Chapter twenty

Oliver surprisingly skillfully created a ring, a silver ring, from a mini rubber band, which he wrapped with silver foil from the packet of gum. Then he handed it to me with a wide smile.

"Well, how do you find your...", he didn't finish and blushed slightly.

I took it from him, and smiled.

It was a little soft, which was understandable, but it was also pretty good. I carefully slid it on my ring finger on my left hand and I set it up. I reached out to look at it and suddenly joy rose in me. The foil shone and reflected the light, and frankly from a distance it stood like a real engagement ring, or silver wedding ring because it was plain circle - there were no gems on it. But I wouldn't be surprised if Oliver had managed to create a gem or two now that I saw how talented he was.

"Yeah, I love it!" I said with admiration, then quickly withdrew my hand, because with the corner of my eye I caught that people were looking at us from one of the tables.

I leaned over the table and whispered to Oliver, "It's great!"

I leaned back, looked at the ring again, and smiled, "You're remarkable!" I added.

"Thank you," Oliver's smile lit up his entire face and shone from his eyes.

"Oh, well done! You found a ring!" Melissa Laurent whispered right next to us, and we both jumped in place, startled by her sudden appearance. "Great! We're starting!", she continued out loud so everyone could hear her, and she left the place next to our table as quickly and imperceptibly as she had appeared.

Oliver and I weren't startled this time... much, but we looked at each other and giggled.

"This woman knows how and when to show up," Oliver said.

"And when to disappear as well," I added, giggling, and he smiled.

"Mesdames et Messieurs! Welcome to our speed dating session called "7 Minutes in Heaven", said Mrs. Laurent loudly.

"7 Minutes in Heaven!?", Oliver and I repeated only with our lips to each other, and we barely calmed down and suppressed the wave of giggles that arose in both of us. But seriously! "7 Minutes in Heaven" Was she joking? I looked around. There were only adults here and we were definitely not on a teenage birthday party!

Melissa Laurent kept talking, explaining the rules, but I wasn't listening to her, I was still trying to control my laughter when she suddenly came up to us again.

"And these two, mes amis, are...", she leaned over to me and whispered, "What was your name again?"

"Oliver and Ashley," I replied.

"Ashley and Oliver," Melissa continued, "and since we were a little late with the start and postponed it for a better hour at 14:14, on the idea of mon cher Freddie, let's hear from them how we matched them together."

Oliver and I looked at each other, we both were flabbergasted. We didn't expect that she would throw us under the spotlight.

She urged us, "Allez-y! We have time but not that much!" She laughed.

Oliver overcame the stiffness of surprise faster than I did. He stood up and reached for me. I put my hand in his bigger and warmer palm and tickles ran all over my body. Oliver pulled me closer to him and wrapped his arm around my waist.

He smiled and started talking.
