Chapter 33
When I wake up, the last thing I expect to see is that it's still dark outside. Sadly, it's true. Without realizing it, I look over to my left to check what time it is. Oh wait - we don't have any power. Reeeeeeal good, Twi. Nice job. You are such an idiot.
Next to me, Mitch sighs in his sleep. I smile, but my thoughts are rudely interrupted by what sounds like a dying walrus. Surveying the room (surveying the scene!!! Ahem... Sorry. Lifeguard joke.) I find out it was just Peony waking up.
Sighing, I take out my phone and turn it on. Looking around, I make sure I'm not bothering anyone else (they're still sleeping) and log in. Let's see.... It's... Five in the morning? Are you serious? Can I not get any sleep? It seems not, so I get out of my sleeping bag and head to the kitchen to get a drink of water. Except.... My wings feel strange. Almost as if I sprained them or something.
Checking behind my back, I see it's just the feathers ruffled and messed up a bit. Okay, messed up a lot. Yay.... I guess I'll have to do some "grooming" later. Not that it's a bad thing, it just takes pretty much forever to get done.
Taking a sip of some nice, cool water, I look over the room (ALWAYS survey the scene!!!) and find a box of granola bars. Oh wait - they're oat bars. Yesssssss.... I am so lucky to have night vision. Otherwise I'd have never found one of my most favorite snacks!
Silently squealing to myself, I bring the box out to the living room and leave it on a nearby table. Taking one for myself, I head up to my room to do a little "light"reading. AKA reading every single book I own over again.
It is at that time that I remember that I've mastered my magic well enough to get a little light in my room. Or, at least, light a few candles. Laying down on the floor, I arrange the candles in a half circle around me, making sure to get light on every single part of the pages. Now my adventures begin.
I get through eleven books (not that I was counting or anything) before I hear footsteps. Peeking out of my room, I see two figures walking down the hallway towards me. But.... Wasn't everyone asleep? As they get closer, I realize who was talking towards me. Now I feel stupid.... Running up to them, I surround them both in giant hugs before pulling away.
"Hey, what are you guys doing here?" I ask, smiling.
"Mitch invited us. He thought it would be nice for us to finally meet you." Vikk replies, and next to him Lachlan just smiles. So of course he invited Vikklan. After all, who wouldn't? After a few minutes of silence, they notice my wings.
"So they are real!" Lachlan sighs in awe. Next to him, Vikk just stares at me, not sure what to say.
"Yeah. They are." I answer. "Sorry for not really grooming them today yet, but this is pretty much what they look like. Just kind of imagine them with neater feathers." I reply to Lachlan's response. Sometimes they can be so unobservant...... I'm not even sure that anyone knows they're here yet. Oh well, they're just going to have to deal with being with me longer. Not that it's a bad thing, of course.
"Oh, Twi. We didn't come alone - we want to introduce you to someone." And with that, Lachlan pulls out a guy with brown hair and a few freckles on his face.
"Hi, I'm Conner!" Squealing, he gives me a hug. Wow, I can already tell this guy is optimistic. Grinning, I fly into the air, making my way to the stairway. Motioning with my hand, I start leading them down to everyone else.
"We're going to see everyone else. Even though they are still sleeping. Because why not." I stop flying when I hear the stomping behind me. Turning around, I give them each a nice glare. Connor is nice enough to walk quieter, however Lachlan and Vikk have a contest of who can get down the stairs the LOUDEST. Let's just say that you couldn't tell who won.
We all walk into the living room, where everyone is still asleep. Really? I can't imagine why (and I mean REALLY)! The guys were STOMPING DOWN THE STAIRS? How does no one hear that?!? Whatever, I won't question it. Turning around, I wait for them to join me before throwing a few pillows and blankets in their direction.
"Ummmm.... Who gets what?" Conner asks, sneaking glances at the others.
"Eh...... You can fight for it." I reply, smirking as Connor's expression turns evil. He immediately jumps into the pile and grabs whatever he can from Vikk. Poor Vikk - he wasn't even close to getting anything.
Eventfully, after squeals, pushing, and shouts of "MINE" they manage to decide up everything. Well, that took long enough! Somehow, no ones woken up yet. Even after all that. Geez, how tired were they? To live through a massacre in the same room as them and not wake up they must have been pretty tired last night.
Leaving the boys in the living room, I see I was wrong about something. Mitch has been gone this entire time. Oh no.... If he tries to pull a jump scare on me I will personally kick him out of the house. Walking in the kitchen, I find.... Mitch! Eating an oat bar. I smirk and walk up to him, also grabbing an oat bar.
Before I know it, we...... Ate them all. Dash walks in, eyeing us both suspiciously before making her way over. Putting her hand in the box, she glares at me when she realizes the box is empty.
"Sorry...." I smirk, and she sighs in frustration.
"Awwwwww.... Come on! You could have at least saved me ONE!" Dash starts fake-crying, and I just lose it. Laughing and waving my hand, I give her three oat bars, which she quickly snatched up and takes back to the living room.
Wait - if I can make food appear, will we ever have to go shopping again? Or will Jackie grow us some food? Or will we just go to the store anyway? Whatever. I'm just overthinking everything again. Mitch comes up from behind and hugs me to his chest.
"Hey, Twi, can you get me more oats?" He whispers in my ear, earning a long sigh from me.
"Fiiiiiiiiine......." I give him a giant bowl of oats and walk out into the living room where I see Dash getting ready to do a vlog. Sitting down on the floor next to her, she holds up the camera and we both look as awake as humanly possible. Or maybe it's half-humanly possible? Whatever - overthinking again.
"Hey, what's goin' on guys, it's Dash and Twi here, and welcome to a randomly-timed vlog! Today's special is a sleeping cactus." Turning the camera to show Preston (who is currently sleeping) she zooms up on his nose for a second. Oh no... No wait..... "If you guys like this video, make sure to hit the like button with your nose. Yes, that's right. Not your hand, not your mouse, not your forehead - your nose." Oh gosh the pun is real.... I snicker to myself as she turns the camera back to us before I resume my "serious" face.
"It's currently 5:55 in the morning, and we got to bed a few hours ago. That's why everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, is currently passed out on the floor." I take the camera from her and pan it across the room. "Oh, and some veeeeery speeeeecial people showed up not even an hour ago."
Dash takes the camera back from me, who lets it linger on Lachlan, Vikk, and Conner. They smile and wave at the camera. Well, they try. Lachlan gets pushed off his chair by Vikk, in which Connor forgets what he is doing (aka saying hi) and goes to push Vikk off his chair. Well, isn't this going well? Suddenly, Mitch walks out of the kitchen, his face full of oats. Turning off the camera, Dash tries her hardest not to laugh.
"You look like a SQUIRREL!" Vikk snorts. I guess Mitch really liked those oats, because I have to agree with Vikk - he looks exactly like a squirrel. I'm not kidding- there is resemblance there!
"What's going on?" Next to us, Preston apparently woke up. Probably because we were too loud. Whoops? "MITCH! YOU LOOK...... GREAT?" We all jump at his sudden outburst, but then start laughing. See, even Preston knows that Mitch, looking like a squirrel, will get upset if you call him anything but the squirrel that he is.
Sadly, it's short-lived, as Mitch attempts to swallow all the oats. After a few tries, he manages to swallow most of them. About a handful lands on the floor, in which Lachlan promptly throws them back at Mitch.
The two begin a fight over the oats, but Dash decides to end the vlog instead. While the boys are distracted by acting good in front of the camera, I clean up every last oat and dispose of the bowl in the kitchen.
Peony appears without a good morning when I notice something is off. Behind her she is dragging..... Oh no. No no no no no..... A karaoke machine?!? Whyyyyyy?... I see Dash glance at Jackie before the two of them run over and attack the machine. Hiding various parts around the room, they nod at each other on satisfaction before poking a shocked Peony.
Okay, maybe shocked isn't the word. How about stunned, confused, and scared? I mean, if they can do that to a machine... Imagine what they could do to you! I shudder just thinking about it and Mitch comes behind me and gives me a hug. Wait - how did he know...? While I am once again contemplating the meaning of life Dash starts to end the vlog.
"Well, I hope you enjoyed this vlog, and if you did be sure to slap dat like button." Meanwhile, Adam attempts to sneak up on Dash from behind. I guess he just woke up, because he stumbles and stubs his toe on a chair. Crying out in an ear splitting scream before he has a chance to try and scare Dash, he squeals a bit and grabs his toe, jumping around in pain. Limping over to Dash, he puts a hand on her shoulder before speaking.
"Now, then, this is very important. You can't just TAP the like button, oh no. You need to HIT that button with your NOSE. Okay? No itty bitty presses with a finger or something." He lectures, trying not to start crying from the pain he still feels in his toe. "You hit that button as hard as you can with your NOSE. Got it? Good." He does half a laugh (well, as much of a laugh you can do while in pain) and limps away out of the camera sight. I come up behind Dash, wanting to do the final outro with her.
"Yeah, just listen to Adam." I tell the camera, as serious as I possibly can while Adam starts crying behind me.
"You know you want to...." Dash whispers and stares deeply at the camera, as if she and it had a very, very deep relationship. "Anyway, thanks for watching, and I'll see you guys later. Bye!" Waving to the camera, she stops recording and turns to face Adam.
"So.... Vlog?" He asks, in the midst of tears and holding his toe.
"Ummm.... Adam... Did you break your toe or something? It shouldn't hurt that much." Flying over, I attempt to take his hands off of the "poor injured toe" but he refuses enough to a point that I can't get any progress.
"No! I know it's not broken, because I've broken this specific toe before and this is a different type of pain." He says. Or at least I think that's what he says. It's kind of hard to understand someone while they're crying..... And crying... And.. CRYING.
I guess I have no choice to believe him. After all, the person who knows the pain the best is the person that is in that pain... Sighing, I fly up to Dash who was taking pictures from the ceiling and bring out my phone to join her. Even with his "semi-broken toe" Adam manages to do some poses, attempting to look like a model. Snickering, Dash and I spam the picture buttons, trying to get as many pictures as possible while Adam changes poses.
"So... Ummm... You'll delete those... Right?" Adam gives us both a look of defeat - and pain - while we both shake out heads.
"Sorry, Adam, these are too priceless to throw away." Dash tries to explain to him while we both put our phones away, the paparazzi away fading from Adam-the-model. As I fly back to the kitchen to get a drink of water, I suddenly hear Jackie behind me.
"Oh my GOSH, these apples are a-ma-zing!" I turn around to look at her, but no one's there. I'm alone in the hallway, hearing Jackie's voice. Maybe I'm hallucinating?
"Party!!! I bet they will love my new confetti colors!" Peony screams, and I wince and put my hands over my ears. What the heck is going on?!? Deciding to head up to my room in hopes for some peace and quiet, I quickly fly up the stairs and down the hallway as fast as I possibly can. Turning a corner, I hear another voice.
"Twi? Where are you?" Dash asks me, and I gasp and slam into a wall. Oh... That's going to leave a nice mark.... Picking myself off the floor, I turn around expecting to see Dash. Once again, no one's there. I have got to be hallucinating.
"Twi, you're not hallucinating! Come to my room darling!" Unicity tries to comfort me, and I give in to her words. Heading over to her room, I see all the girls have gathered and are patiently looking at me.
"What?" I ask them, but they just keep looking at me. "What?"
"Twi... Have you been hearing voices in your head recently?" Flit asks, a suspicious tone accompanying her words.
"Uh, yes, but how would you know that?" I turn to Dash, looking for an explanation.
"We think we've gotten telepathy. After all, haven't you been hearing our voices in your head?" She looks at me expectedly, as if she seems to know what my answer will be.
"Yeah, I have but... I didn't tell you tha-"
"I knew it! Somehow, we've all been connected telepathically and can now talk to each other through our minds!" Jackie looks over at me smugly. "We've been hearing your voice too." Wait - how is that possible...? I calculated everything already and nothing adds up...
"Darling, I don't know, but isn't this exciting?" Gosh dang it. If this is real then she just heard what I was thinking.
"Okay, so how do I keep you guys from reading my thoughts?" I fold my arms over my chest, not really sure how to react.
"Just think like you're building a wall around your thoughts. Make it strong enough, and we can't break in and read them." Dash smirks at me, but I can't tell what she's thinking. Wait - I can't tell! That means.... She built up a wall.
"So, um, girls, what should we call this, uh, thing we've gotten?" Flit hesitantly asks, and I look over to her.
"How about... Mindcom? It's like an intercom system, but with our minds!" Everyone awes and nods with their heads to signify their acceptance of my idea. "But still, how....?"
"I have to admit something to you guys.... I've... Had this ever since you all have gotten your magic and wings." Our mouths drop open in shock as we stare at her with wide eyes.
"But... Why didn't you tell me? I could have analyzed it so long ago! Wait - does that mean you've had this for a MONTH?!?" I hope she hasn't heard anything I said about..... Never mind, not important.
"WAIT. HAS SHE HEARD ABOUT ME AND JEROME......?!?!?!?" Flit screams through her mind, and all of us since and cover our ears. You know, as if it actually did anything.
"Well, I'm sure if she didn't she sure does NOW!" Dash falls to the ground laughing so hard that she starts crying. However, my mind is only on one thing.
"Okay, I'm sure this is amazing and all, but how is this possible? HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!?"
Hi everyone! I am so SO sorry that it's taken me so long to update this story, but here it is! I've just been so busy with school (and working over the summer) that I haven't really had enough time to fit writing into my schedule. Luckily, I do have those brief moments where I can add a bit and continue the current chapter of the story.
Anyway, I will be working on updating again, don't worry! There are more updates coming in the future! I guess that's all for now, so I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and I look forward to writing more!
-Chrissy
