.
“There totally was.” She smirked.
“You’re just trying to divert the subject away from you and Sean.” I huffed, folding my arms.
“No I’m not! I just thought I saw something there between you two.” She said as I scowled.
“There’s nothing there.” I assured her.
“Are you sure?”
Her question startled me and I glanced up, frowning a little as she continued, “I know you’ve been telling everyone that you aren’t going out, but are you sure there’s nothing going on there?” She looked at me questioningly as I sighed and rested my elbow on the bar, and my head on that hand.
“I don’t know…” I sighed, playing with one of the coasters that were sitting on the bar.
“Well, do you have feelings for him?” Raven pressed on as I exhaled heavily.
“I don’t know.” I repeated, pretending to be intensely interested in whatever the little cardboard coaster was advertising.
“Do you think he likes you?”
“I don’t know.”
“Oh for goodness sake…” She muttered, snapping her fingers in front of my face to grab my attention. “Whatdo you know then?”
“I don’t know...” I moaned into my hand, as she sighed.
“C’mon Kira, I told you about me and Sean, you owe me some info!”
“Really?” I muttered sceptically.
“Really.”
“Well I haven’t really thought about it that much…” I mumbled.
“Well think about it now.” She urged me as I sighed and gathered my thoughts.
“I suppose Viggo’s probably my closest friend… So yeah, I do like him, but I don’t know how much I like him.” I began, “And I don’t know whether he likes me in that way… Sometimes I think he might, and then other times he just acts like a friend.”
“Do you want him to like you in that way?” Raven asked, putting her interviewing skills to good use.
“I don’t really know…” I sighed, “Sometimes I do, other times I’m telling myself to wise up. I mean, nothing good can come from dating a co-star. Hypothetically speaking, if we did go out, and then broke up before the end of filming, it would just be so awkward. I mean, I have to kiss him a lot in the next few months.” I bit my lip and cast a quick glance over to where Viggo was sitting. I thought I saw him glance at me, but I quickly turned back.
“And what if you didn’t break up? What if you ended up in a really great relationship?”
“Psh, with my luck? No way.” I scoffed. “I have a terrible track record of relationships. Any guy I like turns out to be a massive jerk.”
“Yeah, but you like Viggo. Do you really think he’d turn out to be a massive jerk?” Raven raised an eyebrow at me.
“No! Of course not! Viggo’s the nicest guy I’ve ever met-”
“So what’s the harm in admitting that you have feelings for him?” She cut me off and I blushed furiously.
“Because I’m scared of ruining our friendship.” I answered in a whisper.
***Viggo’s Point of View – A Few Minutes Back***
“That is so cute!” I heard Kira cry loudly before she was hushed by Raven. I looked up at where they were talking by the bar and Kira glanced up and smiled at me. My breath caught in my throat for a moment before I smiled back and she turned away.
“Hey Viggo? Vig!” Sean called, waving his hand in front of my face and dragging me back to our conversation.
“Huh?” I mumbled, blinking in confusion.
“What is with you tonight?” He muttered grumpily.
“Nothing,” I assured him, “What were we talking about?”
“It doesn’t matter.” He sighed, “You were totally out of it anyway.”
“Sorry, you have my full attention now. What were you saying?” I asked as he turned back to me.
“Well I was trying to ask you about whether or not I should ask Raven out, but you weren’t listening.”
“Go for it. She seems nice.” I nodded, looking back up to where the two girls were talking. Kira had her head resting on her hand now. I studied her expression as she played with a coaster. She seemed a little exasperated and-
“There you go again.” Sean grumbled, folding his arms and distracting me from my train of thought.
“Huh?”
“You weren’t paying attention.”
“Yeah I was.” I protested.
“You weren’t, you were staring at Kira.” He frowned.
“No I wasn’t.”
“Yeah you were. You haven’t been able to take your eyes off her all night.” He pointed out as I stared at the table. “What’s going on between you two?”
“Nothing’s going on.” I shrugged, trying to act nonchalant, whilst my head was screaming ‘Liar’ at me.
“Oh come on Vig!” Sean cried, “The second she walks into the same room you’re in, you just tune out and stare at her!”
“I don’t.” I muttered.
“Don’t deny it. You mightn’t be able to see it, but everyone else can.”
“See what? There’s nothing going on between me and Kira. I just… notice things about her. That’s all.” I replied vaguely, hoping he wouldn’t press the subject further.
“What kind of things?”
“Just little things.”
“What little things?” He asked. I sighed and ran one hand through my hair.
“Things like… I don’t know… Her smile.” I shrugged, glancing up at her again. She wasn’t smiling right now; she was biting her lower lip. Her eyes flickered up and met mine, before I looked away again quickly.
“Yeah she smiles a lot. What’s the big deal?” Sean asked and I frowned a little.
“It’s the way she smiles.” I explained, “She has so many different ones…” I trailed off as my eyes darted back to her, watching her lips move as she spoke. I couldn’t decipher her words, but still watched in fascination.
“You know what it means when you start noticing stuff like that?” Sean asked as I sat back in my seat.
“What?”
“It means you have feelings for her.” He explained slowly, as if I was a child. I frowned and tilted my head back so I was staring at the ceiling.
“Yeah I know…” I admitted with a sigh, “I thought I was hiding it well though…”
“You weren’t.” He retorted as I looked at him again and raised an eyebrow.
“Thanks.” I muttered.
“So are you going to ask her out?” He asked, as I leant my elbows on the table and knitted my fingers together.
“You want me to ask her out?” I frowned at him over my hands.
“Why not?” He shrugged, as if it was the simplest thing in the world to do. “Do you think she likes you?”
“I don’t know…” I muttered.
“I think she does.” He pointed out as I raised an eyebrow.
“Y’ think?”
“Well she obviously cares about you a lot, but sometimes you just can’t tell when it comes to girls…” He frowned and I sighed. No wonder us guys were stereotyped as non-emotional dolts.
“Well that was helpful.” I mumbled sarcastically, catching Kira smiling out of the corner of my eye.
“I think you should just ask her out. I mean, what’s the worst that could happen?” He asked and I frowned.
“Well I could quite possibly ruin our friendship forever and lose one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met – but apart from that, I don’t think anything too bad could happen.” I replied, heavily laying on the sarcasm.
“Fair enough, but what else do you intend to do, Einstein?” Sean replied with an equal dollop of sarcasm.
“I don’t know…” I groaned, burying my head in my hands. “I’m falling for her and I’m too scared to do anything about it.”
“Tough break man.” He muttered, glancing to the side as I sensed someone approach us.
“Vig? Are you ok?” I looked up to see Kira standing over me with concern plastered across her face. To be fair, I probably looked like a total wreck.
“Yeah.” I smiled as she sat down beside me again and Sean gave me a sympathetic look, but was quickly distracted when Raven sat beside him. Not long after that, Orlando, Dom and Billy appeared again, and we decided to head back to the studio. It was pretty late anyway, and I noticed Kira starting to yawn beside me. As we walked out of the bar onto the dark street outside, Orlando told us about the plans he and the others had been making to go to the beach tomorrow, as it was our last day before we got back to filming. Everyone readily agreed and then Sean announced that he was going to walk Raven back to her hotel. He seemed rather pleased with himself and as they walked off in the opposite direction I caught sight of them holding hands. How the hell can he be so forward?
“Those two are adorable.” Kira commented as we walked and I glanced at her.
“How did he win her over so quickly?” I muttered half to myself.
“It’s the impeccable British charm.” She smirked, “It wins pretty much everyone over – apart from British girls, we’re immune to it.” I smiled at her as we passed beneath a streetlight and the orange glow illuminated her face as she smiled to herself. Sean was right; I couldn’t take my eyes off her. There was just something about her that drew me in, but I couldn’t explain what it was… I watched as she talked to the others about going to the beach tomorrow as I trailed along behind the group, and then she turned to me and smiled, grabbing my hand and pulling me along so I caught up. Her touch was like an electric shock pulsing through my body. Did she realise the effect she had on me? Would she ever know? Probably not, unless I could pluck up the courage to tell her how I really felt sometime soon…
