42. Becoming Fae

We are at a secluded part of the palace grounds. Aiden had fussed over me like a mother hen and ensured that I had a good night's sleep before waking me up at three thirty in the morning.

Giasemi was already waiting there, floating a few feet above the ground. They exchanged greetings before Aiden informed Giasemi that Henry would arrive in a few minutes to do physical training for me, and Giasemi would need to coordinate with him.

Giasemi did not seem pleased at all initially, but when Aiden assured her and informed her of the physical pursuits Henry has in store for me, she brightened up and told Aiden that she wanted to add a touch of Fae to them.

And that is how I end up rolling on the grass with laughter, clutching my stomach, panting as she looks at me, both amused and annoyed, while Henry glares at me. My beast is highly entertained. I was relieved when I sensed her presence.

She disappeared when we learnt that I was part fae, but then she made her appearance last night with renewed confidence and a zeal for owning her fae self.

Groaning, I get up to dust myself while my beast gives me words of encouragement. My first task is to sense auras, as Giasemi does.

She told me that I had to harness the power from my surroundings, from air, from the sunlight shining on us, from nature. Even from the stones and bricks. Literally every living and non-living thing on the ground.

I look at her confusedly, but she sighs and sits Indian style on the grass beneath us, motioning for me to do the same. Henry watches me from the sidelines. He is training a few gammas and betas on the mind link while keeping an eye on me.

The Weres are a few paces ahead of us, but their backs face us as Bill instructs them. I sigh and squat down, replicating her posture.

"Close your eyes Aurelia." Giasemi says, her eyes already closed.

It does not feel like she is training me. It feels more like what humans do: yoga. However, not willing to cross her, I do as she says and close my eyes.

"Ask your beast to close her eyes, too. Focus on your breathing and block out all the noises except my voice."

Huh. When I close my eyes, my beast can't see. How can my beast close her eyes from inside our mind? I think Giasemi has gone insane after meeting Adrian.

My sanity is very much alright. Thank you for the compliment, Aurelia.

My eyes fly open at the sound of my own voice but with a dual tone that echoes hers. It did not feel like the voice was coming in front of me. Rather, it is like she is mind linking me, but it is not her voice I hear. It is my voice but her words.

She opens her eyes as she continues echoing my brain with my voice but her words. Her lips are pursed into a thin line and her expression suggests she did not take my thoughts kindly.

I have already told you about the aura, Aurelia. When I tap into it, I have extreme control over your body and mind. I can make you do things, read your thoughts. You being part fae makes it easier.

Are all fae blessed with this? I wonder.

The answer is both yes and No. It is a matter of both lineage and strength. Think of it like the pack hierarchy. The Alpha is the strongest wolf in the pack. Similarly, the closer in line you are to the Fae royals, the more power you have.

But with time and practice, you can be as powerful as the Fae royals. But it takes a lot of tuning in nature. The more you read the Aura of each element of nature, the more powerful you are, the more perks you have. Now close your eyes and tell your beast to close her eyes too.

This time, I keep my thoughts to myself and do as I am told. I focus on my breathing and my beast sits in my mind, closing her eyes. At the beginning, I don't feel anything except the darkness clouding my vision.

'Now try seeing through your closed eyes. Both you and your beast. Try to see through closed eyes.'

Her words confuse me, but how can I see through my closed eyes?

'Feel Aurelia. By that, I don't mean your other four physical senses. I refer to something beyond that.'

I try to do as told. My beast, however, knows something as she paints our vision white. No, not even white. It is as if there is no sky, no earth, and nothing in front of us. I am surprised by my beast. I do not know how she is doing this, but I follow her lead.

Suddenly, I see all the colors filling in front of me. It is like millions of multicolored stars filling my vision. They are twinkling points of different colored lights.

'Open your eyes,' Giasemi says.

As I open my eyes slowly, I see Giasemi's outline. It is a solid white. The shape of her body is outlined in white. I am still able to see her features, but it is as if I am seeing her through a lens of stars.

But that is not the only thing that differs. Inside her body's white outline that defines her shape, the stars are all the same color. They are bright gold.

I look behind her, where Henry stares at us in confusion. He has a white outline like hers, but the stars that fill him are brownish, almost chocolate colour. Like his wolf.

'Now let's test you, Aurelia. Can you see Henry?'

'Yes'

Focus on his aura. It is the color that fills his body. Imagine lifting the body's arm. I am not very confident but my beast pushes me to do it. We take a deep breath and imagine Henry raising his arm in front of him as if he were making a pledge.

His arm rises, as I think, as it is stretched out in front of him. He looks at his arm in shock and lets out a loud growl, trying to bring it to his side, but he cannot. He raises his other hand and tries to push it back to his side, but he is unable to. He gets frustrated by this and runs to the nearby tree and jumps, pushing his hand against its trunk, but to no avail.

His attempts seem funny to me and my concentration breaks as his arm drops to the side. I laugh now, rolling on the floor.

"Ok, enough of that," Giasemi barks, annoyed at me, but her lips twitch with a smile.

"No, try what you did with Henry, but on yourself. Imagine yourself floating."

I purse my lips at her and sit cross-legged and do as I did earlier. This time, I don't need to close my eyes. Even though my vision is back to normal but it only takes me one deep breaths time and I see the overlay of stars all around me.

I look at my lap. My outline is white but my body is a sky full of stars twinkling. I look up at Giasemi again, but my focus is on imagining myself floating above the ground. I start flying a few inches off the ground before falling on the grass.

"Good Aurelia. Now we will go with Henry's obstacle course for you."

Henry now looks smug, no doubt happy with the opportunity to get back at me. It is almost daybreak as the sun threatens to come out of the clouds.

My second task is to alternate between running and gliding. I have to run for a few moments and then switch to gliding in the air a few feet above the ground.

I start with running and then focusing on floating or gliding in the air for a few paces, but I fall as soon as I start floating. It was easier to float while sitting. Running and floating alternatively is difficult.

I see Henry smirking at me as he watches me try to alternate between running and floating and failing to do so. My beast grumbles at him, but I have to admit it is fair for him to smirk at me. I did laugh at him first.

So far, I have managed to float only half a foot above the ground and keep tripping over the various obstacles placed.

Suddenly, an idea pops into my mind. What if I jump before I start to float? My beast also likes this idea and I look at my trainers with determination.

I break into a run, drawing power from my beast, before hopping on my front foot. The hop gives me a boost of a few feet and I follow Giasemi's instructions, tune into my aura, and imagine the air beneath my feet as oil on which I am gliding.

My trick works and I keep gliding a few feet above the ground before hopping back onto the ground and continuing my run. I manage to do so two more times before falling to the ground again.

This time I feel arms grabbing me and helping me get up as sparks erupt over where they touch my skin. Aiden.

"Well Done. Aurelia." I beam at his words and peek behind him to see Giasemi and Henry looking at me with pride in their eyes.

They start clapping for me in encouragement and my beast shakes her fur out and barks at them from inside my mind, satisfied by their praise.

"Very good. I have never seen a fae learn it so fast." Giasemi applauds.

Henry shrugs at her words but looks at me in the eyes. "Time for some combat training."

My shoulders drop as he speaks, but I nod and follow him. I had previously noticed some Weres a few paces ahead of us. Aiden remains at his place and starts discussing with Giasemi. I faintly hear the words Adrian and mate in their conversation. He must be trying to convince her to give Adrian a chance.

They were trying to sneakily glance at us and at my abnormal training. Curiosity, I suppose. At least they did not hate me or are afraid of me. That is a good thing. He starts warming up and I follow him, mimicking his actions.

We were warming up when I sensed Aiden roaring his head off. All the Weres fell to their knees. I look around to see Aiden out of control. Even Giasemi isn't doing much well, as she bends at her waist, submitting to him.

He punches the tree near him. He is partially shifted, and his claws are out as he slashes at its trunk.

I feel two pulls. One to bow to him and another to go and soothe him. My legs walk towards him on their own accord and I grab his fist just as it is going to hit the tree. He looks at me in annoyance and his eyes are bright with his beast in them.

He drops his hand, and I lace my fingers around his to prevent him from punching the tree and hugging him. He takes a deep breath, taking in my scent and nuzzling my neck. I shiver at his touch but hear whispers breakout all around us.

Aiden growls and the whispers shush. I can feel his breath coming to a normal pace, so I step back, breaking our embrace. He looks annoyed but lets me step back.

"What happened?"

"Remember the lady you told me about? The one you saw at the witch's house?"

"Yes..."

"Her sister had three sons and guess who they were?"

"Who?" I ask, not liking where this is leading.
