Thirty Three - The Beggar Prince

Elyana brushed her hair aggresively as she looked into the looking glass of the vanity in Aemond's chambers.

And only one thing was on her mind. Darra. Her supposed friend and her treacherous words ran through her mind at a rapid pace, and the feelings of betrayal spread through her body like wildfire.

A social climbing slut. The words hurt, but only because they were said by someone that she trusted. Someone that she prayed was good. She had sent Dyana away and trusted Darra that day. She should not have done that.

She suddenly felt like the dumbest of all. She should have seen it coming when Darra chastised her for Angelyna, and when she ran to Aemond when Elyana explicitly asked her not to tell anyone.

But to tell Erryk that she was a 'social-climbing slut'. That one surprised her. When did Darra and Erryk even become friends?

"What are you wearing?" Elyana turned to see Aemond staring at her from the door of the bedchamber with a raised brow. Elyana pressed her lips and rolled her eyes. Not in the mood for his attitude.

"That's the first thing you want to say to me after our nuptials?" Elyana asked as she turned back to the looking glass to continue her hair brushing.

"That is the ugliest dress I have ever seen. It looks like something my mother would wear." Aemond stated as he moved to change his own clothing. And he cursed when he opened his wardrobe. "Where the fuck are my tunics?" He groaned.

"Oh... I had Marina throw them in that chest in the corner." Elyana pointed to a brown dusty chest. "I had to make way for my dresses." She shrugged nonchalantly, though the faintest of smirks tugged at the corner of her lips.

"Of course you did." Aemond groaned and moved to open the chest. "For your information, the dress was commissioned for me by your mother." Elyana answered.

She did not really like it, but she did not complain. It was a long sleeved green gown, with a Seven-Pointed star in the middle of her chest. She would not have chosen it for herself but all of the dresses that had been sent for her were of the likeness.

"What about the ones I had sent for you all of those moons ago?" Aemond asked her. And she gulped.

"Those. Yeah, those I shredded to pieces with the dagger I stole from you the day you exposed my sex to Erryk and then called me pathetic for loving you." She smiled sarcastically at him.

His jaw tensed at the words. Of couse he would get angry. He was livid that she did that to his gift, and livid that she would bring what he did up again so casually. But he did not say anything. He untensed his jaw and fixed his tunic and doublet up. "No matter. You look beautiful in that dress."

Then he whispered with a smirk, "Even if you look like Helaena's septa." Elyana gasped and threw the hairbrush at his figure, making him chuckle slightly.

"I jest, my love. Though I will order more dresses be made for you. I do not wish my wife to be a reflection of my mother. Tis unsettling." Aemond stated and came to stand behind her, draping his strong arms over her figure and planting a kiss at the top of her head.

Elyana could not help the smile that crept unto her face as she looked at him through the looking glass. She wanted to ignore him and act angry at him, but he was just... him.

"We have wed... yet you've been neglecting me since your travels back from the North. We must consummate our marriage." He said smugly. "Or do it again. Since we consummated it plenty of times before ever wedding."

His voice was low and husky, and it made her want to get on the bed and open her legs for him but she simply hummed and shrugged. "When the time is right." She stated and did two small braids at each side of her head with the rest of her brown locks falling down her shoulders.

"I love you." Aemond blurted, and it felt liberating to say it. He swallowed as he watched her through the looking glass, and then took a small breath when she turned to him. "I love you too." She replied with a small smile.

Aemond smiled proudly and then moved to his dresser, cursing when he noticed his usual drawer of eyepatches was now a drawer of tights and stockings. "My patches?" He asked, trying not to lose it.

She chuckled and pointed to the last drawer of his dresser, the one he did not even use. Aemond grimaced and got a new patch.

"I um... somebody upset me today." Elyana spoke as she stood from the vanity and turned to face him. Aemond's face instantly fell at the notion.

"Who did?" Aemond asked as Elyana moved to dust off his tunic. "I heard that Darra called me a social-climbing slut." She muttered and looked up at him, her eyes searching his face trying to gauge his reaction.

"Darra?" He asked in confusion. No idea who that was.

"The one that told you of my condition." Elyana stated matter of factly, and then he remembered her.

So that was her name. He could not care less for it, he frankly cared little for other woman if they were not Elyana.

"She called you that?" He took a beat to think about his next words. "What punishment do you wish for her? Tongue be taken? Imprisoned? Stripped off her job?" Aemond asked casually.

Elyana sighed. She was fond of Darra, she really was. Hells, she even loved her. She was her first and only friend in the Keep, the one she stayed up all of those nights with, and the one she went into the city with. Could she really show Darra cruelty? Even if Darra showed it to her first?

"I do not know." She sighed and then she leaned into his chest for comfort. He stood like a statue for a few seconds, still not used to this, but then he wrapped his arms around her and held her close.

"Whatever that you wish for, I will do. If you want a collection of the tongues of anyone that ever crosses you, I will start it for you." He whispered, and it was romantic to her. She nuzzled her head into his chest, and she simply felt protected. Like nothing could hurt her if Aemond was there.

"Erryk insulted me too." She blurted after, without much thinking. "Called me all sorts of mean and rude names." She stated and Aemond pulled away and looked down at her with a frown.

"Do you reckon that knight has a death wish?" Aemond chuckled darkly. And Elyana loved the way his eye glistened with malice. Though she would never speak that out loud.

"He has been searching for my blade all this time, and he might just have found it." Aemond stated, his nostrils flaring slightly as he looked down at his wife. "Do not." Elyana ordered. She did not want to hurt Erryk... for now.

"He is jealous because he did not win, you did." She shrugged and Aemond had never felt better than in that moment. "I did win." He reinstated and crashed his lips into hers.

Elyana sighed into the kiss, her hands snaking around this neck to pull him down even closer towards her.

She could not believe she had him.

That she was a princess.

That Aemond Targaryen loved her.

His hands were quick to lift her skirts, and she pulled away with a blushing smile. "They're waiting for us at the feast, Aemond." She warned and he simply smirked.

"We will be quick, love."

-

"You're late." Alicent hissed when Elyana and Aemond finally appeared about the Great Hall. The feast was in full motion, and the Hall was full to the brim of nobles from all over the realm, and decorated with white flowers all over. Elyana was surprised at the transformation, just earlier it was dull for court, and now it looked beautiful.

"Elyana could not decide on a dress." The girl scoffed at being blamed for their tardiness because it could not be farther from the truth.

The truth was that they were not satisfied with one round, or two, or three. If not for the feast, they probably would have stayed all evening and night long in their rooms. They needed each other, and each  yearned for the other's touch.

Alicent eyed her from head to toe and then hummed. At least the maid he chose was a pretty one, the Queen had to admit.

"Well come, tis time to announce your marriage and get it over with so we can all feast." Alicent stated.

Elyana felt her fingertips begin to tremble as the pair followed Alicent to the very front and center of the Great Hall. She held on to Aemond for dear life, not once letting go of his arm as they stood before the court. Whispers could be heard as the nobles looked at the scene in front of them.

Otto Hightower approached them with a goblet and a fork, and hit the fork a few times on the goblet to get the Great Hall to fall into silence.

"The crown has the most exciting news to share with the realm!" Otto spoke with a loud and commanding voice. Elyana was almost shaking for some reason as she looked up at Aemond and then towards the unfamiliar faces in the crowds.

Her eyes found her mother looking up at her with a smile, and then they found Lucia Risley looking at her with an inquiring gaze.

"The King Viserys is most saddened that he is not present to announce this news himself, but alas he has bestowed upon me to let the court know..." Otto continued, his gaze shifting to Aemond and Elyana and then back to the crowd.

"The Prince Aemond has taken a wife. May we present to the court the new Princess Consort of the Targaryen Dynasty, the Lady Elyana Rotchamsey." Gasps erupted in the Hall and then whispers followed instantly.

Horrified looks from everyone in the room were given to the royal family, and Elyana gulped hard as she looked back at all of the judgeful looks.

Then fierce clapping and cheering from one person, and Elyana beamed when she noticed Lucia clapping like a mad woman. The nobles began slow and solemn clapping for the newlywed couple. "So let us feast in honor of the Prince Aemond and his wife!" Otto tried to ease the tension.

The nobles scattered to their tables and Elyana looked up to Aemond who seemed like the happiest he had ever been. He looked down at her with a smirk and guided her to the table.

Elyana sat in between Aemond and Helaena, then her eyes skimmed the Hall to see the people muttering amongst themselves as the bards began to play their tunes.

"Congratulations. I have always wanted a sister." Helaena hummed quietly and gave Elyana a small smile. It was a kind statement but it confused Elyana beyond means.

"But you already have one." Elyana smiled and Helaena simply ignored her and drank from her goblet. Odd.

A few moments later Elyana smiled when her mother came to the table and was given a seat across from her, and she felt relieved to have her near. The Queen definitely was being kind to Elyana and her mother, despite the circumstances of the marriage.

"Congratulations you two." Lyanna smiled widely, and Aemond nodded his head curtly.

"Thank you, my lady. We are now family." Aemond stated as he sipped his wine. Lyanna smiled at his kindness and then was pulled for conversation by the Queen.

"You look so beautiful, my love. I can not wait to keep you all night and all day morrow in our bed." Aemond whispered and then planted a kiss to her temple. "Stop it. We are in public."

"I do not care. I would take you right here for everyone to see if you allowed." He chuckled and began eating his roasted pork. Elyana scoffed and rolled her eyes at him. "Get a grip." She chuckled and he smirked then leaned to her ear.

"The only grip I ever will get is your cunt around my co-" She cut him off.

"Aemond stop it!" She ordered and looked around the table to make sure nobody was listening to his dirty words. He chuckled and she couldn't help the laughter that overtook her.

In a corner of the Great Hall brooded Erryk Cargyll next to his twin brother. The knight watched the newlyweds with a sour look on his face. "You are staring, brother." Arryk whispered.

"I do not care. Can you believe her?" Erryk asked angrily. "She is sitting there as if nothing. Look at her smiling..." Erryk was in disbelief at how happy Elyana seemed. More happy than she had ever been with him.

"I did warn you about her. You should have seen it coming ever since he sent you to get her dresses in the city." Arryk shrugged nonchalantly.

"I saw the good in her, but I fear that good I saw was but an act. She is just like him. Look at her, basking in the attention of the court." Erryk snarled as he watched her smile at some nobles who were introducing themselves to her.

"You really think she is as bad as him? Perhaps ambitious but surely not as bad as Aemond. I mean, come on. He has always been the worst." Arryk tried being the voice of reason for his brother. He did not like Elyana, never did. But he did not see her being as evil as Aemond.

"The only person that would ever love a man as cruel and unforgiving as him is a person that is the mirror of what he is." Erryk mused.

"No woman in their right mind would love that man. Don't you remember how he started acting in the courtyard back when he came back without an eye? How awful he was?" Erryk tried reminding his brother.

"But he was awful since forever, Erryk. Remember his ill temper? Remember when he was only ten and he threatened to hit me with a goblet because I accidentally took the leg of turkey he wanted." Arryk contested.

"That just proves my point. Who could love that man? Why would she do this? She could have been happy with me. She swore she loved me. You know what? She even said she hated him a few times." Erryk spat bitterly. He was just so angry.

"What is done is done, Erryk. This is far better than you renouncing your titles and staining our family." Arryk told him, and to a sense it was true. "Be grateful you found out of her affair before you wed her."

"Do not tell me to be grateful for being betrayed like this."Erryk spoke solemnly. "I loved her, more than I could explain... and I thought she did me back but I was wrong. Now I get to watch her be happy with that monster instead of with me."

His gaze returned to her, and she had stood up from her seat and was making her way down from the royal table and into the crowd.

Elyana walked with purpose towards Lucia, and when the girl saw her, she stood up from her seat with her family and rushed to Elyana.

"You kind of forgot to mention you were going to wed the prince yesterday!" Lucia engulfed her in a bone crushing hug, and Elyana could not help the giggles that erupted from her. "How does one explain that when you are basically a nobody?" Elyana laughed.

"Oh but you are a somebody! The princess! Oh this is amazing." Lucia laughed, and her eyes twinkled with glee as she stared and Elyana. It was an instant connection between the two, a mutual fondness.

"It is even better now that the Prince Aemond is off the market... I do not have to grovel for his attention." Lucia sighed in relief and Elyana chuckled. "You really do not want to wed, huh?" She asked the girl.

"No... not yet at the very least. I am content with just being for the time." Lucia shrugged nonchalantly. Elyana was happy. Until she heard an aggravating voice acknowledge her.

"Elyana Rotchamsey, is it?" They both turned to see a girl staring back at them with a scrunched up nose. She wore a maroon gown, adorned with lions on it's sleeves. She was pretty.

"Yes it is." Elyana answered and gave her a small smile.

"Huh. I thought the servant that enthralled the prince would be much more beautiful. Yet you are rather ordinary." The lady spoke rudely, and Elyana was taken aback by her words. She did not even know who she was.

"Piss off, Corryne. Don't be bitter that she won over all you desperate ladies." Lucia said and glared at the blonde haired girl. Elyana smiled and instantly felt glad to have Lucia besides her.

"I am not bitter, Risley. I only come to grant her my felicitations. It's not everyday a lady falls from grace, then climbs back up. Although... that climbing you must have done in his bedchamber does sound appealing. He is a handsome man." Corryne said with a smirk, and Elyana's face twisted in horror at the words.

But she recovered quickly, if she wanted to make it at court, she would need to stand up for herself.

"You are most kind, Lady...? Pardon me, I am new at court..." Elyana trailed off, her eyes defiantly meeting hers. "Lannister. Corryne Lannister."

"Ah... Lady Corryne Lannister. Well yes... it is not every day that a mere servant weds a prince of the blood. The ladies at court must have been irrevocably boring and dull for him to settle for little old wench me." Elyana said with a dry laugh.

"What did you just say?" Corryne scoffed as she glared at Elyana.

"I think she said you are boring and dull, Corryne. And that the Prince Aemond wouldn't even touch you with a ten foot jousting pole. Oh... seems like I added that myself." Lucia added, earning a smirk from Elyana.

"You are barbaric, Lucia Risley!" Corryne hissed and Lucia only rolled her eyes at this.

"If I am so barbaric then why was your uncle begging to wed me?" Lucia laughed, and now it was Corryne's turn to be appalled.

"Now that I think about, perhaps I shall accept Jason's offer and then I could become Lady of Casterly Rock and boss you around. What a dream." Lucia sighed and Elyana burst out laughing.

"Stop it!" Corryne hissed and stomped her foot, storming away from the pair like a bratty child.

"I refuse to believe that girl is our age." Elyana stated as she watched Corryne walk away angrily.

"Oh... she is even older than us and remains unmarried. Perhaps because she is the epitome of a witch." Lucia whispered, a notion which made Elyana laugh. "And she's not even the daughter of the Lord of Casterly Rock yet she acts like all that, honestly she is the worst of the worst."

"Has she always been like that?" Elyana asked Lucia, who nodded her head instantly. "Always. I grew up around her at court and she has always been a terrible and spoiled girl." Lucia answered.

"And now she hates me." Elyana breathed out, taking a deep breath and turning to Lucia. The feast was still in full motion, yet with her new friend, the time flew by.

"Only because you got what she has pined for since we were just children. I swear all she ever did was talk of Prince Aemond and how she would one day wed him. I will be honest with you, most ladies of court will probably dislike you but only because you got what they wanted with little to no title and no money." Lucia said truthfully. And Elyana appreaciated the honesty.

"Do you dislike me?" Elyana taunted her with a raised brow.

"Oh no, I quite like you actually. You are quite the girl." Lucia said with a playful smile.

"I quite like you too. I think I might need you by my side at court every day." Elyana suggested, making Lucia raise a brow at her.

"Are you suggesting..." She trailed off and Elyana nodded gleefully.

"Be my lady-in-waiting? Please? You are the the only lady of court that I could envision being a true loyal friend." Elyana confessed and instantly Lucia was nodding.

"Oh my god, yes! Yes! This would be perfect! I get to stay in King's Landing and not wed any man for the time being." Lucia beamed, and Elyana sighed in relief.

"Now I just need to convince my mother that becoming your lady is more honorable than marrying some fat lord."

-

After greeting many lords and ladies and engaging in meaningless conversations, Elyana and Aemond were finally on their way back to their chambers. Aemond was eager to get his hands on his wife, it was all he wanted all night long.

"I can not wait to see you all round with our child. Fuck." Aemond cursed as he pulled Elyana down a corridor of Maegor's Holdfast eagerly. He was so happy that he had fucked his heir into her, she had no idea.

Elyana giggled and sighed. Clearly all the anger and contempt she had felt for him pushing her into this was long gone. Now she was just basking in the magnetic force of a man that was Aemond Targaryen. Basking in having him, in knowing he was hers and only hers.

She tugged on his arm and pulled him into a feverish kiss. Aemond sighed into it and slammed her to the wall. "Fuck. Sorry! Sorry! I forget to be gentle." He said almost instantly, pulling away from her with a worried expression on his face.

"Do not fret, my love. For I know you are not a gentle man." She whispered and pulled him into a kiss again.

She knew him. She knew everything about him. She knew his rage, his hate, and his cruelty. But now she knew his love. And she vowed to keep it forever.

They basically ran to their chambers eagerly, Aemond was almost tugging off his doublet in the corridor, but then both of them stopped abruptly.

In front of their chambers stood Darra, seemindly waiting for them to arrive.

Elyana's entire body tensed up when her eyes landed on her treacherous friend, and Aemond was quick to move his hand to the hilt of his sword. But Elyana moved her hand on top of his to stop him and motioned her head to their chambers, as if telling him to go in.

Aemond narrowed his eyes on his wife and then glared at Darra. He was itching to take his sword and hurt the girl in front of them for insulting his wife.

"Go." Elyana ordered and he rolled his one eye, going inside his chambers and leaving the two alone.

"El... you haven't come to see me since you came back." Darra said with a small smile, and Elyana wanted to slap her for the audacity and hypocrisy she was showing.

"Nor you to see me." Elyana retorted as she eyed the girl in front of her. Darra was so young, but being young gave her no right to act like a treacherous bitch.

"Well um... tis exciting, is it not? You're a princess now!  I am so happy for you." Darra smiled and took Elyana's hands in hers, looking at her with wide glistening eyes. And Elyana wanted to kill her.

"I am." She gave her a nod. Darra sighed and darted her eyes around the corridor nervously.

"I was... we've been friends for so long, ever since you appeared here at the Keep. I wondered... you know... if I could be your lady-in-waiting. It would be amazing to be stepped up from the kitchens and um... just spend my days with you." Darra suggested nervously, and Elyana could not believe her ears.

"Oh that would be amazing." Elyana said with just the tiniest bit of sarcasm present in her tone. She snatched her hands from Darra and gave her a small smile.

"But you do not want to be my lady, Darra. I will not force you to spend your days with me." Elyana started only for Darra to frown with a chuckle. "Nonsense! It would be so fun!" Darra stated excitedly.

"Would it? Trust me you are better off being a kitchen wench than the lady of a social climbing slut." Elyana's face turned hard as she mentioned the insult Darra had told Erryk, and the girl's face fell instantly.

"W-What?" Darra stuttered, taking a slight step backwards and away from Elyana. "That's what I am, right? A social climbing slut?" Elyana asked, taking one step back towards her.

"No! Why would you say that?" Darra asked, her eyes darting away from Elyana nervously and then back to her.

"Why would you say that?" Elyana spat back, arms crossing over her chest as she glared at the girl that was supposed to be her friend.

"I would never say that!" Darra gasped in shock, as if she could not believe Elyana could accuse her of such a thing.

"Do not dare lie to me, Darra! Erryk told me what you said..." Elyana trailed off and instantly Darra's demeanor faltered. Worry crossed her face as she tried to explain herself.

"He is lying! He is a liar!" Darra instantly accused like a child that knows they have been caught red handed.

"Really? I do not reckon that he is." Elyana stated, and she scoffed at the tears that brimmed Darra's eyes. Was she being serious?

"I-I-I..." She did not know what to say to save herself.

"You-You-You what?!" Elyana taunted her cruelly as the girl broke down crying in front of her.

"You're crying? You betray me and you are the one that is crying?! Grow up, Darra. You've been caught... and I... how could you do that? We were best friends!" Elyana exasperated angrily.

"I..." Silence followed Darra's attempt to explain.

"I should have seen it coming when you shunned me for what happened with Angelyna, and I should have seen it coming when you went to Aemond when I asked you not to tell anyone of my condition..." Elyana said, and she felt dumb for ever trusting Darra over Dyana.

"I was looking out for you!" Darra snapped and Elyana could only roll her eyes at her. "Do not lie. You were hoping he would get angry and cast me off away from the castle, weren't you?!" Elyana asked angrily. She was seething as she put the pieces together.

"You are just a bitter jealous girl that could not fathom seeing another maid get what she desperately wanted." Elyana snarled and Darra cried like a baby as she looked back at Elyana. Gods, what a manipulative cunt.

"Stop crying! You are such a brat." Elyana ordered loudly, losing her patience at the girl's sheer audacity.

"What will you do to me now? Take my tongue like Angelyna?" Darra spat back. Elyana eyed Darra with a tiny smirk.

"I can get Aemond to do that and much worse. But I am feeling nice..." Elyana trailed off. She walked around Darra in circles like a hawk coming down unto it's prey.

"Here's some advice, darling child. You stay away from me, from my line of vision, and from my proximity. I do not want to see you around me again... is that understood? We will part our ways, Darra." Elyana sighed and grabbed a strand of the girl's hair in her hands, toying with it gently.

"I will be Princess Consort of the Targaryen Dynasty, will be happy with my prince, will bear his children and you... you will stay a kitchen wench, tucked away from the court until your pathetic life ends. Is that clear?" Elyana asked, dropping the strand of hair and smiling at her devilishly.

"You are vile and evil." Darra whispered as she looked up at Elyana, and this only served to anger her.

"I am being reasonable, Darra. Kind to you! You betrayed me. You stabbed me in the back and I am letting you off easy. You could be screaming in flames right now, yet you aren't. I was a maid when I took Angelyna's tongue, imagine the power I hold over Aemond now that I'm his wife. You should be grateful that I am being so kind to you." Elyana spat and she truly felt like she was kind and reasonable.

When Darra remained quiet, Elyana sighed and turned around to enter her chambers but apparently Darra was not done.

"You flaunt about like you are a sweet girl, like you care for others. But you are a terrible person, Elyana. Rotten to the core."
