Sugi's pov

The sound of my phone ringing woke me up. I must have fallen asleep while studying, because I was face down in notes. Grumbling, I picked up the phone.

"Hello?"

"Sugilite, you need to get back here!" Amethyst cried into the phone. I sat up quickly. "Please, he's getting worse and a letter came in the mail saying that some lady wants to do a home visit!"

"Are you serious? When?" I asked. I hadn't prepared for a home visit.

"This weekend. I know it'd probably be a burden, but could you make it?" I grabbed around on my desk for my schedule.

"I have a morning class tomorrow, then I'm good all weekend. I'll be there."

"Thanks so much! You're the best!" I smiled.

"I have to be. For now, try to clean up some of the cans. And your room. Now get to bed, it's late. I love you."

"Okay. I love you too." She hung up and I dropped my phone, sighing.

"Really? A home visit?" I sighed. I had no idea what to do for a home visit.

But what could that be? As long as the house was clean, the bills were paid, and Ames had food, then wouldn't everything be okay? I just had to find a way to get my dad out of the house for a few hours and we'd be good. There's no way he could make things work.

"I can do it. For both of us." I cleaned up my notes and called Opal.

"Hey." She said after a minute.

"Hey. How's it going?" She sighed.

"Not too well. Turns out that of all the people from Crystal Prep, Rainbow's the only one who decided to go to my school."

"I'm so sorry babe." I sighed.

"What's wrong with you?" She asked.

"I have to jet home this weekend because we've got a home visit. It's getting harder to keep Ames safe from here." I explained.

"I'm so sorry to hear that. Do you want me to come down too?" I shook my head, even though I knew she couldn't see.

"I don't want to burden you."

"Don't worry, I'll come down anyway. I miss Pearl and my mom." On the other end of the line, a girl said something to Opal. "I have to go."

"Who's that?" I asked, curious.

"My roommate, Rhodonite. She needs help writing a letter to her grandmother." It sounded weird, but I let it go.

"I love you."

"I love you too." She hung up and I sighed.

"What am I going to do?"
