Twenty-Three-Enter The Puma
Peridot's Pov
Mother hadn't told me about Amethyst coming back to Crystal prep until we were in the car outside of Pearl's home.
I was confused as to why Yellen had gotten a ride with Bella and why we were picking up Pearl with no prior communication between the two of us.
"What's taking her so long?" I asked. "Pearl is usually very punctual in the mornings."
"Well, maybe Pearl is," Mother started. "But I'm not so sure about Amethyst..." I took a moment to process it. At first, I saw nothing wrong with the statement. After all, I'd gotten used to Amethyst living with Pearl. Then I remembered the previous month's happenings.
"Amethyst?" Pearl finally stepped on to the porch and waved to us. I got out of the car and stood beside it as a girl I didn't recognize stepped out. For a brief moment, I wondered if Amethyst had lost an unhealthy amount of weight for the time period and cut her hair. And also grown two inches. But I realized that it was impossible when Amethyst stepped out a moment later with a piece of toast in her mouth. "Amethyst!" I ran to her and wrapped my arms around her.
"Peri!" I was so glad to have my best friend back.
"I've missed you so much!"
"I thought you were going to punch me for a second," Amethyst said. I stepped back.
"Why would I punch you?" She and Pearl looked at each other.
"It's a long story. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I can't wait to get to school."
I don't think I stopped talking for a second in the car. I told Amethyst about how much I missed her and the camping trip and about Aquamarine.
"Okay, you four be good today. And don't forget Peridot, Opal is picking you up." My mother reminded us as she walked into her office.
"Okay, I love you mom!" Pearl laced her fingers with mine.
"You're getting better at showing your affection," She commented.
"It's a growing effort." Amethyst pretended to gag.
"Get a room!" The other girl, whom I'd learned to be Amethyst's sister Nikki, snickered.
"Peridot!" Called the shrill voice I'd learned to recognize called. I sighed and turned around. Aquamarine, joined by her inseparable twin counterparts walked to join us.
"What do you want? I asked. Aquamarine gasped.
"You must be Amethyst! I've heard so much about you!" Amethyst snorted.
"I'm sure you have." SHe looked at me. "So this is the 'bane of your existence'? Really?" Aquamarine pretended to look shocked.
"Really Peridot, and I thought we were friends!" She giggled and skipped away while the twins followed her.
"Euelch," I said. "Thank the stars we don't have to see her for a while." Pearl chuckled.
"If you say so..."
Most people eagerly greeted Amethyst in the halls if they recognized her. Some people even stopped to chat. We were sitting down and eating lunch when Amethyst finally asked about the people in Crystal Prep.
"So is Lapis still dating Red?" I nodded.
"She sits with them in her classes."
"And she doesn't talk to her friend Mangano anymore," Pearl added. "I think they had a falling out. I feel so bad for her."
"Lapis shouldn't have just ditched her best friend for a guy," Yellen agreed. "It's a shady move." Amethyst just eyed her strangely. I could tell she still wasn't a fan of Yellen.
"Suprise! It's me!" Someone yelled behind me, causing me to spill coffee on my sweatshirt.
"Ugh, now I have to wash this!" I complained. I turned around to see Sardonyx.
"Whoops, sorry!" She apologized.
"Sardonyx! What a delightful surprise!" Pearl said Her expression became confused. "But wait, this isn't your lunch period." Sardonyx shrugged.
"I heard through the grapevine that Amethyst was back in town and I just had to say hello! I simply could not wait until Thursday!" Nikki looked slightly worried. "How are you, Amethyst?" Sardonyx asked, hugging Amethyst.
"I'm doing great Donyx, thanks."
"So, how's life? What's your new home like?" Amethyst smiled sarcastically.
"Well, there are eight kids including me, and Nikki and I are supposed to take care of everyone." She stopped smiling. "So it's great." Sardonyx frowned.
"Well, I'll e sure to make this Thanksgiving one you'll never forget!" Amethyst tried to hide her concern with a smile.
"Great..."
"Well, I must be going! Teachers don't exactly like your bathroom breaks to be longer than ten minutes." Pearl's eyes went wide.
"Sardonyx, what have you been doing?" Sardonyx held a finger to her mouth.
"Nothing Mrs. Topaz needs to know!" She left as quickly as she came.
"Wow," Nikki said. I fully concurred with her reaction.
Later on, once we'd gotten back to Pearl's house, it felt great to be in everyone's presence. Opal and Sugilite were like sisters to me, and I was happy to see Pearl's grandmother.
I finally had my best friend back.
I finally had my family back.
(A/N) Wow, look at that.
Random fact of the day: Originally I was going to make Amethyst's siblings the famethyst but eh.
Just know hat that's what I'm going for.
