Chapter 1 - A Cause Unites Us, Hope Gives Us Strength
In a valley where the grass grew as tender as lettuce and as green as sweet bell pepper, a group of settlers had settled down in search of a new life.
They were simple and hard-working people who lived in harmony, working together for the welfare of all.
Two sisters stood out in that small village, one of them was 7 years old, her name was Galani, a girl with a strong body, very shy but with an iron heart, and Liana, the youngest was 3 years old, with a small body, more perceptive and emotionally more open and sensitive than her older sister.

Before these people formed a beautiful village, they were settlers looking for a new life. In that search they got lost inside a forest as big as a lake. They were really lost, very lost and to make matters worse their wagons would not move because of the thick, sticky mud under their feet. They were forced to camp for several days to see how they could find a solution and get out of that place.
But the days turned into weeks and the food was running out. Inside the forest it was very dark, so dark that their faces, from more than a horse's length away, seemed to be stained with charcoal. The trees were very thick, so thick that it took twenty people to hug them and tall, so tall that their tops looked like the sky itself. Inside that place one lost track of time, they did not know if it was day or night. Like a drop slowly filling a glass, their minds began to fill with anxiety, fear, irritation and finally the quarrels between them.
The pushing and shoving became louder and louder, as did their shouting.
In the midst of the hubbub, Alexander, the girls' father, heard Galani's voice shouting all around looking for his little sister, Liana. That made him push away from the crowd like a raging bull and run to his little girl.
- Galani, what's wrong? - Alexander gasped as he held his abdomen from the effort he had to make to get to her.
- It's Liana daddy! I can't find her! And she's not in the wagon with the other children! - Tears of grief welled up in Galani's eyes as she hugged her father.
The nervous children panicked about what they were experiencing and hid in the wagons.
Alexander nervously searched the three wagons but Liana was not there. At that his mistress Liadana joined in the search going from side to side hand in hand with Galani.
A thousand thoughts crossed Alexander's mind of what could happen to Liana lost in that forest.
- Lianaaaa! Where are you! - An angry, heart-rending scream came from his throat that caught everyone's attention.
Then the differences were put aside and the quarrel ended abruptly. Everyone gathered round, for they knew it was partly their fault. They knew that by fighting the children were frightened and now a little girl was missing.

They split into groups and left for opposite sides. A few were left to look after the little ones and the herd animals.
Galani didn't want to stay in the group of children and started searching with her parents.
The hours passed and Liana did not appear, the parents' hearts began to grow tighter and tighter.

In the distance a group saw that between two trees that were crossed in the shape of a cross there was a particular glow that floated like stardust.
They approached and the glow disappeared, Liana was curled up sleeping, between each breath she let out a sigh of anguish.
The settlers hugged her and handed them to the parents. They thanked the forest, for that magical glow was what made them find her.
From there they also saw that the trees were opening up and some light could be seen and when they approached some of them fell to their knees, they had found the most beautiful valley they had ever seen.
In a way what happened united them even more, they worked as a team to get the wagons out of that boggy place, the children calmed down and helped as well. One cause, one hope was all they needed.
