Ch. 4 Blood Doesn't Make Family
"You don't have anyone to love you cause you're just a stupid little orphan girl with no family!" the mean little boy yelled at her.
"Leave me alone," Catalina said, trying to hold back tears.
"What are you gonna do about it, make me? No, you're not. You're too little and weak! You don't even have a wolf! I bet you're not a wolf at all! That's why you smell so different! You're just a freak!" the boy said, shoving her into the wall.
A tear rolled down Catalina's cheek. She wiped it away with her shirt sleeve then she fixed an anger filled gaze on the little boy. Dylan, this mean eleven year old little boy, had been picking on her for three relentless weeks now. The worst was recess when no teachers were around to stop him. She didn't know how much more of it she could take.
"Leave me alone!" she said again, giving him such a hate filled stare it was a wonder he didn't burst into flames from the heat of it.
"Make me," he whispered into her ear as he yanked on her hair.
Her anger was boiling over. Suddenly, her whole body seemed to fill with a tremendous energy. She was so full of it she felt she would explode at any second if she didn't find a way to release it. She started to lift her hand and felt that energy rush down her arm towards it. She didn't know what the energy was or even really how to use. She just had her instincts, but she knew it was strong. She knew it could stop Dylan, but she also knew that it would probably hurt him.
Maybe she wanted to hurt him? She thought she did, but then, she thought of the Alpha who had been raising her with such kindness. If she hurt this boy, he would probably be upset with her. She didn't want him to be upset with her, so she yanked her arm back down to her side and ran away. As she rounded the corner of the building towards the playground, she ran into someone so hard it knocked her to the ground.
"Where are you going to in such a hurry, Catta?" Emmett asked with a chuckle.
She looked up at him, and he saw the tears running down her cheeks. The smile quickly disappeared as his face turned dark and stormy.
"Who did it, Catta? he asked, through his rage.
She glanced back in the direction she'd come from. Then she looked down at the ground and shook her head.
"That's all I needed to know," he said, having seen where she'd looked. "Go find Jax. He's over by the swings," he said, helping her off the ground.
Catalina ran for the swings. Emmett stalked off in the direction she'd unintentionally showed him. He quickly reached his destination and found three boys laughing together.
"Who did it?" he demanded.
No one answered, but the two boys both took a step back from Dylan. He didn't need any more information than that. The boy was known for being a bully. When he started towards him, Dylan took a step back, and his friends bolted towards the playground. Jax had just made it around the corner with Catalina not far behind him. He grabbed both of the runners by their shirts and held them in place.
"You should probably learn from this," Jax said, turning them around.
Emett socked the boy in the stomach, then pinned him to the wall and growled in his ear, "Don't ever touch, or speak, or even look in my sisters direction again! She's only eight years old. The next time you want to pick on someone, come find me. If I catch you near her again or see a single tear fall from her eyes, I will come find you, and we'll find out just how strong you are. Do you understand?"
The twins may have only been thirteen. But, when it came to wolves, they were able to transform for the first time at five and were full grown at the age of twelve. They were also sons of the alpha and had the extra strength that came with being future alpha's. Sons of Alpha's also started warrior training at the age of eight, where as most didn't start until they were ten. Dylan considered all of this, then gulped and nodded his head shakily. With only a year of training, most of which he hadn't really been paying attention to, even skipping it whenever he could. He knew he wouldn't stand a chance against them.
"The same goes for you too, guilty by association," Jax said, then released them. All three ran for the playground as fast as their legs could take them.
Emmett turned around to find Cattalina smiling the biggest smile he'd ever seen. Not a single trace of tears to be found.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" he asked with a chuckle.
"Sister, you said I was your sister," she said, then ran toward him and threw her arms around him.
"That's what you are to me Catta, its what you have always been and what you always will be," he said, hugging her back.
"Blood doesn't all ways make family," Jax said, coming over ttoget in on the hug.
"Now, how bout we blow the rest of the school day and go home and play board games and eat ice cream? Dad will understand," Emmett said, putting one arm around his sister and one around his brother.
Emmett searched for his dad when they got home. He found him in his study bent over some paperwork. He hated to interrupt, but fealt it was needed. He knocked lightly on the opened door. His dad looked up at him with a surprised expression.
"That time already," he asked, before looking down at the watch on his wrist.
"No,Sir. That's why I'm here. I brought us home early."
"And why is that?" Stephon asked, his brows furrowing in confusion.
"A boy was bullying Catalina, and I thought she needed a break," he answered, puffing out his chest a little in pride as he thought about how he'd defended her.
"Someone was picking on her? Who?" he asked, his knuckles tightening slightly in irritation. He would not tolerate bullies in his pack. They may have been children now, but they wouldn't stay that way, and when they were older, it would turn into something much worse.
"Dylan."
"I think I will go and have a talk with him and his parents," he said, standing up.
"I kinda already had a talk with him..." Emmett said, puffing his chest out a little more.
"Oh, you did, did you," the alpha said with a chuckle.
"Yes, sir. No one will be upsetting my sister like that."
The Stephon's eyebrows raised in suprised, and then he started to chuckle.
"I guess it makes sense that you see her that way. Do you think he got the point?"
"Yes, sir, I do."
"Did you hit him?"
"I... Well... I... She was crying and... Yes, Sir. I hit him in the stomach," the boy said, bowing his head slightly. He knew his father didn't condone unwarranted violence.
"Did he hit Catalina?"
"Uh, no, Sir. I don't think he did."
"Did you ask her?"
"No, Sir. I didn't waste the time."
"Time to learn the truth is never wasted," he said, looking his son in the eyes. "I'm not angry. You stood up for her. I'm not sure if you should have hit the boy or not because I wasn't there. I hope you made the right decision. As a possible future alpha, you need to make sure you are thinking your actions through and not just acting out of anger. You are stronger than most, but that doesn't mean you should always use it," he said sternly.
"Yes, Sir." he said, looking down at the floor.
"I want you to come see me every day after training for the next two weeks. You will shadow me. You will watch, you will listen, you will learn. I will also have Nicholas give you and Jax, as I'm sure he was involved even though you haven't mentioned him you're never far apart, a series of test on when to act and when not to. As far as the boy, Dylan, goes, I will have him doing extra training as well. We will train the bullying out of him as we will not tolerate such behavior. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, son. Now, as I have to go look into this extra training, I will see you at dinner. Your shadowing starts tomorrow. Understood?"
"Yes, Sir," Emmett answered, then went off to find his siblings.
Stephon ran a hand through his hair, then stood and went to find his first and second beta to see to the boys extra training.
He talked to his second beta about Dylan first, then he went to find Nicholas. He found him at the training grounds with some of his newer warriors. He was in the middle of kicking some major ass when he showed up. He had one warrior pinned down with his body weight while another was trying to sneak up on him. He kicked out with his leg, knocking the other warrior to the ground, and pinned him down with a hand around his throat, never relieving the pressure he had on the pup underneath him squiriming When the pups admitted defeat, he cleared his throat to get the beta's attention as they all got to their feet.
"Did you have to school them that badly?" Stephon asked when the beta joined him.
"They decided to get a little cocky after winning a few fights earlier, making them slack off in their training. I had to remind them there's always someone bigger and stronger to put them on there ass, to remind them why it's important," Nick answered, wiping sweat from his brow. "Did you need something, Sir? Or just checking progress?"
"Yes, there is actually. My children, I want the boys to be thourghly taught when to or not to act. And, Catalina, I want you to start her training, seeing as she's eight years old now," he answered.
"Really? I'm sure you remember most don't start until ten," the beta said, giving him a curious look.
"Yes, I'm sure. Most don't start until ten, but an alpha's children start at eight," he said with certainty.
"Ah, okay. Yes, Sir. I'll get her started right away, my mistake, for over looking that. I should've asked. Would you like for her to have more advanced training as well? Most females only get the basics unless they decide to continue, but as an alpha's daughter, she would be required to do more," he asked, feeling a little dumb asking. He knew Stephon knew training protocols, but the situation required full verification since she wasn't born to the alpha.
"Yes, I want her to have exactly what a daughter of my blood would have," he responded with a note of finality.
"Understood."
"It's possible she may even require a little more. I don't know. We will see how she progresses. So keep me informed."
"I'll do that," Nick said, with a nod of assurance.
