Twenty One - The Maid He Killed

"Erryk! Erryk, stop! Please stop!" She begged as she chased Erryk Cargyll down the corridors of the Keep. He did not stop, his pace was quick. He walked and walked, until finally he turned a corner that led to a dead end. She took a deep breath, tears welling her eyes.

For what reason? She wasn't sure. Maybe it was shame, or maybe it was because of betrayal. How could Aemond violate their intimacy like that? Let her be seen like that?

"What?!" He snapped, turning around to finally face her. His face looked distraught, small tears rolling down his cheeks. She did not want this. She did not mean to hurt him.

"What can you possibly tell me, Elyana? That he forced you? That you didn't mean to? Fuck!" He slammed his fist to the rock wall besides him angrily. She looked away in shame, her arms hugging herself seeking shelter and comfort.

"The things you said... that you were his? All whilst you claimed to want to marry me? How can you fucking live with yourself?!" He asked, his voice wavering as his gaze lowered to the ground.

"It all makes sense to me now... what my brother says about you is true... what everyone whispers. I defended you! Every corner turned I fucking defended your honor! And for what?! Your honor is non-existent!" The words were wounding her deeply. Her gaze lowered to the floor, she felt too ashamed to even look at him. She knew this was her fault, she knew there was no turning back.

"Erryk please... forgive me... please." Her voice was a wavering whisper, spoken in a feeble attempt to fix what was so terrible and irrevocably broken.

"Answer me something... do you love him?" The question made her vision grow blurry from tears. And her silence was deafening. She was done lying to Erryk, and to herself. She didn't need to speak it, he already saw the answer painted on her face.

"You love him... you... you are seriously deranged, Elyana. You love him. You love him?! Him?! That one-eyed freak?! Fucking hells... how was I so fucking blind? So fucking delusional about you?" He stared at her in disgust and she wanted to simply drop dead and die.

"I am so sorry..." She breathed out as he scoffed cynically. "Sorry? If you even had an inch of guilt or sorrow in that body of yours... you wouldn't have done this." He spoke, his tone dropping.

"I was going to give you everything... and you betrayed me. I was going to save you from your misery and look what you were doing all this time... getting fucked by a prince who gives two horse shits about you." That one really hurt. Maybe because she knew it was truthful.

"Please forgive me, Erryk. I-I..." She didn't have anything to make it better. Her words were clear. She was Aemond's, only his.

"Do you really think he will give you anything beyond just fucking you?! I was going to give you everything! And you threw that away for him?!" His anger was not subduing, instead it only grew fiercer as he watched her stand there crying.

"I should have listened to Arryk's warning. He was right... you are just a whore." She reached for him, trying to make it better but he stepped away. He snatched his hand from her grip and walked right past her and away from her.

Elyana burst out in tears. She was sorry for hurting him, because she really didn't want that. She wanted Erryk, she did. She just wanted Aemond more. Her heart ached in her chest at Erryk's words, more so because she knew them to be true. She thought of Aemond, and her sadness melted into anger. She turned around and walked steadfastly back to his chambers.

She burst into them to find him back in his desk reading as if he hadn't just had her on top of it a few minutes ago. He stood up as soon as he saw her, a smug grin on his devil face. "I hate you." She breathed out as she stalked to him, sizing him up.

"I hate you! I hate you! I hate you! Give me my purity back! Give me my maidenhead back! You didn't deserve it! It was mine! And you stole it!" Elyana was crying and sobbing uncontrollably. She was hitting his chest with each word she spoke, pushing him backwards.

Aemond opened his mouth, to speak a cruel response, something about how he had the right to do whatever he liked. But the words got caught in his throat. Maybe, deep down, he knew that he didn't have the right to do that. Maybe he really did feel a pang of guilt.

"You wanted it..." He told her, it really was the only thing he mustered up to say. It was not fine what he did, he knew that.

"You are the prince! You should have never looked my way! You should have left me to live my righteous life... and now, now thanks to you... I lost everything." Her sad sobs turned into angry spats, her little fists rolled into balls. Aemond felt guilty, but he wasn't capable of showing that.

Instead he crossed his arms over his chest with an angry expression on his face. "Oh really? To me it seems like I saved you from marrying someone you do not want. Because if you did, you wouldn't have done this." He said, a disdainful tone dripping from his tongue like poison.

"Saved me?! You ruined me, you fucking narcissistic cunt!" The words slipped, she didn't mean to call a prince of the blood a cunt. But in that exact moment, she felt she was valid in her words.

Aemond didn't respond, and for a second Elyana thought he would grab his sword and finally put her out of her misery, but he didn't. He just blinked at her, as if he didn't have anything to say. His indifference to ruining her life made her more angry than she had ever been.

"I hate you so much, it hurts to breathe. I am so furious at you for making me feel like this, for doing this to me. I wish that I never met you... I despise you..." Her voice trembled.

This was unlike the many times she had told him she hated him, because this time she meant it.

"Sometimes when you leave these cursed chambers, I take your weapons and I fantasize about killing you." She confessed, and his eye darted away from her. He would never admit that her words were hurting him, more than she would ever know.

"You fucking ruined my life." She cried, salty tears covering her face as she sobbed quietly. He slowly approached her, engulfing her in a tight, warm hug. She sobbed into his chest, cheek against his leather doublet.

"I know." He huffed. He had no idea what else to tell her. He knew he ruined her life. He knew he was ruining her since their first meeting. And he didn't really care then, but now he did.

"Do you know what the worst part is?" Elyana asked quietly, pulling away to look up at him. His brow twitched as her lip quivered under his gaze.

"I hate you. But at the same time... I want to hold you... want to wrap my arms around your neck. You are so awful to me, so terrible. And yet, you're all I want. All I yearn for..." Her voice was soft as she looked up at him with pleading eyes. She gulped and stepped away from him.

"You are all I think about at night, and every second of every day... because I think I love you." His face contorted from a soft expression to a cold one as soon as he heard those words.

Aemond stepped away from her, his face turning into an angered one in a matter of seconds. She could not love him. She should not love him. His silence was deafening, and as she stared at him expectantly, she knew.

A snarl crept unto his face, and a dagger plunged into her heart as she watched him simply stand there. Say something. She begged in her mind. Lose something. Risk something. Choose something. Her heart thudded in her chest as she stared at Aemond.

"Go on. Twist the knife." She whispered, a small sob escaping her lips. He opened his mouth, yet nothing came out. He swallowed hard, his cruel eye looking into her soul.

"You love me yet you were set to marry another." His tone was disdainful, arms crossing over his chest as he eyed Elyana. "What did you expect me to do?! Wedding an honorable man is the only way for me to put my mother out of her misery!" She exasperated in tears.

"Well that is pathetic." He snickered and when he opened his mouth again, Elyana knew he was only going to break her heart.

"You are pathetic and foolish... falling in love with me? It is rather disgusting." Knife twisted deeper into her heart. Silence fell upon her, and she braced herself for his next words for she knew they were not going to be kind to her.

"You are a good fuck, but I would never love you. I could never love you." Elyana had heard enough. She turned around from the cruel man she had fallen in love with and moved hastily towards the door.

"Where do you think you're going?" Aemond asked as she turned around slowly.

"I renounce my duties as your maid." She stated, her eyes darting to his sapphire encrusted dagger which sat on his weapon rack. She was so angry that she made a run for the rack, and grabbed his favorite dagger in her hands.

"I don't ever want to see you again." She stated as Aemond watched her, and he could feel his heart shattering inside. He wanted to speak his mind, he wanted to tell her the truth but he did not understand or know how.

She contemplated stabbing him in the heart like he had emotionally done to her but she didn't. She took one last look to the prince, his dagger in hand, and then fled his chambers.

Don't go. His mind pleaded. I love you too. He wanted to say, but his feet were stuck to the ground. She fled his chambers with his dagger, his kisses, and with his heart. And he simply let it happen.

-

Elyana entered her little maid chambers with his dagger in hand and grabbed a dress from a box. The first gifts he had ever given her. She tore the dress to pieces, another followed, then another. And soon enough, every single dress Aemond had gifted her was made into tiny little pieces. Like her heart.

She cried and sunk to her knees, gripping the fabrics and silks she had torn into nothing. She dropped his dagger and brought a hand to cover her mouth as she sobbed quietly.

She did not know what she was expecting for she knew Aemond would never return her sentiments but she thought maybe... maybe he would. What was she fucking thinking?! A prince loving her? Aemond loving her? A pathetic little maid? She lost everything for him, and he only humiliated her for it. Now she sat there, without Aemond, without Erryk, and only with a broken heart.

She remained on her knees for what felt like hours and soon the sun was setting down on the King's Landing sky. She stood from her stance and looked around the room, her eyes landing on the jewelry chest Aemond had gifted her full of the best jewels his gold could buy.

Elyana took an angry breath and grabbed her cloak from her tiny wardrobe, and then grabbed Aemond's dagger. She took a piece of the linen she had shredded from the floor and created a makeshift belt to tie around her waist, then she secured the dagger to it.

She grabbed the chest and off she was. She walked steadfastly down the back corridors of the Red Keep, and soon enough she was hustling away from the castle. She walked and walked, the weight of the chest already seeming too heavy for her. She walked down an alleyway and she was finally in the heart of the city and blending in the crowds.

Some men would whistle at her, and others would simply stare as she walked. She was looking for a place to sell the jewelry Aemond had gifted her. She was nervous, and scared of being in the city alone but the necessity of getting rid of him was too great.

She looked through the many shops of King's Landing, hoping to find a tradesmith that would take all of the fine jewels. She suddenly bumped into an older scrawny and rather dirty man, who grabbed her shoulders roughly. "Aye! Watch where ya' goin!" He snarled, pushing Elyana away from him.

She shrieked and glared at him as she continued walking, then another person bumped into her. This time, the man wore armor that she recognized all too well since it was the same her father used to wear. City Watch.

"Careful!" He snapped, looking down. Elyana gulped and nodded her head rapidly, she was about to walk away when suddenly the knight tilted his head to the side. "I know you... you work at the  keep." He stated but she couldn't recognize the man through his helmet.

"You are my nephew's maiden." He stated and she frowned. She didn't know Aemond had an uncle in the City Watch.

"I've seen you trailing behind him around the Keep... what are you doing here? It is dangerous for a lady like yourself. I am sure my nephew won't like to hear this." Elyana rolled her eyes.

"I am not Prince Aemond's problem anymore. Now if you'll excuse me..." She nudged him with her shoulder as she walked away from him, only for the man to grab her arm to keep her back.

"I can not let a maiden like yourself walk alone through these streets. You're coming with me." He ordered and began dragging her up the street. Elyana scowled at his audacity and tugged her arm roughly out of his grip. Then she ran.

She ran as fast as she could, losing herself in the crowds. The knight called after her but she was soon away from his sight and blended into the tumultuous streets of the capital.

Elyana only stopped when she noticed a small building with a makeshift sign 'Trading Inside'. She took a breath and entered, only to find a messy shack with an older man behind a counter table. The place was filled with all sorts of goods and nicknacks, some seemed of great value, and others seemed like junk.

"May I help you?" The old decaying man asked as he eyed Elyana. She walked to the counter and propped the chest on it. "I want to sell this to you." She spoke in the most confident voice she could muster.

"I do not buy from little girls." The man spoke in a disgusting manner, smiling at her and showcasing his hideous rotting teeth. She scrunched her nose up in disgust and reached for the chest, opening it to reveal it's contents to the old man.

He gasped and pointed his scrawny bony finger at her. "Thief!" He yelled which only caused her to roll her eyes.

"I am not a thief." She hissed, opening her cloak to reveal the intricate dress she wore. The dress in which Aemond had ripped her heart to pieces in. She made a mental note to shred it to pieces too as soon as she got to the Keep.

"I had a friend, a very rich one, who gifted me these. But I do not want them. Please, buy them off me." She spoke in a low tone as the man crossed his arms over his chest and eyed Elyana.

He reached into the chest, grabbing a ruby necklace and bringing it closer to himself, inspecting it thoroughly. "These are all real? Not glass?" He asked her as he inspected the other pieces.

"All real. I will take anything. I just want these away from me." She replied as he hummed and nodded. He grabbed a sack from under his counter and plopped it on the table.

"Five golden dragons and five silver stags. Take it or leave it." She sighed in relief at his offer. She expected much less from the look of his rundown shack. "I'll take it." She spoke and snatched the sack from the counter. She looked at the insides and then gave the man a nod.

"Thank you." She said and headed for the door, giving the chest one last look before leaving it with it's new owner.

She was quick as she hustled back to the castle, not once stopping for anything. And when she passed the gates, she sighed in relief. Her mission had been successful. She scurried to the servant chambers, and looked for her mother's room. When she finally arrived, she knocked frantically at the door.

Lyanna opened the door rapidly, a worried expression settling on her face when she saw her daughter standing there. Elyana entered her mother's room and dropped the sack on the desk. "It's gold and silver. Our family needs it. You need it. And I hope it makes up for my lack of work." Elyana spoke bitterly, making Lyanna frown.

"Lack of work? Elyana, what happened? Did the Prince fire you?" Lyanna asked her daughter, taking her hands in hers. Elyana gulped and took a deep breath.

"No. I quit." She replied simply. She could feel her heart tighten, but she was not going to cry anymore. That was a vow.

"What happened? Did he do something to you?!" Lyanna asked in distress, hugging her daughter tight to her body. Nothing mother, he took what made me pure and ripped my heart out from my chest, but I should have seen it coming. It was my own fault.

"He defiled me, mother."
