Chapter 6

Another day, another time to wake up and get out of bed. My alarm clock blares music once again, and I am forced to get up and get ready for school. Rubbing my eyes I head to the bathroom where I see Dash is already dressed and applying some mascara.

"Wow Dash, you never put on makeup! What's the special reason?" I ask, grinning as she attempts to curl her eyelashes.

"Unicity said we should all try to look nicer for school, and that even just something as simple as mascara could help. I figure if we all do it, we might be a little more confident around our classmates!" She replies, and Unicity enters the room agreeing with her.

"Yes darling that is absolutely right. It only takes a few minutes, so why not try it out and see how it goes? I think mascara makes my eyes look bigger, and I love how it looks on me!" She bats her eyelashes at me, and I do have to agree that she looks amazing. Then again, Unicity always looks amazing. I head back to my room to change when I see a familiar number pop up on my phone as someone calls me. Since it's only 5:45 and I still have a lot of time before I need to leave, I decide to answer it.

"Hi Jerome what's up?" I ask, grinning as I hear a loud yawn from the other end of the phone.

"Hey Twi, I just wanted to wish you and the rest of the girls luck with soccer practice this morning! I know it's your first day, so me and the guys wanted to send some positive vibes to you!" He replies, and I can hear the excitement in his voice.

"Thanks Jerome! That's so sweet of you guys to wake up so early just to wish us luck!" I respond, attempting to get dressed and talk on the phone at the same time. "I'll be sure to let the girls know that you all send warm wishes!" With another yawn from Jerome, the call ends and I am back to getting ready for school.

I decide to take my look a notch up from Dash's and add some purple eyeshadow along with my mascara. Hopefully it won't bring me too much attention at school though. Once I am ready for school I meet the rest of the girls downstairs and tell them the nice message from the guys.

"Awww that's so sweet!" Flit sighs, smiling from cheek to cheek.

"I can't believe how nice they are!" Unicity agrees, and hands me a bowl with some oats, apples, and milk.

"They sure are a nice bunch aren't they?" Jackie asks, and we all nod in agreement. As soon as we all finish eating we decide to head to school for soccer practice. Today is Wednesday, and instead of leaving at 6:30 we have to be AT SCHOOL at 6:30. Man I am not a morning person, but I guess this is something I will have to get used to. Yay?

The six of us take a seat on the grass while we wait for the rest of the team to join us. Not even the coach is here yet, which is surprising. Usually the coach is always here before us with a clipboard and sunglasses, but today she is nowhere to be found.

"So guys, what should we do while we wait?" I ask, looking at the others for any suggestions. They shrug their shoulders and each go into their own activity. Unicity starts sketching some ideas on how we can glam up our uniforms, while Flit goes to a nearby bush to converse with some friendly skunks. Dash pulls out her Nintendo DS and begins playing some action game on it, and Jackie joins with her own. Peony wanders off somewhere (probably the school kitchen), and I'm left reading a book by myself.

About ten minutes pass before we look back up, surprised to see a still-empty field. I swear I almost saw a tumbleweed drift past my legs, and the others look the same. Peony returns back shaking her head.

"Well the kitchen is closed and I still can't find anyone to be here for practice." She frowns, looking a little defeated.

"I'm sure everyone is just running late." Unicity says, pulling a small smile on her face.

"Even the COACH?" Dash exclaims, shocked that we were the only ones here. "Today is Wednesday right? We got the right day and the right time?"

"Yup, Mrs. Horsewhinny said practices are Wednesday and Friday mornings at 6:30am. Today IS Wednesday... and the time is currently... 6:50am.... So where is everyone?" I check my watch and phone multiple times to make sure something didn't glitch out. We all look around, looking for something - anything - that moves.

"Should I go send a bird to fly around the building and see if he finds anyone?" Flit asks, and we all nod before she gestures to a bird and he takes off at full speed. A few moments later the bird comes back and puts its head down. "Oh no... He didn't see anyone." Flit sighs, and we all join her with sighs of our own.

"Guys... You don't think-" I'm suddenly interrupted by a nearby bush shaking uncontrollably even though there isn't any wind. Flash pops out, startling us all.

"BOO!" He shrieks, looking at our shocked faces. "Oh no... Did Mrs. Horsewhinny cancel practice today? Oh YEAH! She DID!" He takes a few moments to laugh before continuing. "She told me to make sure I let everyone on the team know. I knew I was forgetting something... Oh YEAH you guys are on the team too! Whoops!" He laughs more and sarcastically shrugs before looking straight at me. "Awwww is CRY upset? I guess I better leave before she makes the school into a lake with her tears!" He then walks away as students begin trickling in to go to their first classes.

"The NERVE of that guy! How dishonest is that?" Jackie shakes her head, and we all seem like we are going to burst with anger. Flit is holding back an angry skunk that looks like he wants to charge at Flash and spray him. Dash comes up and gives me a hug, seeing that I am in fact about to cry.

"Well there's nothing we can do about it now... School is going to begin soon so we may as well just head to class." I say as my eyes fill with tears, and we all pack our belongings away and stand up, shaking the grass off our pants. "Good luck with the rest of the school day girls..." We give each other one last hug before parting our separate ways to go to class.

Class was rough, especially having to deal with Flash the entire day. Luckily Unicity backed me up where she could and we tried to ignore him together. He kept making comments about soccer and crying, and naturally the teachers couldn't care less. My only saving grace was study hall, where Dash and I worked on some homework together and studied for our upcoming math exams. At least that was one class I got some peace and quiet. Dash and I head to the bus together, where we meet up with Jackie and Peony.

"Hey guys, how was your day?" I ask, smiling because I'm thrilled to be reunited. "Dash and I just finished studying for our upcoming math tests."

"PE was great today!" Jackie exclaims, showing off her muscles. "I think lifting all those apples is paying off! I climbed the rope so fast today, and that was the one without the knobs on it!"

"Wow Jackie that's great! I love that rope too! Twi over here -" Dash points at me "- still uses the baby rope with the knobs on it. AND she almost fell off! It was hilarious!" The girls start laughing, and I join them.

"Hey what can I say, I have noodle arms!" I laugh, and then look over at Peony. "How did you do Peony? What rope were you on?" Peony looks over at me, frowning.

"I ate a cupcake during class. I thought the rope climbing was voluntary! Don't tell me we had to do it for a grade?" We look at each other before shrugging.

"Nah it's probably fine," Dash says, and Peony immediately perks up. "Hey, there's Unicity and Flit! Let's ask them how it went! Hey Flit, how was PE? What rope were you on?"

"Oh! Well I was on the rope with the knobs, but I had a bird friend give me motivation outside the window! He helped me stay determined and I made it to the top!" Flit smiles, proud of her accomplishment.

"That's amazing Flit! I too was on the knobbed rope. I didn't make it that far though. It is an utter disgrace for a lady of my taste to be seen climbing a rope. The teacher said I did fine anyway." Unicity responds, and we all laugh before climbing on the bus together. Luckily, there were only three seats in the front of the bus left, which we all fill. That left Flash and Bold to be stuck sitting in the back of the bus with the troublemakers, far enough that they couldn't bother us. Thanks to that seating, the bus ride went smoothly and we were home in no time.

I decide to work on my homework for a while before going to the kitchen to start making dinner for everyone. We've all had a rough day and I think a good homemade meal will be able to lighten everyone's spirits a bit. After looking through the fridge I decide to make a simple fried rice for dinner and a few side dishes to go with it. As I'm dicing vegetables Jackie comes in and looks at me before smiling.

"Sugar cube, there are a lot easier ways to chop onions you know. Let me help." She comes over and takes the knife from me, cutting the rest of the vegetables in a flash. To say I am impressed would be an understatement.

"Wow! Thanks Jackie!" I say, and throw the veggies into a pan before turning back to her. "Wanna help me make some side dishes?" She immediately nods her head and we both get straight to work.

"Twi, besides the kimchi and gyoza, what else should we make? There are six of us and we all love variety, so what would you recommend?" Jackie asks as she chops up kimchi in a bowl.

"What about pajeon? I know Flit loves a good scallion pajeon from time to time. I have just the recipe for it!" I grin and run upstairs to retrieve my recipe book, and Jackie begins chopping green onions as I mix together the dough. "This is so easy to make, and we can store any extras in our freezer to make later on!" I say, and we both laugh knowing that there won't ever be any leftovers. One by one our friends come downstairs, enlightened by the amazing smell wafting into their rooms. I set down the last of the pajeon on the table before looking at everyone. "Enjoy! Jackie helped me out and I think this'll be the best rice you've ever tasted!" I take my own seat and begin to serve out the rice.

"This is amazing guys thanks! I guess today wasn't so bad after all!" Dash smiles, and the whole table goes silent as we enjoy our food.
