Chapter 4

Yuma stared at the ceiling, listening to Kyoko's small breaths and the outside noise. She couldn't fall sleep ever since after Oriko injured Kyoko. Yuma would always have nightmares of the scene, replaying over and over again, and each time waking up with tears running down her cheeks. Yuma rolled over on her side and tried to close her eyes and sleep. After a few minutes of trying, she let out a sigh and gave up. Yuma slid off of the bed, quietly took Kyoko's phone and went into the living room. She by the table and rested her head on the glass carefully. Yuma then lied down on the floor and called Mami, hoping for an answer. The phone rang a couple of times and went to voicemail, and Yuma tried again. "H-Hello?" a sleepy voice said.

"Mami-San, I can't sleep. I couldn't sleep ever since the girl with the white poofy dress hurt Kyoko."

"Why didn't you call earlier, Yuma? You know that I could have helped you out."

"I know, but Kyoko doesn't know that I cant sleep at all or the past week. I don't want to make her care for me that much since she's still hurt and in pain."

There was a moment of silence between the two on both ends of the phone.

"Alright, Yuma. Stay there and I'll be there in a while."

"Alright, Mami-San."

Yuma hung up the phone and read the time on Kyoko's phone. It read 12:38 and Yuma let out a sigh. She got out from the table and sat up, and started to look through Kyoko's pictures due to boredom. "Yuma...? What are you doing up this late?" Yuma turned around and saw Kyoko, leaning on the wall for support.

"I couldn't sleep, so I called Mami-San and she is going to help me try to sleep."

"Why couldn't you ask me to help you? I'm here and you know that."

"But you were asleep and I didn't want to wake you."

"Why are you so difficult, Yuma?"

"Dunno, but I'll try to sleep."

Kyoko smiled slightly at Yuma before limping back to her room with Yuma following. Yuma slid into the bed and nuzzled her head into the pillow. Kyoko teacher her hand out and gently ruffled Yuma's head, making both smile gently. Yuma closed her eyes and tried to sleep, but she couldn't. About 30 minutes later, Yuma got out of the covers quietly again and went to the door. She stood on a stool and grabbed her jacket, slipping on her shoes and exiting the house. She walked down the apartment complex stairs and started walking on the sidewalk. "Mami-San!? Mami-San!? Where are you!?" Yuma called, hoping to find her friend. People walked past her, many eyeing her and giving her odd looks. Yuma continued looking for Mami, walking past the crowds of people. "Yuma!? Is that you!?"

"Mami-San!!"

Yuma turned around and found Mami, standing on the sidewalk looking at her. Yuma ran towards Mami and hugged Mami tightly.

"Yuma, what are you doing out here? Did you come here by yourself?"

"I got worried about you, so I started to look for you."

Mami smiled at Yuma then walked with her to Kyoko's house. It was partially quiet, they both quietly saying small words. They walked back up the apartment complex stairs and opened the door. "Anyway Yuma, I'm sorry I made you wait so long."

"It's fine, no worries. It's my fault for making you come all the over here to deal with my troubles. I'm just scared to tell Kyoko that I can't sleep because her pains hurt me."

"Don't worry, Yuma. Kyoko is fine, she tends to deal with things herself. I'll explain later. "

Yuma let Mami inside and watched her make tea, sitting at the table later. The two talked about what was happening after they last saw each other. The sipped their tea while talking, what any normal people would do. "So you can't sleep after Oriko hurt Kyoko?"

"Yea, I keep having nightmares of the moment over and over again.  I didn't tell Kyoko... because I don't want to hurt her more. She has to take after me and her injuries, and I don't want to worry too much."

"Don't worry too much about Kyoko, Yuma. This happened before a few years ago, and she did the same thing. She told me that she could deal with it herself and to let her handle it, and I did. About a month and a half later she was fine, just a small amount of scars on her but she deals with it. She's fine, if you want to still tell her then go ahead and tell her, she can handle it."

"I know, but it seems like it's hard for her to focus on me and her injuries at the same time. And a lot of times she would deal with me first before herself..."

"Kyoko does that because she loves you. She cares about you more because she doesn't want to lose you. Before you came into her life, all Kyoko had for a family was me. And of course we'd fought over the stupidest things most of the times, and other times we'd fight in alleys over something. But when you came into her life, I could tell that she was happy, and I was happy for her."

"Really...? Kyoko cares that much for me?"

"Yes, she does. That is why ran towards you to save you. Plus ignore Oriko, her partner recently turned into a witch and so now she has no one anymore. She just saw Homura and decided to pick on her, she isn't always that evil. "

Yuma nodded and hugged Mami tightly. They cleaned the table off and Yuma thanked Mami once again. They said goodbye to one another before Mami left. Yuma sat on the couch as Mami closed the door, and Yuma rested her read on the back of the couch. A minute after Mami left, the bed room door opened And Kyoko came into the living room, seeing Yuma on the couch. "Did you  just come in the house, Yuma?"

"No, I was in the house the whole time. Well, I did leave the house around 1 o'clock."

"Why did you leave the house at 12 in the morning, Yuma?" Kyoko said while limping to the couch and sitting next to Yuma.

"Mami wasn't at the house yet,  so I left to go look for her. She found me on the sidewalk and we came home and just talked."

"So did you worked out a problem that you didn't want to tell me?" Kyoko teased slightly, smiling at Yuma.

"Yea, Mami told me it would've been better for me to tell you, but I was too scared to tell you. I kept apologizing to her but she told me that it was ok and that she was glad she came."

"You don't have to be sorry for what you're scared of, everyone is scared of something."

"Thanks, oh Kyoko?"

"Yes?"

"Do you love me?"

"Of course I do, dummy," Kyoko said laughing a bit. Yuma smiled at her and hugged Kyoko tightly, tears silently running down her small face. Kyoko returned her hug, smiling gently. Yuma continues to cry and be in Kyoko's warm embrace,  calming down slightly as Kyoko started to stroke her green hair.  So this is what true love feels like....  Yuma thought as she started to slowly drift to  sleep
