38. Royal Fae

I stand at the door as Aiden waits for me to exit. "At least tell me now where we are going."

He sighs and meets my gaze. "We are going to visit the Fae royals."

My eyes widen as I manage to stutter out the words "But why?"

He sighs at me and says, "We can discuss this in the car. Come on, we are getting late. We have a long drive ahead."

My shoulders drop in defeat as I step out. Aiden closes the door shut behind me before walking ahead. I struggle to keep up with him.

Even though I am six feet tall, Aiden towers over me by a good five to six inches. It is not uncommon for Weres to be tall but Aiden is definitely taller than usual. Since I am wearing stilletos, it takes a while for me to catch up with him.

Soon We are seated in the car. Henry sits in the passenger seat as Bill drives the car, with Aiden and I taking the backseats of the car.

Aiden is back to his cold self again. He keeps gazing out of the window.

'Aiden?' I ask tentatively, through our Mindlink.

He shoots me an annoyed glance before turning back and gazing the scenery out the window.

However, he responds via our link. 'Yes, Aurelia.'

My beast shivers in delight at hearing him say my name. She would have been more happy if he said her name, though.

'Why are we visiting the Fae Royals?'

His shoulders drop in defeat as he glares at me but answers, 'Because they knew that you would need the samples. The Fae kind are very sharp and conniving creatures. They are not bad but they hold their secrets close. The Fae royals have been rumoured to have been gifted with foresight.'

I form an 'O' with my mouth and nod at him. He continues, 'Since Maria knew that you would need the blood samples—Fae blood sample in particular—she most probably has an idea of what is happening.'

His words make sense and I nod at him. Even Maria, the Fae princess, gave me some cryptic messages. She did say that I should follow my heart. I glance at Aiden. Was it our bond she was talking about?

Even if I think of accepting him, some of my insecurities start creeping on me. Even though I am well off, I can't match the level of Aiden.

He is the Alpha King, arguably the most powerful Were on earth. I am just a girl with an abnormal wolf. Am I good for him? Can I fit the bill of being an Alpha queen, the Were Queen?

Even though I was born a Were, I do not know many customs of the pack, save for what Nana tells me. I am a lone wolf.

I am lost in my thoughts as Aiden snaps his fingers in front of me, bringing me back to the present.

My eyes refocus on him. He now looks a bit concerned. "Are you fine?" He asks out loud.

I nod at him and look out the window. I see we are at the Fae royal palace. I turn to look at Aiden and find him looking at me in confusion. He thinks of something before shaking his head and stepping out of the car. I turn to open the door but see Bill holding it open for me.

Aiden steps behind Bill and I see Bill stiffen as he steps aside, bowing his head, keeping his eyes downcast. Aiden frowns at him but holds his hand out for me to take.

Resisting a sigh, I hold his palm and sparks erupt over where our hands are connected. I wonder: Am I ever going to get used to his touch if I accept him as my mate?

As soon as I am out of the car, he places my hand on his right bicep. The sparks subdue with the sleeve of his blazer obstructing our skin-to-skin contact. I look at his arm where my hand stays and glance up at him to see him already staring at me. The world ebbs away as we get lost in each other.

The moment breaks again as a Fae attendant comes towards us. But his moments are a bit different from the day of the party. I look down and see him a few inches off the ground. My eyes widen and I look at Aiden in astonishment.

Aiden mindlinks me, 'The Fae can float. They resisted floating on Princess Maria's birthday due to the presence of other supernaturals. But today is an impromptu visit from us. So they won't hide their powers.'

I look around the palace. Somehow, the place looks more nature-friendly than before. Many runners climb the palace walls, flowers of varying colours adorning the palace walls.

The Fae servant introduces himself and asks us to follow him. Apparently, the Fae royals are waiting for us. Aiden nods at him and walks ahead, pulling me with him.

We take many turns before taking a flight of stairs that opens into a long corridor. After passing a few closed doors, we stop at an open one. Two Fae guards stand. no float at the entrance. As soon as we reach them, they bow their heads in acknowledgement before announcing our names.

I am shocked as they announce me as the Alpha Queen. Once again, I look at Aiden in shock. He purses his lips in annoyance and gives me a short glance.

'I did not tell them that you are my mate. They probably know.'

My brows raise in shock but I compose myself and enter the room. The Fae royals stand when they see us coming and glide towards us, their long robes sweeping the floor. It looks like some kind of library but a long table covers the length of the room.

They stop gliding and come to a stop in front of us. The Fae King, Queen and Princess all beam at us, bright with happiness. Aiden nods at them as he addresses them by their names, " Fae King Alator, Queen Neraida, Princess Maria."

They smile brightly and chuckle as King Alastor holds his hand out for a shake. Aiden mimics his action and shakes his hands, my hand still on his biceps. I begin to curtsy, but Maria stops me, holding my shoulders and hugging me tightly.

I am taken off guard by her actions but I pat her back. She let's me go and says, "Queens do not curtsy and neither do my friends."

"But.." I start only to be cut off by her "Fates lores are too complex to be understood by us mere mortals. Now I am sure you have a lot of queries. Why don't we take a seat?"

"Yes. Please." King Alastor adds and glides back to the table, taking a central chair. Even the Fae queen. Neraida smiles warmly at us as she follows King Alastor and takes a chair to his right.

Aiden glances at me before walking to Alastor's right and holding out a chair for me at a spot across from Maria, as he himself sits right across as the Fae king, a Fae servant, holds the chair out for him.

Aiden then stares at the royals for a moment before saying, "Do I need to ask or do you already have an idea about what is going on?"

King Alastor chuckles before Queen Neraida speaks. " All secret's can't be revealed. Future and past are tricky and often a result of another's actions."

This is the second time I have heard her speak. She usually keeps quiet, but I have a feeling her silence is filled with observations. Her sharp eyes always roam around, assessing and focusing on me. I feel like they pierce into my soul.

My beast cringes at her gaze. She too feels exposed.

"We knew you would need Fae blood for your research. That is why we gifted it to you. It is Princess Maria's blood."

All of her words are directed at me and the others remain silent. "Ok. Then why the Mer blood, Fae Queen?"

She let's out a sigh and says, "You have a use for it. It will reveal some other secrets but now is not the time for that discussion. I am sure you know by now that you are part Fae."

I nod at her. It does not surprise me anymore that she knows. Probably all of them knew. I am done with this. They know yet they don't tell. Fates lores. Right. My inner strength gives out as I drop my elbows to the table, holding my face in my hands.

Aiden comforts me by rubbing my back. I hear Queen Neraida say, "I know this sounds like gibberish to you. But let me tell you what I can. There are some laws we, the Fae, have to follow."

I hear the scraping of a chair and the Fae royals stand and float in the air. I look up at them and stand. So does Aiden.

Princess Maria glides towards the shelves of books. "You see these books, Aurelia. They are all legends. Full of magic. Each with it's own story to tell. They might seem like a story but they are a reality. Such realities that we cannot comprehend."

"Let us tell you a small Fae legend." King Alastor continues, "It dates back to a time where no werewolves existed nor did the vampires, nor did the mer. There were no supernatural kingdoms. Only humans and the Fae lived in harmony and peace. The humans thought of Fae as fellow human. The Fate cast a veil on their eyes and they did not notice how the Fae kind differed from the human."

Queen Neraida then starts floating higher and a book flies out of the shelves, coming to rest on the table in front of us. It's pages flicker until they come to a stop at a page with pictures.

Strangely, the pictures start moving like animation.

"There lived a Fae lady called Magissa. She was known throughout the Fae and humans alike for her beauty. She then met a man whom she fell irrevocably in love with. Only to find out he was using her and was already married. He was a human yet he was arrogant. She swore vengeance and gave up her bonds with nature for bonds with the dark, which would help her take revenge. She killed his wife out of revenge. The human was now angered and prayed to the fate that he be granted a wish. Now see, Fate did not think what the human did to Magissa was right but felt pity for the wife. Fate thought that if the wife could see the powers of the fae, a life would not have been wasted so Fate lifted the veil off."

King Alastor now says, "Fate punished the human by letting Magissa make him a prisoner of the dark forces. Magissa, on the other hand, felt remorse after the human was punished for killing the innocent wife. She tried for forgiveness but fate said she would be forgiven only if the other Fae would vouch for her. She went to her family, asking them for their support but they refused to help her, disgusted by her bond with the dark forces. And so the witches came into existence."

Now the book in front of us closes on it's own accords. Aiden and I look up at the Fae royals. Now it's Maria's turn to speak, as she says, "We are descendants of the family that had rejected Marissa. When our ancestors had rejected Magissa, one of Magissa's sisters felt bad. She asked for a favour from the Fate, saying that if they could only get some glimpses into the future, they could have stopped their dear Magissa from getting betrayed. The fate took pity on her, seeing her love, and bestowed us a favour. Whoever sits on the throne will get some glimpses of future but they could use their powers only within certain rules."

"After sometime, fights between Fae and humans broke out, forcing the Fae into hiding. The need for unity created a Fae kingdom. Since Magissa's sister was gifted, she could lead the Fae when they were being hunted, and so she was made a queen, a worthy warrior from the Fae, her Psychi."

"Psychi?" I ask in confusion.

Maria smiles gently and says, "Soul, Soulmate is referred to as psychii in Fae."

King Alastor now says, "So the firstborn daughter of the Fae has this precognition."

"That is how we knew you were part Fae. We can not directly tell about your future but we can help you. You have many challenges ahead. A great burden lies on both of you." Queen Neraida says.

"Both?" Aiden asks.

"Yes, both. Not just because you are the Alpha King or Aurelia's mate but in your hands lies salvation, Were King." Princess Maria adds.

We look at each other in astonishment. Aiden reaches and holds my hand, entwining his fingers with mine. In that moment, we come to an understanding. Whatever happens from now on, we are a team. Our eyes fill with determination as we look at the Fae royals.

Princess Maria glides towards me and squeezes my shoulder in assurance. "We are with you. We will help you in whatever way we can."

I nod at her and place my hand on hers in a thankful manner.

"So what should we do next?" I ask, gazing around the room.

All the Fae royals now sit, taking their earlier positions. "Well, whatever you did till now is good. You will need to embrace the Fae side of your nature, Aurelia. You can help the royal beta, who is comatose. Conscious, he would lead you on the right path." Queen Neraida tells me in a gentle tone.

"But How?"
