39. Healing
"It is all in your blood, Aurelia. All in your blood." Maria says to me, smiling.
"Huh? My blood?" I ask, confused.
"Yes, I am afraid I can't tell you more than that. Maybe you should meet a healer. What do you call them? Yes, a theta."
"Well, what about the Blood Mafia?" Aiden enquires.
"Our foresight is restricted but your enemy lurks close. You might want to interrogate your staff at Ilios, especially the one who was captured." Princess Maria said.
Aiden and I look at each other in confusion yet again. I have started to understand why Aiden does not like the Fae. They don't give away much.
"Oh yes, you will need some training. Typically, you should be here for the training but due to the delicate circumstances surrounding you, one of the Fae will accompany you. She will help you discover your powers. Her name is Giasemi."
Aiden now grumbles in annoyance. King Alastor chuckles. "Yes, I know your annoyance with us but our powers force us to be vague. Anyway, Giasemi will prove to be helpful in the future in ways you don't know yet."
Aiden suddenly stiffens, and his eyes flash before they go out of focus for a moment. He looks at me in panic. "Adrian is critical. We need to go now."
He then looks at the Fae royals in annoyance. "You knew this would happen. Didn't you?" he accuses.
They purse their lips in response but the queen says, "We also know how to help you. Giasemi will take you there."
King Alastor then nods and out of nowhere, a girl, a Fae, appears out of thin air. She kneels in front of them.
"King. You summoned me."
"Yes. You are meant to train Aurelia. But before that, they need to go somewhere. It's a matter of life and death. Be quick."
We stand up in a hurry. King Alastor says, "Hold hands with Giasemi and she will teleport you. As for your men who came along with you, they can travel by car. You can contact us if you need our help by means of Giasemi."
Aiden nods at him while I stare at them in shock.
Teleport. How is that possible?
Aiden pulls me towards Giasemi, who is already standing, waiting for us. She has her hands outstretched. Quickly, I hold one of her hands while Aiden holds the other. We form a linked triangle and soon she starts chanting. She starts floating and soon we follow her.
I feel something and suddenly a feeling of lightness overcomes me. It's as if my feet are not taking my weight. I look down at hands and feet. They are getting invisible. It almost feels as if the air around us is eating away my body along with my clothes, particle by particle.
It creeps from my fingertips, my toes and soon my limbs are invisible. However, I can see a slight sheen. They almost feel like jelly, as if they are made of air. Should I say they are becoming an aerosol?
The aerosol now creeps towards my hair and within seconds I am invisible and then I see a flash of light. My vision turns bright gold, as If I am staring directly into the sun and soon we shoot up through the roof like rockets. The solidity of the roof does not obstruct us as we pass through it.
I sense my hair flying but even that feels strange. I look around and see. We are now flying above the palace. It's not like we are actually teleported; it's more like we are flying through the air. But it feels as if time has slowed down as we fly.
I look beside me to see Aiden standing, err, floating with anger on his face. His body is like mine, white against the backdrop of bright liquid gold that surrounds us. As I try to look far ahead, it is as if my bright gold vision is blending into a rainbow as different colours streak past us.
I think of mind-linking him but decide against it. Who knows what will happen if I mind-link him when we are being teleported or is it time travel?
Soon we arrive at the hospital. How did she know where we needed to go? Maybe it's part of the teleporting. Aiden and I fall down, dizzy as we gasp for air, The aerosol now going back into our skin and clothes. However, Giasemi lands gently on her feet.
We scramble to our feet and try to comfort ourselves. I look around to see other Weres staring at us. Warmth creeps up on my cheeks from the stares. Aiden let's out a growl and everyone bows and scurries.
Aiden then hurries towards an ICU unit. Giasemi and I follow him. A theta steps out of the door. It is none other than Dr. Ferretey. She angles her neck for a moment before saying, "King. Beta is critical. We do not know what to do."
I hear wails just as those words leave her mouth and turn to look at the source of those sounds. It is none other than Abigail. She cries, dropping to her knees. I rush to her and try to comfort her but she jerks me away.
She sniffs the air near me and let's out a loud growl. She is now furious as she points her finger at me. "This is all because of you! He was attacked for your research!!! And you are a liar too!! I can smell you. I can sense your power. You are not a weresap," she screeches.
I winced at her words. I am the source of all this anguish. I do not have time to react as she grabs my blazer's collar and pins me against the wall. Her hands next go to my neck as she squeezes my throat. I stay like that and do not fight. She is right.
Aiden let's out a loud roar and pushes Abigail away. She falls to the ground and looks up at Aiden in horror.
She shouts, "You are saving her!! Choosing her over our best friend."
I drop to my knees, clutching at my neck and take in deep breaths. Abigail lets out a roar and stands ready to attack me again, but is stopped by a Were who injects something into her neck. Her eyes widen before closing on their own and slumping into the weres' arms.
Aiden nods at him as the man carries her into a room.
Aiden glances at me with a look of pain. He looks at me and opens his mouth to say something but then decides against it and closes his mouth.
Well. If I am the one who caused this, I will solve it. I will save Adrian. I come to a stop before Giasemi and say, "King Alastor said that I could help Adrian. But how? He said something about blood."
She nods and then turns her head towards Dr. Ferretey. "Do you need blood for Adrian?"
Ferretey's eyes widen as she nods her head. "Yes, we are out of blood. I am not sure if Aurelia and Adrian have the same blood group."
"My blood group is O positive, the universal donor. Please doctor."
She looks at me for a moment before nodding and shouting, "Prepare for the blood transfusion."
..............................
Now, I lie on a stretcher next to Adrian's bed. Aiden had arranged for transfusion to happen next to Adrian. He did not want to leave his best friend alone, as Abigail was asleep.
The blood drips into the saline. The bag of blood is almost full. The ICU is situated on the top floor with large openings. It is nine in the evening now. It is not a full moon day but the moon is big enough to cast light.
Giasemi stands at the corner of the room. She seems irritated. She keeps glancing at Adrian and out towards the door. Soon a nurse enters the room and removes the saline.
She then hooks it to Adrian. I sit up and see Adrian. My beast pushes me towards him for some reason but I don't understand. Within a few moments, Adrian starts jerking. His skin starts glowing white and he jolts awake.
His eyes flash open and his beast peeks up from behind his eyes. His eyes glow faintly but they remain staring straight. Aiden jumps up and starts shaking Adrian but Adrian does not respond. He keeps sitting like that for a moment before he drops back to his bed.
The nurse checks the vitals on the machine adjacent to Adrian. However, as I walk towards Adrian, I am on autopilot. I gently push aside Aiden and sit beside Adrian, holding his palms.
My beast nudges me to tell him a word. Adrian's palms glow like the moon as I say the word. "Xýpna."
I feel electricity passing through me and into Adrian's body. Almost as if I am giving him life. Both of us glow so brightly that Aiden and Giasemi bring their arms to the front of their eyes and the nurse standing behind them mimics their actions, trying to shut out the bright light emitting from us.
Adrian now jolts awake, his eyes focusing on me for a moment. He looks at me and Aiden in confusion. He then starts sniffing around, his nose flaring. His pupils dilate as his eyes focus on something behind me.
One word comes out of his mouth. " Mate."
I turn around to see Giasemi standing behind me. Aiden's eyes widened at this. Just then, we hear a crash. I look to the source of sound. It is Abigail. She watches in horror and sorrow as Adrian keeps gazing at Giasemi with so much love and affection that I feel like I am intruding on a private moment.
Is that how Aiden would have reacted if we came to know about our bond under normal circumstances, if I were normal?
Abigail lets out a whimper before turning around and running out the door. Aiden looks at the door in pain before glancing at me.
"Take care of Adrian. I have to be with Abigail now."
I nod at him but he does not wait for my response as he dashes out the door, following Abigail. I feel bad for Abigail. To my knowledge, she loved Adrian unconditionally.
I see Adrian looking at the door, a look of pain entwined with sympathy before his gaze focuses on Giasemi. A soft and expectant expression takes over his face as he says. "You are really a fairy in my life."
Giasemi cringes at his words and looks towards the door through which Abigail just left.
I stand and take a step back, wanting to give the mates some space while still keeping an eye on Adrian. The nurse who was standing stared at us in amazement, her gaze moving from me to Adrian and then Giasemi.
I look at her name tag and address her. "Maybe you should call Dr. Ferretey."
She nods and then runs out of the ICU. Adrian tries to get up from his bed but I restrain him. He then sniffs the air again and says, "You smell different."
"Well, we can discuss that later but first you need to rest. You have been in a coma for a long time."
I push him back onto the bed before I feel darkness clouding my vision.
