18: We Shatter Like Glass
(So I heard the manga ended. Kinda creepy how close canon is to what I have planned, specifically regarding math, which I won't be explaining. 💀 Like, did I accidentally read Horikoshi's mind a while back? If I did, sorry man.)
.
"Iguchi... Why..? Why are you trying to kill (Y/n)...?"
Spinner picked himself up, tilting slightly as he looked at the other young man. There was no use in hiding that disgusted grimace of his. "You're kidding, right?"
"No?"
"Khhhh..." Dragging a hand through his pink hair, "Your friends are criminals, man. Both of them. (Y/n)'s a well-known figure in the underworld and Hoku's a soon-to-be drug lord. Stain and I caught both of them making deals to monopolize on a new drug that erases quirks." He pointed accusingly at you, to which you lowered your head. It really was inevitable that Tenny find out, wasn't it?
Tenko gasped. "(Y/n)???"
"You've heard about the Quirk Doomsday Theory?" Neither responded. "Well.. I personally think it's real... I never meant for that drug to be used to hurt anyone;"
"Yeah right."
"I wanted there to be a cure in the world for anyone with too terrible a quirk to control. Like a medicine! I kno-ow it looks bad, but you need to trust me, Tenny!"
"No! Don't trust her!"
"I'm trying to save people!" You stepped forward, but Iguchi stuck his arm out to stop you from getting any closer to Tenko. The two of you started pushing on each other, fighting for Tenko's attention.
"Hasn't (Y/n) lied to you enough?! trust ME!"
"Iguchi's 'job' for years was winning fights illegally!"
"YOU only know that because you did the EXACT SAME THING!"
"IGUCHI'S WORKING WITH THE HERO KILLER, STAIN! HE'S KILLED AT LEAST SIX HEROES BY THIS POINT!"
"THOSE WERE ALL FAKES WHO DESERVED IT! TEN- (Y/N) HAS KILLED SO MANY MORE PEOPLE! AND SHE STOPPED ME FROM FREEING SLAVES!"
"ONLY BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT MADE ME, D###IT! I WANTED TO FREE THEM TOO! I DIDN'T WANT TO KILL ANYONE!" Even Iguchi glanced at you a tad concerned. Oh wait. Did he not know about that last part?
Tenko was in tears. No surprise there. Both of his closest friends were bringing each other's dark pasts into the light before him. Suddenly, that wholesome, loving friend group he loved so much...broke apart at his fingertips.
"Please tell me you're joking... Guys..?"
You and Iguchi stepped apart and glanced at one another. You both sighed and stared at the ground.
"...No."
"...No."
Iguchi then walked up to and grabbed Tenko's shoulders. Staring deep into his eyes, "Listen man, this hero society is rotten to its core. The faster you realize that, the better.. Join me. You want to make a difference, right?? Join Stain and I! You'll see just how corrupt this world is, and then you can help us fix it."
Tenko took a few steps back, slowly shaking his head. He was pale, eyes void of emotion but wide with shock. "...No." he breathed. "No, I don't WANT to kill people you kill people; I don't WANT to kill heroes!! Even if they are secretly villains! I WON'T help you!!" Against Iguchi's silent pleading, Tenko would NOT change his mind.
It was clear the moment Spinner snapped that he had had enough of this. He corrected his posture. "Fine then. Be ignorant all you want... But I'm not leaving here without completing my mission first, and I WILL fight back if you try to stop me."
"From what?"
Iguchi turned and started striding toward you. You dropped into a lower, ready to run stance. "Uh-oh."
Shwoosh!
What would have been instant death turned into Tenko grabbing Iguchi from behind, holding him back. "IGUCHI, THERE ARE OTHER WAYS TO DEAL WITH THIS! (Y/N), FLY OR TELEPORT OUT OF HERE!"
"I DON'T HAVE ANY QUIRKS!"
"NO THERE ISN'T!"
"JUST RUN, (Y/N)! AND WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE ISN'T ANOTHER WAY?!"
Heeding Tenko's words, you bolted toward the nearest flight of stairs, which hid in the shadows. Once you were out of their blast zone, Tenko and Iguchi started brawling for real!!
Running up the once working escalators was a painfully long and draining task. Even climbing two steps at a time, you weren't fast enough.
As the boys fought, they continued their moral debate about the right way to deal with criminals. They slammed each other into walls, jumped off ledges so fast the concrete behind them crumbled, and tore down pillars one after another. You were on the second floor looking for the next flight of stairs when suddenly there was a loud CRACK at the top of the structure. You stopped and leaned over the glass railings, gasping. Some idiot'd gotten himself smashed through the ceiling next to the huge, circular pane of glass! That about did it. That and the wounds already within the structure tore the whole roof down. Ironically, the glass itself never broke even after falling eight stories and hitting the ground. In-after flooded the whole river! Within seconds, the first floor was flooded.
"Ga-ah-ah-ah!" You kicked into a higher gear than ever before to race up the next stairs! No need to worry about fatigue now! It was climb or die!!
Your heart was thumping in your chest, vision a hazy mess. It was dark enough in here! Why, eyes, why!?
Right as you reached the next stairs, a massive wave washed you away from it. You hadn't the strength to fight it, and were pushed and pulled toward the ledge. The splashing was too wild here. You couldn't imagine yourself succeeding! The roaring waterfall would only drown if you if you hung around here for too long! As water crept onto the third floor, you searched for a sign. Aha! There, above one of the hallway doors was a sign pointing to an emergency exit! You ran, slipped, fell, splashed, cursed, got up, and ran again. Opening the door, however, only allowed in even more gushing water! Frick! You were cornered and these waves were starting to grow in strength and size! The water was already up to your knees!!
-----
Two shadows landed on the nearest roof to the gaping hole that was eating up all the water.
"Frosty, divert as much water from the hole as you can!!" Hawks gave the order, jumping down to swoop nearer.
"For the last time, it's NOT FROSTY! GHHH!" The angry hooded one obeyed regardless, throwing up his hands and forcing the water nearest the hole to freeze. He was fighting against an endless flow of water, which constantly bashed and tore apart his icy barriers. Even after he created working pathways for the water to flow through instead, it was a stubborn element. Became obvious after a while of struggling that this current wouldn't be tamed. "THE BEST I CAN DO IS SLOW IT DOWN!" Iceman shouted to the blond.
"I SEE THAT!" Hawks entered the pit and immediately began to assess the damage. He tapped his earpiece. "Hawks to Commander. You awake yet?!" Nothing but radio silence. "D###it! Of all the times for her to go to sleep, she chooses now!" He'd just have to be angry about their president's negligence later. Several dozen feathers of his deployed and split, scanning the area for anyone trapped inside. If he heard correctly, (Y/n) was in here. But, the likelihood she'd already escaped was high. After all, she was the stronge--!
"HAWKS, SAVE (Y/N)!!!" Tenko screamed from a lower floor. Immediately after, he dodged another attack from Iguchi. The dark haired one was looking a little scraped up from their fight already.
"YOU SAYING SHE'S STILL DOWN HERE?!"
"SHE LOST HER QUIRK! PLEASE! FIND HER!"
Keigo gasped, eyes wide with genuine fear. His wings twitched, deploying even more feathers to continue the search. All while the fight between two overpowered teenagers raged below. Ah! He found her on the third floor holding onto a swinging door for dear life! All feathers were called back as he dove. He stopped just above the crushing waterfall and slipped in through the small crack of air that remained. He waved through corridors. Even with his back almost scraping the ceiling, the waves threatened to dampen his wings. At last he reached the shop you had taken shelter in. What was left of the walls and doors had fended off enough of the water that it was a tad shallower in here.
"(Y/N)!!!" Came a familiar voice. Squinting, you just barely saw some kind of winged shape. Seconds later, an arm wrapped around your back. "(Y/N), HOLD ONTO ME!" He was forced to shout over the current. You didn't respond. As if deaf, you didn't even move. "(Y/N), HURRY!" You were frozen with fear. This was it. You were going to die here. It didn't matter what anybody did, you were doomed and you deserved it.
Hawks grabbed you and pried you from the door, but by the time he managed that the doorframes were fully blocked by water. "####!" He desperately searched for another way, but there WAS none. This room was a total dead end! But there was a chance to prolong your lives still.
Mid-coughing and wheezing, you were plucked out of the water and thrown into a floating crate. It was like one of those pickup truck attachments meant for carrying fishing equipment. Except these ones in particular were closer to coffin-size; made for boats out at sea. Some of Hawks' feathers kept the thing from capsizing as he too jumped in and sealed the lid shut from the inside. The two of you laid in waiting as the whole room was filled with water. Thankfully, the box was waterproof and sealed tight.
A troubling position you'd been thrown into. Your dad would not approve. "U- uh- er- uh..." Keigo shifted a bit, trying with all his might not to nudge your- um. You rolled onto your side, facing the dark wall. Keigo happily sighed as he fell into place, his back against yours.
You could still feel the rushing water through the container. You couldn't see. You couldn't think. You could hardly even hear there was so much water in your ears! You coughed some liquid you'd accidentally inhaled and shivered down to your core. Absolutely every inch of you was covered in wet. There was no escaping it. Opposite of what he expected, you started to hyperventilate after things had quieted down. "Tsch! Hey! Conserve oxygen! The closest water oriented heroes are based an hour away! If we preserve what we have, we can last-!"
"I DON'T CARE! I DON'T CARE! LET ME OUT!" You banged on the wall. Keigo reached back and grabbed a fist full of your shirt.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! WE NEED THIS BOX!"
"I- I CAN'T STAND IT! I'M GOING TO DIE IF I'M IN HERE ANOTHER SECOND!"
"NO YOU'RE NOT! SHUT THE HELL UP!" But you did not shut the hell up. You continued to wail and cry incoherent thoughts. And as the painful sobs left your throat, Keigo realized this wasn't stupidity. This was genuine, traumatized terror.
Eventually, you reached the point where you hoarsely repeated "let me out let me out let me out" over and over again. Those being your only thoughts.
"Hey.." Keigo's tone softened. He reached back and petted your side. "You're not going to die in here."
"If not me then who?" You whined. "Who's gunna die instead?"
"...Nobody is." You curled into as much of a ball as you could, accidentally crushing Keigo's wings against his back. "He-hey!"
You ignored him, desperately trying and failing not to hyperventilate! You knew the importance of preserving oxygen! In your mind, you knew! But, your body wasn't listening. It was filled with pain. Pain in your joints. And cold. Crushing cold.
If things continued this way, you'd swallow up all the oxygen in here and kill you both.
-----
The river currents calmed as the hole was filled to the top. Iceman dropped his arms in disappointment. He huffed, wondering if he should continue to fight for your lives or not. After all, he was just a puppet to this organization. If he let Hawks and especially YOU die, he could get away with deserting a whole lot easier.
Everyone held their breath. Every citizen standing around the site, every dog and every rat. An uncanny silence. The people were in shock, wondering if this was really the end.
Pt.... CRASH!
The mountain of ice splintered into a hundred pieces as a dark figure rocketed into the sky. Another shot through the rushing water that carried the ice chunks away, following the first.
The rushing air threw his frigid clothes around, some strands of hair glued to his face while others were blown dry in an instant. Tenko opened his eyes, seeing nothing but a dark starry sky.
Iguchi grabbed ahold of Tenko and the two began to wrestle, fighting over who would kick who into the ground. Tenko's voice was breaking, cold and distraught as he was. "IGUCHI, WHY WOULD YOU EVEN THINK KILLING HEROES IS OKAY?! CORRUPT OR NOT, THEY'RE STILL SAVING PEOPLE!"
"BECAUSE ALL MIGHT WAS THE ONLY REAL HERO, AND HE'S DEAD! WHAT'S THE POINT IN LETTING THE SYSTEM STAND WHEN IT'S DOING NOTHING!! WE CAN TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES! WE DON'T NEED A MAN IN A LEOTARD TO TELL EVERYONE THEY'RE SAFE! WE'RE NOT SAFE! NO HERO CAME TO SAVE ME WHEN I NEEDED ONE MOST! NO HERO EVEN TRIED TO TELL PEOPLE NOT TO PEPPER SPRAY ME EVERY TIME I WENT OUTSIDE! I WAS A KID, TENKO! WHAT REAL HERO WATCHES A CHILD GET ATTACKED AND DOESN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT!?"
"BUT I SAVED YOU AND I'M A HERO!"
"YOU'RE NOT ALL MIGHT AND YOU NEVER WILL BE!!"
Tenko's eyes widened, the sting of pain growing in his heart.
Iguchi continued, regretting it as he spoke. Not because he didn't believe what he was saying, but... "YOU MAY HAVE A LOT OF COOL QUIRKS, BUT YOU'RE TOO MUCH OF A COWARD TO PUT THEM TO ANY GOOD USE! YOU KEEP FORGIVING (Y/N) NO MATTER WHAT SHE DOES BECAUSE YOU'RE TOO SCARED TO DO ANYTHING ON YOUR OWN! YOU'RE SLOW TO ACT, YOU AVOID NEW THINGS, AND DON'T QUESTION ANYTHING! YOU NEVER EVEN STOPPED TO THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU REALLY WANTED TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T WANT TO LOOK LIKE A WIMP WHO GAVE UP! AND EVEN NOW YOU NEVER QUESTION THE SYSTEM AND FOLLOW ORDERS MINDLESSLY BECAUSE YOU'RE TOO SCARED TO THINK FOR YOURSELF AND TAKE RISKS!! I LOVE YOU BUT YOU ANNOY THE #### OUT OF ME!"
"ALRIGHT, I GET IT! NOW SHUT THE #### UP!"
Spinner finally won the match. In their descent, Iguchi launched off of Tenko, sending the teen into the ground.
Crunch!!
Iceman blinked. What was he doing just standing around here?? He may not be the most morally upstanding individual, but he knew better than to let an inspiring hero like Hawks die!
"HAWKS!" The young man hopped off the roof onto a platform of ice. Hastily, he drifted toward the dark abyss lurking below the river. Though he was already tired, he tried again by strategically freezing certain parts of the river to form a webbing of sorts. In the middle, he created a pillar of ice and hollowed it out. Ghh. Really wished there were two of him right now. The ice was melting a lot faster than he liked. It would be hard to maintain while also tunneling through the mall in search for the winged hero...
Not to mention Hawks might already be dead... He couldn't just give up, even though that possibility was very, very likely.
-----
"I'm sorry about my tone earlier..." Keigo mumbled, face pressed against the plastic wall since he was still technically being shoved into it. You were still hyperventilating like a captured rabbit. "I'm scared too. I have so much left to live for after all. So would you please calm down?"
"I'm TRY-ING d###it!" You bit your lip, hugging yourself tightly as you could. You were shivering and shaking terribly, both from the cold and the fear. Your jaw clattered as you opened it to speak. "I- I- I- I wz- was trapped under the ocean once..."
"Huh? First time I'M hearing about it."
"I was fifteen..." Out of courtesy, you gave Hawks some more space so he wouldn't be quite as smashed. "...It was so cold. N- n dark n- I- I-" you gagged. "Couldn't breathe, but I couldn't die either, so I just kept choking!"
"Wait.. fifteen? You're talking about that fight when All Might died?! Heard you were there, but, d###.."
"...Yeah... I couldn't do anything but listen to the loud, explosive punches..." Your voice has quieted so much, breathing not quite so fast as before. But you were still trembling. "H'd t' cut my limbs off t' save myself... Cause if not th'n I'd be stuck down there for who KNOWS how long! Sorry... Th's why I'm...freaking out now... M' not trying to steal all your oxygen."
Hawks chuckled halfheartedly. "Hey, it's yours too."
"Heh..." Your eyes opened, though useless, it sure felt like you were seeing something new. "...I guess." Though much quieter now, it was still obvious how shaken up you were. It wasn't like some external force was forcing your body to gag and tremble like this. It was more like...when reminded of that time, and other times like it, your body immediately began to prepare for the worse; remembering pain, revisiting old memories; all for the sake of hopefully not hurting as much as you were before. Holding your eyes open, you started to cry. It truly was a terrible thing. No matter what you tried, or how strong you became...you always ended up back here. "M' so cold..."
Behind you, Hawks started to wiggle around. Then, "Here. It's not the dryest, but it's better than nothing." He offered you his jacket. Your breaths were still short and shallow as you took it. You wrapped the fluffy garment around your shoulders, hiding your face in its softness. Heh, smelled like him. Keigo leaned his back against yours and laid his wings over you as well. You, in your shivering, finally started to calm down. You listened to the other's breathing until your own matched. Though a little colder than he was before, the guy started to relax as well. Even though you were quirkless, he always, somehow, felt a just a little bit safer when he was around you. He only started to panic earlier, because he was so used to you having everything under control. At least...physically. He knew a little too well, especially now, just how utterly broken you were inside.
"Now you're shivering." You remarked. The guy hadn't even noticed. You rolled over onto your other side and pulled the other even closer so you could wrap a little bit of the jacket around him as well. "..Is this okay?"
"Y-you're asking now??" He could tell just how much calmer you'd gotten from simply turning around. He stretched his wings into a more comfortable position and sighed. "Yeah, I guess."
You hugged the other a little tighter and nuzzled your nose into his hair. "Thanks..." Keigo's heart started to pick up pace and he silently praying for you not to notice. "...Why have you been ignoring me for so long, by the way?"
"...Um."
---------------
Iceman, or Geten, broke through the water's surface, gasping for air. The river currents carried him and his chunks of ice downstream. The teen groaned, too tired to fight the current as much as he had before. He both physically and power-wise was reaching his limits. Wasn't even sure he could continue like this. The river was proving to be a much tougher opponent than expected, and he was starting to get a little cold, which really only happened when he exerted himself. He aimed his paddling for the nearest shore, but once he reached it for some odd reason he was struggling to grab ahold of anything solid. His hands were too weak. The young man realized a little too late he might just need saving too.
"He.. help! A-anyone?!" The nearby city streets were all but empty. Hardly anyone stood around anymore. And those who did were drunk and useless. "HEY! Hey, somebody!!" The mossy rock suddenly grabbed his slipping hand. "Huh??" He was held in place, trapped!
"Hold on a second." A man with short brown hair stepped off the concrete bridge. He approached nonchalantly, eventually extending a gloved hand the young man's way. Geten grabbed on, and the man's other hand touched the ground to remove the rock from his other hand. Together, the two pulled Geten free from the river.
"Thanks." The younger one mumbled, immediately taking off his coat. All the water in his clothes and hair turned to frost, which he started to dust off of him in a hurry, making himself dry.
"What's the situation?"
"What?"
"I received a call from someone a little over forty minutes ago that (Y/n) was in trouble over here."
"(Y/n)?... Oh, wait do you mean (H/n)?"
"Yeah."
"Yeahhhh, she's probably dead by now."
"WHAT?"
Geten casually pointed up river. "The mall flooded about twenty minutes ago and neither her or Hawks have appeared since... They were trapped inside. I've been trying to get them out, but, it's hard while also fighting the river."
The brunette stared at the ominous dark shape in the water for a while. He inhaled long and slow, then exhaled quick and sharp. "I'll help. My quirk is Overhaul. I can rearrange matter. I can strengthen and control your ice, then infuse it with concrete so it won't melt away so easily."
"That would actually be really helpful."
"Yeah, now let's hurry."
BANG!
Kai spun around, eyes on a half made building that'd just gotten cratered. "What was that??"
Geten sighed. "They've been at it for a while now. I keep wondering when one of them will finally kill the other, but both of them seem pretty strong. They're scaring all the citizens away, though." So in a way they were the ones responsible for Geten's struggle getting any help. "If I had to guess, I'd say they're fighting like two friends who don't really want to hurt each other."

CLACK
Metal beams fell over atop Tenko, which he narrowly dodged. Grabbing them with Black Whip, The teen spun and slammed the massive of metal into the other boy rocketing his way. Iguchi slammed into and dented a pillar of steel. Didn't take long however for him to crawl back up again. The rate at which he regenerated was impressive! Mere seconds after every blow, he was back to normal.
Tenko cursed as he was charged at again. He really needed a rest from all this! His body was throbbing all over from a mix of external and internal pains. He was pushing his quirks while also restraining them. After all, his goal was to stop Iguchi. Not kill him. But his friend wasn't making that easy. Like always, he NEVER held himself back. Cracked ribs, sprained ankle, bruised skull, and more. All these injuries a culminated into one terrible sensation. He wanted to give up really, really bad.
Every time he was forced to throw another punch at his friend, he could feel a part of himself break.
Iguchi bolted at Tenko. Luckily, Gear Shift was already active, allowing him to jump out of the way. Iguchi crushed the pillar behind him instead.
"I know you can do better, Ten!" The animorph growled.
"Can't we just... take a break?"
"You think this is like the Sports Festival?! Some kind of game!? Tenko, we're way beyond that; grow up!!" Tenny ducked out of the way of another blow. He was pushed further and further back through the construction site, pillars of steal dented and crushed by his attacker. Iguchi was so angry; fuming!! It was either you were with him or against him, and, well, Tenko wasn't with him, so..
Tenko's back foot slipped off the ledge. He wobbled, catching his balance, "woah!" There he stood at the edge of a forty foot drop. He could fly, he was fine! But, he was still cornered. For he faced he neither could nor wanted to defeat. All while Iguchi suffered the burns of losing another friend to the idiotic system of false heroism. They had both cried their hearts out to each other over what was right and wrong. They tried, genuinely tried to understand and in turn be understood. But, in the end, neither could agree. Both were stubborn in their morals while questioning them at the same time. It was either win or lose now.
"I know you can fly, so why are you acting so shocked?" Iguchi rolled his eyes while approaching. Tenko was panting, wheezing. His limbs were shaking from fatigue. He had no record of how long these two had been fighting, but he knew it musta been a hecka long while! The longest, most intensive battle he'd ever fought. Tenko rose his fists and lowered his stance. Wiped some blood from his nose and glared ahead.
Despite looking like he was about to pull a main character 1-80, his body said otherwise. Because as he and Iguchi were attacking again, his arm cramped up and he missed his punch.
Crunch!
Tenko was hit in the jaw and immediately blacked out. After Tenko dropped, Iguchi paused, his heart starting to shake.
"...Tenko?" He slid beside the other and felt for his pulse. Iguchi sighed. "Scared me there." While considering what to do with his friend's sleeping body now, a burst flame lit up what would have been the building's wall.
"SHIMURA!" Endeavor shouted from the other wall of flames. Iguchi stood to face it. That's when thick, steel-like cables jumped out from behind and bound the teen to the many steel beams surrounding him. A thin lanky figure grabbed Tenko from under Iguchi's nose.
The small team of heroes gathered on a nearby rooftop. Endeavor landed with a mighty thump. "Glad you two could join us."
"Anything for an ally."
"I just so happened to be in the area.✨"
Clink!
Clunk!
Snap!
"RRRAH!" Iguchi freed himself in no time and wasted no time jumping the gap to reach them. Edgeshot was the first to reach him and slam Spinner into the ground. Best Jeanist wasn't far behind, controlling the same cables as before to attempt to restrain the young fighter again. Endeavor watched from the rooftop, defending the fainted young man while also ready to jump in at any time.
After about a minute, Tenko blinked awake, sat up, and groggily rubbed his sore head. "Wh't...'s going on..?" Studying his clothing, he rightly assumed the fight with his friend was still going on. As Endeavor turned around and walked toward the young man, Tenko gasped. "Endeavor!. How's Hoku? Is Stain-?!"
Endeavor waved his hand passively. "-Don't worry about them. I defeated Stain; he's in custody right now. As for your friend, he's likely in hospital... Sorry for not coming sooner, but I had to wait for that guy's quirk to wear off." Even after he'd been affected by Stain's quirk, the hero was amazingly able to use deliberate bursts of fire to puppeteer his body and keep fighting. The flame hero now had a few rather nasty slice wounds on his chest, arms, and right brow, but overall he was alright and ready for battle.
"Hospital?? Oh no, what happened??"
"He should be fine. As for you, however." Endeavor crouched to pick and prod at some of the kid's injuries. "You might need to wait the rest of this fight out."
"No! I got it!!" I- I can-!"
"-How many are broken?"
Tenko's chin dropped. "...Maybe four or five." They were talking about bones btw.
"Hhh.." Endeavor stood up again. "Even though you have the firepower and raw strength to beat somebody doesn't mean you should. Using tactics to outsmart your opponent is just as valuable, maybe even moreso. Because, remember." The tall man glared strictly over his shoulder. "If a hero loses in a fight, there won't be anyone to save them." Tenko nodded timidly. "You're okay now. So stay out of this." The flame hero then jumped down from the rooftop to join the fray, better equalling the playing field. Tenko fought his headache to walk over to and sit at the edge of the building to watch.
'Think, Tenko, think!.. There has to be a way to beat him!' On the surface, Spinner was indestructible! There was no matching his strength or outlasting his stamina! He was the ultimate weapon!
But, wait, he was just a prototype, wasn't he? Yeah! Tenko remembered! Iguchi was only allowed those upgrades to his body because he was a mere test subject. A failed test subject by their standards! So then there had to be some kind of flaw! What did those scientists see that made them decide he WASN'T perfect?! The teen decided to pay extra close attention to tell.
In dodging two attacks at once, Spinner stumbled. He got out of the way, yes, but that left for half a second of panic to be left in the young one's eyes. It wasn't the physical attacks that were getting to him as much as it was the number of opponents. Oh wait right!! If Iguchi's been fighting in underground rings for years now, that means he must be used to fighting one opponent at a time! Coordinated attacks carried out by three or more would be quite the adjustment to make.
Meaning: Iguchi had his limits. But they were more mental than they were physical.
But- but wait! That can't be all! Tenko watched some more to be sure. After a while of watching, he realized what was really going on.
Iguchi had been wearing himself down almost as much as Tenko. He was just a heck of a lot better at covering it up, having more experience fighting and all. So, he could be worn down, then. He could be beaten.
Tenko stood on the edge, smiling sadly. Below him was a mess of fire and destruction. Though the professional heroes were managing the kid well by splitting his attention, they wouldn't last long. Not without his help at least. Once the resolve entered his stubborn little head, Tenko took a long, deep breath. He closed his eyes, hoped this would all turn out alright, and stepped off the edge.
This fight would end soon.
All he had to do was keep punching.
