Rainbow's Pov

"I'm home," I called, intentionally slamming the door behind me. It was three o'clock on a Sunday afternoon, why the hell should I have cared about being subtle or quiet?

Rose was sitting on the stairs reading. She glanced away from her book and down at me. She'd only dyed her hair a few days ago, and it shocked me a bit to see her pink headed.

"Hi Rainbow," I grunted in response, glancing around. Rose kept smiling at me until I started up the stairs when she looked back into her book.

"Mom and Dad are mad at you," She said as I pushed past her.

"Yeah, what else is new?" Rose shrugged.

"I just thought I'd let you know before you saw one of them."

"Whatever." I continued up the stairs a bit then paused. "What are you reading?" I asked, turning back to her.

"Gulliver's Travels," She said. "For my English class. It's really interesting!" I rolled my eyes.

"I'm sure."

I woke up in a start, my heart racing so fast I thought I'd been murdered. Panting to try to catch my breath, I looked around quickly. My eyes adjusted to the dark in a few minutes and I got a good look at where I was; in my dorm.

I sighed and slumped over a bit, trying hard to forget the dream. Not a dream, a memory. I was in tenth grade, and Rose was in eighth. I'd spent the past two nights at friend's houses without my parents' permission. I was only supposed to go hang out at a friends' house on Friday night, but then we'd gotten into her parents' booze and the group of us started drinking, which lead to staying the night. The next night, we'd stayed t another friend's house. Rose had been sitting on the stairs so she could talk to me before Mom and Dad started yelling.

Dad. I didn't think I'd spoken to him since before I'd last spoken to Rose.

Sighing, I got up and made my way down the hall and went to the bathroom. When I got back, Morgan was up.

"Mornin' sunshine." I groaned and fell back into bed.

"What ungodly hour is it, anyway?" She picked up her phone then turned the screen towards me, the small rectangle of light almost blinding in the dark.

"A little after three. But you were breathing so heavily when you woke up that I wondered if you'd snuck somebody into the room without my knowledge." I assumed she smirked. "But of course, no such luck." I sighed and rolled my eyes.

"It's called a nightmare. And you know what? Sometimes they can happen in real life. Like this roommate situation. Morgan scoffed and turned on her desk lamp. I sighed and sat back up. "I guess we're awake now." She smiled scornfully.

"We're getting an early start for work."

"Oh, so you're actually going in today?" I asked sweetly. She snarled and threw her pillow at me. I caught it. "Mine now."

"What the hell is wrong with you, Rainbow?"

"What, you gave it to me so I figured-"

"Not that." I looked away from the pillow and back at Morgan.

"I beg your pardon?" She shook her head.

"You're fucking delusional, that's what you are. You spend so much time worrying about me and the decisions I make to worry about yourself." I almost laughed.

"What the hell do you mean?"

"You act like I have some sort of problem-" She gestured towards the pill bottles on her nightstand. "But you won't even acknowledge your own." I stood up and threw the pillow to the ground. She stood up as well.

"What problem? Do I sit here begging you to go drink and get high with me? Do I sit here not being able to decide whether I should be obsessed with you or hate you? No, so what's your problem?" Morgan grunted and grabbed me by the shirt.

"Listen the fuck up Rainbow. I am not obsessed with you, and anyone who says so can go screw off. And your problem is that you're so fucking strung out over a girl from high school who only gives a shit about you when she's having issues with her girlfriend and her sister. She doesn't care about you yet you treat her like a fucking goddess whereas you can't even let the person who treats you that way be happy!" I looked into her eyes, confused as all hell.

"Morgan, what the hell are you talking about?" She pulled me in and kissed me, but I pushed her away, causing her the fall back onto her bed.

"But I-"

"Morgan, listen!" I said firmly. "I can't be with you like that! You're too unpredictable with how you treat me and I don't want to be in a relationship with you, or anybody else for that matter! Just let me breathe!" We were both silent for a moment, afraid that we'd woken someone up or been loud enough for the RA to hear us. After a bit with no events, I sat down on my bed and sighed. "I'm not in the mood to talk. I'll see you in the morning." I laid down and pulled the blankets up to my head, facing the wall. I sat uneasily until I heard the click of Morgan turning her lamp off, when I finally relaxed into a sleep.
