Chapter 5
NO ONE'S POV
"Gosh," Taehyung cradled the baby boy in his arms, his eyes sparkling. "He's so..."
"Red," Yoongi finished flatly. "That kid is red,"
The younger boy slowly moved his head to give Yoongi a stony stare, before moving his attention back to his newborn brother.
"Cute. He's so cute,"
Li-na sat in the corner, watching how gently and carefully Taehyung handled the baby.
It was as though he was afraid to break it.
"Taehyungie, stop hogging your brother and let Yoongi and Li-na hold him," Jenna said, weakly smiling at them from where she lay in bed. Yeji was sat next to her, getting up occasionally to bring her water or cake.
Taemu and Yoonseok were in the other room, deciding to let the kids and womenfolk talk.
Taehyung passed the boy to Yoongi, who stared at it blankly, before passing him to Li-na.
"Wow," she grinned excitedly, "Aunty, he looks so much like you,"
"Really?" She laughed. "When Tae was a baby, everyone said that too, but now he's literally a copy of his father,"
"I hope this one looks like you, Aunt,"
"Me too,"
"So, what's his name?" Yeji asked. "Weren't you thinking Min-tae?"
"We were going to call him that, but changed to Jeon Gyu at last minute,"
"Kim Jeon Gyu," Li-na said. "It suits him,"
"Right?"
A few minutes passed, until Jenna whispered something to Yeji and closed her eyes.
"Alright, kids, you've held Gyu for long enough," Yeji said, clapping her hands. "Go in the other room now. Jenna's going to get some rest,"
The children nodded, Li-na handing Jeon Gyu back to Taehyung, who put him in his cradle.
They exited the room and went into the lounge, Yoongi and Taehyung sitting opposite each other and plunging into a conversation about some sort of business.
Li-na slumped into a single chair next to Yoongi, looking around boredly.
She stared at a vast picture adorning the wall, picking up titbits of the exchange between her brother and his best friend.
"Contracted, I made sure of it..."
"Think there'll be a company dinner, soon-"
"I'm thinking of hiring a new department manager for Unit 4..."
The conversation became more and more interesting and soon, she was focusing her whole attention on it.
"I told him if he couldn't, there'd be a gun at his throat. I guess he didn't believe me," Taehyung chuckled darkly, brushing back his thick, wavy hair.
"Serves him right. Did his wife run away?"
"Nope," he popped the 'p', smirking with the most unholy look on his face. "She tried seducing me,"
Yoongi rolled his eyes, fiddling with the chain of a thin silver bracelet that hung from his wrist. "What the fuck?"
"Exactly. Who'd think she would drop to her knees as soon as her husband died? At that, to his killer? If my future wife did that, I'd stab her to death in her next life,"
"Hmm," Yoongi agreed. Silence fell in the room as both boys glanced at Li-na, who pretended to play a game on her phone.
Seriously, she thought while they watched her. Go back to talking-
"Whatcha doing, Li?"
She cursed in her head, looking up at Taehyung with steady eyes.
"Playing a game. Why?"
He stared at her from under lowered eyelids, propping his elbow up on his knee and resting his chin in his palm.
"No reason,"
She rolled her eyes, diverting her attention to her phone at a message that popped up.
"Who's that?" Yoongi asked, leaning over to look at her phone.
"I don't know," she frowned, reading the message again.
Hello, Li.
I see you're having fun with that so-called brother of yours.
Who's the guy opposite you? Your crush, perhaps?
Taehyung sat up straight, seeing the concerned look on Yoongi's face and the slightly afraid frown on Li-na's.
She glanced around the room and shut off her phone before shaking her head.
"Seriously, Jungkook," she sighed, her voice a mixture of relief and irritation. "Come out,"
The bunny-looking boy laughed, emerging from behind the windows curtains.
Yoongi stood up, his eyes dark and menacing. "Come on, Jeon Jungkook, don't scare us like that, you fucker,"
Taehyung, still confused, piped up. "Guys?"
Jungkook sat down on an armchair, still giggling.
"Gosh, you all looked terrified,"
Li-na pushed him from where she was sat, annoyed.
"Don't do that,"
"What?! Come on, it was just a prank!"
The siblings simultaneously rolled their eyes.
"Anyways, how'd you even get in? Have you seen Aunt and Gyu?"
"Oh, yeah, I have," Jungkook smiled. "I came with the others, but they went to your dad and Uncle Kim, so I decided to try scaring you all,"
He snickered, looking at his Hyung's. "I guess it worked,"
Yoongi threw dagger eyes at him, getting up and going to the kitchen to make coffee for himself.
Li-na pushed her phone into her pocket, standing up and looking at the two boys.
"I'm gonna head home, now," she said, before bowing a little at Taehyung. "Tell your mom I'm saying congrats,"
"Want me to drop you?" He offered.
She thought about it for a second.
I don't want to be stuck in a car with him, but Mr. Choi will be asleep... I don't want to wake him.
"O- okay," she picked up her handbag. "Let's go,"
He nodded, getting up and signalling for her to wait by the door for him.
TAEHYUNG'S POV
I slung on a black overcoat, sticking my feet in a pair of ankle boots and going down to where Li-na was stood, waiting.
I noticed how my black turtleneck and suit pants matched her long sleeve, sweetheart neckline dark dress, and slyly smirked.
"Come along, darling," I said airily, opening the front door and heading out.
She followed me in confusion, looking up at me as I started walking.
"Where's your car?"
"With the mechanics," I raised my eyebrows, poking her thigh. "I'm sure we can walk,"
She slapped my hand away. "Okay,"
We walked in silence, me directing her in which ways to go.
"Taehyung," she said, flicking my arm slightly.
"Hm?"
"Is it hard? Mafia work, I mean?"
I made a thinking sound with my throat, kicking a random rock on the ground.
It is hard. Extremely hard.
Constantly watching people die, constantly being betrayed by people you trust, constantly having to protect those that you love from rival Mafia families and enemies.
"Not really," I lied, sticking my hands in my pockets. "Annoying, sometimes, but not hard,"
"Oh," she mused. "Taehyung..."
"Yes?"
"Do you think Yoongi and my dad will let me be a part of the Mafia?"
"Why?" I asked, imagining her in a black jumpsuit, a gun at her waist.
Okay, it was a hot sight. But still.
"Just," she sighed. "I'm sick of seeing everyone around me working hard to keep me safe, and not being able to protect myself,"
"If you like, I can teach you how to handle a gun," I suggested.
This was quite nice. Annoying and teasing her was amusing, but just talking normally... It was okay.
"Would you? You sure you wouldn't accidentally point the gun at me instead?" She teased.
Welp, there goes the whole 'speaking normally' thing.
"Watch it," I mocked. "I will, if you annoy me too much,"
"I know how to make someone disappear from this world and I don't mind it being you, you know,"
"How can you make me disappear?" I laughed. "You're almost half my height,"
"Don't underestimate me," she warned.
"Oh? I doubt you can even put a mark on- SHIT, OUCH!"
I doubled over as she kicked my shin, hands on her hips and grinning
"That should leave a mark, right?"
"Fuck you and your stupid pointy boots," I groaned in reply, limping along beside her.
She giggled, before swiping accept on her phone as it rang and putting it to her ear.
"Hello? Who is this?" She said, before stiffening.
"What? What's up?" I said, quickly snatching the phone from her and putting it on speaker.
She glared at me, grabbing the phone again and muting it quickly.
"Can you shut up for a second?" She hissed.
I frowned as she unmuted the call, speaking in this soft voice.
"Hello? Seonbae?"
A boy's voice came out, making me stop and stare at the phone.
"Li-na? This is Kai,"
She smiled widely, a hand clamped at her hem of her dress.
"Oh, Kai Seonbae," she said sweetly. "How are you? Is there something you need?"
He chuckled. "No, no. I was just calling to tell you to save my number,"
The grip on her dress tightened. "O-oh? Okay,"
"Aren't you going to ask how I got your number?" He laughed, making me grit my teeth.
He sounded like an asshole.
I snaked my arm around Li-na's waist, pulling her and her phone closer to me.
"Yes, darling," I cooed. "Aren't you going to ask how he got your number?"
"T- Taehyung-"
"Oh," the voice went kind of flat. "I didn't... I didn't know you had a boyfriend,"
"Kai!" She said desperately. "I don't-"
I hung up, shoving her phone in my pocket.
"Kim Taehyung!" She exploded, tugging at my coat. "Give me back my phone!"
I tossed it at her, glowering as she went to save that boy's number.
"Why would you do that!?" She glared, tearing away from my grip. "Now he's got the wrong idea!"
"Shut up, Li-na," I snarled, stopping outside of her house.
It seemed we'd gotten there a lot quicker than expected.
She scowled up at me. "Don't tell me to shut up. How am I supposed to explain to him that I don't have a boyfriend now?"
"Oh, I'm sure you'll live," I sneered. "Your 'Seonbae' will understand, I'm sure,"
"Fuck off," Li-na turned away from me, walking into the mansion and slamming the door.
I stormed off, getting into one of Yoongi's sport cars that lay outside and turning it on using the spare key he'd given me.
As I sped off the premise and in the direction of my home, I rang up Namjoon, who answered almost immediately.
"Taehyung? What's up?"
"Hyung, can you get information on someone for me?"
"Sure. Who?"
"Some bastard named Kai. Same school as Jungkook, presumably a last year student,"
"Got it. I'll have everything by tomorrow,"
"Thank you, Hyung,"
I parked up outside my penthouse and went in, going straight to the wine cellar and pouring myself a glass of vintage red wine.
I downed the entire glass in one go, unable to pinpoint exactly why I felt so pissed off.
Min Li-na.
What are you doing to me?
---------------
Someone's jealous~
I'm sorry to have to say this, but unfortunately the next few chapters may be delayed in updating, because of personal reasons.
For about a week or so, my story will be not be updated, or updated once or twice.
How's life?
Taehyung is kinda trustfrating in this chapter, I know.
Can't believe this chapter took me about 2 hours to write, damn-
Happy reading!
