Chapter seventeen
"Well, we're here," Oliver said as he turned off the engine.
We were in front of the restaurant "Yum yum Yummy", where it should be the second person in which the ring could be.
We both took a deep breath and got out of the car at the same time.
Oliver walked around and stood beside me. We both stared at the restaurant.
"Well, let's see what awaits us here," Oliver said, urging me to move forward.
Oliver stepped ahead, and I followed him.
But just as we walked in, as closing the restaurant door, I noticed that the laces on my winter boots had loosened. I stepped forward a little and crouched down to tie them tighter. "I don't know what the problem is, but these laces are still finding a way to untie no matter what. In fact, I'm genuinely surprised that they've only just reminded me of themselves," I thought as I tied the laces together and twisted them so I didn't think about them again. Today.
Oliver cleared his throat.
"Ashley!?"
"Yup," I replied without looking up from the puckish boots.
"What do you think... did I drive too slow...", he asked, then immediately added, "or too fast?"
"How so? I don't understand you."
"Well... I don't see any other option but these two, honestly."
"Oliver, I still don't understand," I still had not looked up at him. I wasn't even sure exactly where he was standing.
"Well... either I drove too slow and it took us almost two months to get here," he said, pausing again before adding, "or I drove so fast that I somehow took us into the future, in the near future, but still."
"Are you trying to pay me back for my Twilight moments up in the mountain with these gibberish or what?! Because if you want me to watch Back to the Future with you, I'm not sure this is the way to ask me", I said.
"It's not gibberish! I just don't see other option. It's seems we're in the future", he responded a bit angrily.
"Oliver, what are you talking about!?" I asked and finally got up and went to him.
"Well, don't you see!?" he asked with raised eyebrows, evidently surprised that I didn't notice something too obvious.
"What to...", but I didn't finish the question, because I finally looked around and... I was already beginning to understand what Oliver was saying.
The restaurant was decorated, but not with Christmas decorations. There was no sign of periwinkle, mistletoe, garlands, stars or lights. No, I lied there were lights, but they weren't Christmas lights.
There were pink and red roses everywhere, heart-shaped balloons in several shades of pink, heart-shaped lights flashing on and off, or glowing constantly in soft pink light. There were pink candles everywhere, but not all of them were lit up.
I stepped forward to one of the tables. There were utensils for two, roses in a vase, confetti resembling rose petals, heart-shaped candle in the middle, napkins on hearts, and plates with two huddled hearts painted on them. I raised my head and looked around. There were 12 tables in the hall, 7 of which were arranged in the same way as the one in front of me. The selection of the tables was interesting - one empty and two decorated, alternating, and the seventh was after two empty tables at the right end of the room.
I turned to Oliver, we looked at each other confused.
"If it's not one of your options, then Mr. Harris made us waiting for him for nearly two months," I said and frowned. "I guess it's 14th of February, or...", I just saw the balloons, there were text on them saying 'Love is all around you. Feel it, embrace it, and let it guide you!", and I added, "or we have entered a temple of love. See!?" I pointed to the balloons, Oliver pulled one, read the text and frowned, but after a while his face relaxed and he even grinned.
"What!?" I exclaimed.
"If not else the person we are looking for can understand the importance of our quest", he said.
I looked at him questioningly.
He stretched his right arm forward and made a wide gesture, showing everything we both noticed, "Someone who is that into love will absolutely help us, right?!" His voice was filled with hope.
I tried to reply but a woman's voice interrupted me.
"Ah! Here you are! You worried me terribly! You should have been here 15 minutes ago. Come on, hurry up! There's no time! We're starting soon!" said the woman who had emerged from nowhere. She walked behind us and pushed us to the right end of the restaurant, where another lounge was hidden behind heavy curtains I hadn't noticed before.
Oliver and I looked at each other bemused.
