Chapter 18

~Natsu's POV

"One, two, three!" I yelled and a group including me stormed into an old factory. This was one of their basements.

Jellal found information about their basements and I concluded that we would first go to the less used basements. We looked around, making sure to check every corner in case it was a trap.

I flicked the light on and grimaced at what I saw. Everything was old and the only colour was black and grey. Dust particles were flying everywhere with every step we took.

We looked around and searched for any information. I found some money on the table and carefully looked at it. I tore it apart and stomped on it. Stupid piece of shit.

A gun shot was fired and I looked around. Macao shot something. "What was it?" I asked.

"A camera, it was on," he responded with a grimace.

I gritted my teeth. "They were expecting us."

This was the fourth basement already and no trail.

Gray came from upstairs. "No one found. Not a single clue about Nash's whereabouts either."

I sighed, as expected. Raven Tail may be weaker than us, but they aren't stupid.

I was with a small group of males. Jake came from behind with an angry frown on his face.

"Why the fuck are we putting so much effort in finding a hopeless kid who doesn't even know how cruel our world can be?"

My hands clenched. I forgot why I decided to take him with me. Nash perfectly knows the world is not perfect. He is smart for his age, almost seven.

He noticed my expression but he still continued.

"I understand you want him back because he is your son. But you know the possibility that he is already dead, right?" He dusted off his pants, looking me dead in the eye.

I know. I know everything he just said.

I'm not stupid. I know the chance. I know they can kill him within a click of their finger.

And as if the feeling isn't enough he smirked. "You went so soft years back, because of our Lady. The face you made when you heard she was pregnant. Oh, your face, it was as if you were the happiest man on earth. But you above everyone should know happiness won't last."

I glared at my supposed to be fellow. "Shut up."

"See? Immediately defensive about your precious people."

I let out a humorless chuckle. "You must feel so good right now, going against me."

"The look on your face is worth it."

Laxus pulled me back before I was planning on murdering him. He just joined because he was bored. He has amazing fighting skills but aside that he doesn't have respect.

He only has respect for himself, and normally I don't care. But if he says one stupid thing...

"Chill out, Natsu," Laxus whispered in my ear and dragged me away from him. I pulled away from Laxus.

I directed my attention to Jake. "Make fun of my protectiveness one more time and you'll see how far our tattoo will protect you."

He smiled mockingly. "Yes boss."

I stood up straight, crossing my arms. "Why did you decide to join Fairy Tail again?"

He clenched his jaw, looking me deadly in the eyes.

"Wasn't it because your little brother was financially dependent on you, while you had no source of income? That's why you took the dark path, right? Eventually you found us, no?"

"Shut up, shut up"—he began advancing towards me, probably wanting to attack me—"shut up. You know nothing—"

He got held back by Macao, his arm in front of him.

I walked closer to him, all my men watching the tension between us unfold. "Stay alert," I called out blindly. If something like this is going on, we still have to be on guard.

Some men turned away, looking around, focusing on any sudden sound.

"What's your point?" Jake asked, scowling. "You can't kill me for no reason."

I smirked, shaking my head. "As if stupid rules ever stopped me. Either way, we're the reason you can support your brother. Is it really that smart to risk that by defying me?"

He looked away, making my eyes narrow. In a swift move I grabbed him by his throat and made him look at me.

"Don't look away when I'm talking to you. My actions are made to protect my loved ones. Searching for Nash is my decision and something you should support, whether you agree or not. If you're not ready to do so, then leave, but I cannot guarantee you'd make it out alive. You know too much for me to just let you go."

I would never let someone leave. They swore an oath to me and to the family.

Laxus pushed him on his knees, making him hiss from the sudden movement. Luckily he was smart enough not to move and just comply.

"Understood?"

Jake closed his eyes tightly before looking at me, clenching his hands. He was shaking a little bit, finally realizing his words have consequences. "Yes. Forgive me for my rudeness," he bit out.

I turned away, satisfied. "Forgiven."

I looked at everyone. "Let's go. And let this make clear that you have the choice whether you come with me on these missions or not. If you don't, that's fine. I have enough men who'd be willing to."

I went in my car and drove to the mafia. Although I said most basements were a three hour drive, this one just took an hour. When we will look for more, the best option is renting a hotel nearby.

I was almost home when suddenly police cops were behind me, following me.

I groaned. "Why now?" I went to the side of the road and stopped there. Laxus drove past me and I gave him a nod.

He had a knowing look and then drove further with the other boys behind him.

I rolled down the window and a cop came. "Sir, we have strict orders to arrest you."

I put on my poker face like always. "For what reason?"

He opened my door, dragged my out and turned my back towards him. This bastard had the audacity to put handcuffs on me.

Soon I felt his breathing on my ear, "Don't talk bullshit to me. I am going to make sure you are going to jail."

Just then he almost pushed me into his police car. I can't fight him. There are people, he is an officier and I don't want a fucking bad name.

The ride to the police station was silent and as soon as I was there I could make one call.

I picked the old-fashioned phone and thought about who I would call.

Laxus probably informed everyone already . That was the nod we gave each other. I looked at my right where the cop stood. He was smirking at me.

"We don't have all day. Hurry up and call someone. Then we will be taking you to court and you're going to rot in jail."

I glared at him. "I need my lawyer."

He gasped, a bored look on his face. "No really? Call someone already."

I dialed Gray's number. I looked at him in my eye corners. "And as if I will go to jail. I have more important things I need to do now. You don't even have evidence. I don't even know why I'm here."

"I can bribe the jury."

I snorted. "I am the richest man of the country, don't make fun of me."

"Oh, and I do have prove. I followed you throughout all these years. Nice work, not suspicious at all."

"What are you talking about?" I said, playing dumb just to piss him off.

"I want justice in the world. I want the bad guys prisoned and the good guys free."

I gave him a ridiculous look. "Keep dreaming buddy. The world is full of bad guys and you can't change it alone."

I didn't press call yet, too busy in the conversation with him.

"I have found enough prove to put you in prison for a lifetime."

I gritted my teeth. I am getting real frustrated at everything right now. "You are fucking kidding me. You want justice so you became officer?"

They nodded. The woman wanted me in jail so badly. She was also with the guy who arrested me. Probably partners. Cute.

"Then why the fuck aren't you guys doing your job. Rape happens a lot and you guys accuse the victims and the culprit is set free. What is that for justice? Criminals set free after one year prison because of their 'good' behavior? Bullshit. There are so many culprits in this world and they aren't going to jail. Instead you let them go because there isn't enough evidence when there clearly is. The police is a shit system."

I probably hit a spot because a fire burnt in the cop's eyes. Tiny little bits, but enough for me to see.

"We are trying what we can. We aren't perfect but you are definitely far from it. You'll always be a mafia leader and when we found that file we knew our guesses were right."

I raised my eyebrows, surprised they knew I was a mafia leader, surprised they dared to tell me: Most leaders are known, but then they had to make sure to stay hidden. My alibi was Dragneel Inc.

Funny enough, I had zero ounces of fear in my body.

They do piss me off though, probably so I could spill some secrets.

"You don't know me. You know what I want? I want my family safe at all cost. I don't kill," that part I lied, "But if you hurt any of my family I won't hesitate to take revenge."

She also stared coldly at me. "Whatever the reason you'll be prisoned. Now call someone."

I pressed call and Gray's voice quickly went through. "I need you to go further. Don't worry about me but work on the project. It's extremely important and you know it. I don't know how long I will be here," I began and then glared at them in my eye corners, "But for sure I will be out here in no time."

After some other things I asked. "How's Lucy? Is she okay?"

"Uhh..." Gray's voice was full of hestitation.

"What the fuck is wrong with my wife?"

He sighed. "Look Natsu. She is going through a rough time, we all do. But she of all the people needs support. And the only support she wants is from you."

My hand went tighter against the phone and I pictured Lucy crying on bed, a pillow in her arms, knees up and her face in her knees. I need her support too.

"I know."

Then the connection was broken.

The cops smirked and dragged me into a cell where I have to stay till further notice.

"I give you three hours, Lucy," I said smiling.

Two hours later I heard some voices. I was lying on the bed, hands behind my head and eyes closed. I normally just ignore the voices, but this time I didn't.

I felt a fimiliar wave of aura near me.

"He has done nothing. Get. Him. Out," a voice said and I think she was angry.

I smirked when I finally recognized the voice.

My eyes shot open and I sat up. My head was filled with pride and I love her so much.

Soon Lucy stood by my cell bars and I looked up to her. She had a frown on her face that made her look cute.

She crossed her arms. "You brought yourself into trouble, Natsu, again."

I rolled my eyes slightly but with a smile. Soon the same female cop came and opened the cell.

"You are free to leave," she muttered.

I smirked and stood up. "Why the sudden change?"

"Your lawyer spoke with us and explained some things that made our minds change... for now. But let me make this clear. If I find out you murdered someone again I will sue you."

"Then sue me already. Or not. Maybe I will murder you and prevent court at all."

The look I was giving her was cold and emotionless. Her eyes widened a little bit and she stepped back.

"Till we meet again," I said, half grinning and laughing at her expression. How much she wants to deny it, she is afraid of me. "I was joking by the way," I quickly added, snickering.

I stepped out of the cell. The cop left me alone. Lucy's frown turned into a lazy smile.

"You knew I was going to get you, didn't you?"

I nodded and swung an arm around her, "Duh. And I could finally clear my mind with nobody around me."

We walked out of the police station. Some cops gave me nasty looks. Made me think of Gajeel. They definitely don't compare against him though. I saw some of my men, who nodded subtly at me.

"What did you think of?" Lucy asked me.

I closed my eyes for a split second. "That looking for the basements are useless. We have to look and think outside of the box."

We went inside the car Erza drove. I gave her a quick nod and returned to Lucy. She raised her eyebrow for me to continue.

"I'll ask Levy is she could hack into their system."

She sighed. "She's definitely the smartest person I know, but I doubt if she will able to do it. It may take days."

I looked out of the window, my eyes passing by all the people walking in the city.

"I know she can do it," was my response.

Lucy smiled halfly and then leaned against my shoulder.

We soon arrived at the mafia and I immediately stormed into my office.

Jellal and Gray were already there. I didn't talk to any of them and went on my computer.

I checked my daily mails of bullshit. People advertising their shit etc.

Then I got a mail from anonymous. I opened it and there was a video attached.

My heart stopped beating for a second. I opened it and watched it. The black screen went white and then went sharp.

"Guys," I breathed out while watching it. They came behind me and I heard a faint 'oh shit.'

It was a video of Nash tied to a chair in the middle of a dark room. He had tears in his eyes and his mouth was gagged with a cloth.

Then two guys came with masks and walked to him. One looked in the camera and I just knew he was smirking. "Payback, Dragneel. Only ten times worse," he said.

Then he began beating and kicking Nash. Soon they untied him and he fell to the ground. He was screaming, and crying for help.

Jellal immediately dialed someone, "Gajeel, come to Natsu's office with Levy, immediately."

Gray also called someone, "Zeref, get Mavis and Erza."

I didn't say anything.

"Mommy, daddy."

I put my hands together while watching this. Sadness going through me. I wasn't there to help him. I wasn't there to say I will watch over him.

Fuck!

I am not good in anything. I always bring my family in danger. And now I cannot do anything. I'm pathetic.

Someone grabbed Nash by his throat. I gripped my desk hard at the sight. He was choking Nash. The moment I get my hands on every fucker who dared to touch my son will encounter my full wrath.

"You feel this, little boy?"

Nash tried to talk but he couldn't. He tried to get those hands off him, no use. He wanted air, but struggling way too much than a normal person would ever have to.

"This is what your father made me feel, only worse."

He threw Nash on the ground as if he was an object.

Nash wiped off the blood on his face and he still managed to glare at the 2 people. "W-whatever he d-did... he must have... a g-good reason," he choked out.

Oh Nash, don't stand up for me, save your breath.

"Sure," the person mocked him and then punched Nash hard. He was knocked out and I sighed. Then the video ended. The video was 5 minutes, Nash held out for 5 minutes.

Nash, I mean it. Hold on, I know you can do it.

A ball of mixed feelings, it all went through me. I knew Gray and Jellal could feel it. They stepped back.

I was breathing loudly, my eyes were narrowed and a glare was on my face.

I sucked in a lot of air.

"THOSE BASTARDS ARE DEAD!"

I knew the whole mafia must have heard me. If not, then they are deaf.

Jellal put a hand on me shoulder, "Breath Natsu. We know you will take revenge. No need to shout. We are behind you."

Always the calm one, unfortunately I could never act like him.

I took one last glance at Nash. Lying on the floor and not moving. Some blood spilled on the floor.

I stood up and threw my fucking books on the paper and the vase I got from someone I forgot.

Glass shattering could be heard.

Nash has to endure this, because of me, because of what and who I am. People want me, so they take whatever I have close.

And Nash was the perfect one to hurt me indirectly. My heir, my son, my blood.

Gray came next to me and he also had a cold look on his face. "Whatever reason they have for bringing a kid, more specifically Nash, into this, we will make sure their deaths are painful, that's a promise."
