12. The Helpful Professor
AURELIA'S POV...
"Your PhD mentor, Dr. Cyrus," Adrian says, looking at me.
My eyes widen "What? Does Dr. Cyrus know about us?" I exclaim.
"Yes, He's known about us for long time; well, it's a story for another time."
He turns and starts walking in another direction, with Adrian on his tow.
"But I thought we were going to my home," I call out.
They stop in their tracks and turn around. "We were but after what you said.." Aiden trails off.
"Oh, No problem " I say, my shoulders dropping that I was going to be left off the hook of this investigation.
I turn around and take a step towards my home when Aiden calls out, "Why are you going that way."
I glance at him. "Well, you are going to do the investigation; what help can I do?" I say, sadly.
"Of course you will help; it was your idea in the first place, Now come quickly," Aiden says, jerking his head in the direction he was going.
Adrian too, smiles at me and they start walking. I follow them, no questions asked. But then remember Grandma and link her'Going on an erand will be back soon'
Better keep things vague, or she will get worried for no reason. We soon arrive at the road leading to the Were community, where there are multiple cars and three to four men—werewolves, judging by their scents—standing out waiting, I assume.
Adrian and Aiden walk towards them, and I follow them from a distance, not wanting to intrude. Adrian climbs into the passenger seat of the first car, while aiden opens the back door and signals for me to climb up. I just nod in response and get into the car, sliding to the side as Aiden follows me and sits beside me, shutting the door behind him.
The car starts, and we go to meet Dr. Cyrus. The tension in the car is thick, and I keep silent, not wanting to create any more issues. Soon, we arrive at Ilios, which may be because Dr. Cyrus also works here. It is now six p.m.
The car comes to a halt in front of the entrance, and we exit one by one, with the driver still inside. While we enter, Adrian and Aiden both nod at the receptionist, and I just stare at them, perplexed.
It did not make sense that the receptionist recognized not only Adrian but also Aiden.Come to think of it, he was here, even when I had come for the interview. We stride towards the elevator, and Adrian presses the third floor button. I get more perplexed but I dare not say anything.
These were serious sides of Adrian and Aiden that I was seeing, and I did not know how to behave. My beast, meanwhile, caressed me, and I felt better. I straightened my spine and decided to follow their lead.
My beast yipped in my mind, happy that I was serious. She felt that it was a very serious matter, and I should keep it clinical.
The third floor was spacious. It had it's own reception area and two hallways. We took the left one, and on my right, I saw a cabin door with the name Aiden King inscribed on it.
He unlocks it Adrian and I follow him. He goes straight behind the desk and takes the chair, while Adrian goes and sits in the chair opposite to him. I just stand there.
"Sit, Aurelia," Adrian says, while Aiden just keeps staring at the door behind me. I walk forward and slide into the chair when I hear a knock on the door.
"Come in," shouts Aiden and see Dr. Cyrus walk in. He smiles at Aiden, but it vanishes and an expression of confusion takes over his face.
"Aurelia, what are you doing here at this time? I thought your shift was over," he says to me while walking towards us and occupying the chair on the right of Adrian.
"Yes, it is over but..." I trail off, not knowing what to say.
Adrian cuts in and says the events of the day, about how they found a corpse and about my idea. Dr. Cyrus looks at me in surprise and turns towards Aiden " What Aurelia said is true in theory but first we will need DNA samples from the parents of the missing persons and that will take time."
"Do not worry about that; you will have them by tomorrow afternoon at the latest," Aiden reassures.
"But the amount of time it will take for testing will be long; we have to test a lot of samples," he says to Aiden.
Aiden again reassures, "No problem, Aurelia and Adrian will help you."
"But my shift..." I start but trail off, seeing the look on Aiden's face. I feel like a naughty child who's about to be scolded by her parents.
"Your research can wait." He says as if what he says is final. May be it is. Looking at the treatment he is getting from Dr. Cyrus and the cabin he has, I could feel a sense of ownership.
It was as if I was looking at another man. He radiated pure Alpha energy, and I realized he truly was the Were King, not to be trifled with.
"You can report to the office at 9:00 AM tomorrow morning, Aurelia," Dr. Cyrus instructs me.
"Okay, sir," I say in response.
Aiden then stands up and we all do the same. He glances at Adrian and says, "Stay here and wait for the cops; they will come here, you know what I mean."
Adrian affirms, "Ok."
"Thank you, Dr. Cyrus; I won't keep you here anymore. You may keep me updated with the results through Adrian or Aurelia," he says, looking at Dr. Cyrus and the man in question just nods his head in response.
Then he turns to glance at me and says, "Come on, I will drop you home this time." His gaze softens a bit, and he walks away towards the door, taking long strides. I follow him, making a goodbye gesture to Adrian and Dr. Cyrus.Adrian smiles a bit, while Dr. Cyrus just keeps gazing at me.

Soon we reach my home, and stepping out of the car, he keeps the door open for me to get out. I step down and stand there, not knowing what to do.
"Won't you invite me inside?" he asks.
Surprised by his politeness and stuttering, I say, "Of course, and you also need to have dinner, or grandma will be offended."
I smile at him, and he beams back at me. I start walking towards the door, unlock it, and yell, "Grandma, I am home."
"Shhh, do you forget you can mindlink, We are Weres after all." My grandma replies and then wallks towards us.
She reaches out for a hug and I step forward, only for her to turn and hug Aiden in a tight embrace. I stand there pouting, annoyed that she ignored me.
She gets out of his embrace and says, "Come on, we stay together 24/7, but Addy over here hasn't met me for twelve hours."
Aiden chuckles at her response and smirks at me, smug that Grandma hugged him instead of me. I roll my eyes and say, "I am going to change out of these sweaty clothes."
I run towards my bedroom and quickly change into my sweats and a loose t-shirt. Gathering my hair up in a bun, I walk towards the kitchen and say, "What's for dinner?"
I see Aiden and Grandma start laughing at me. I ask, "What?".
"Nothing, just grandma saying that you can't finish a meal without ice cream."
I just huff in response and say, "My life, My wish."
Grandma just shakes her head at me, while Aiden just turns around towards the table, glaring at it.
I feel sadness rolling off of him. Not wanting to make him conscious, I ask him mentally, 'What's wrong? Is it about today's events?'
I go to the kitchen and fetch a cup of water when He just groans and says, 'Abigail just cancelled my date with her."
The water in my mouth splutters all around, shocked at his response, 'I thought she liked Adrian.'
I gulp the water and look at him, brows raised.
"You should take more care while drinking." My grandma scolds.
I nod at her and sit opposite Aiden as he says, 'Yes, but she helps me keep away the unwanted female attention at formal events by staying by my side. I had an important event to attend—the birthday of the Fae King's daughter—and she was my plus one.'
smirking at him, I tease, 'Why do not you take another girl from the female attention you get? I am sure she would be happy to keep the others away and you safe from them.'
He just narrows his eyes in response and pouts, annoyed.
'I did not know grown men pout' I tease him further, while grandma places the dishes on the table before us. He regains his composure and his pout fades.
"Thank you, grandma," I say to her. I wanted to help but the stubborn old lady would deny it anyway.
After a few moments , he looks at me and smirks, 'What?' I mind-link him.
His smirk grows wider. and he says, 'Wait and watch. You will know.'
"Now you two stop mind-linking each other and focus on food," my grandma orders and we stare at her in shock.
" What? Didn't you two think I could guess you were mind-linking? Now just start eating food; it's getting cold," she says, as if it were normal for us to be mind-linking.
Well, My grandma is a clever lady, I think to myself.
