Forty-Seven-Airplane Mode
Peridot's Pov
"Jesus Christ, don't have a spazz attack," Yellen commented as I desperately checked my phone for any text messages.
"Are you kidding me? Do you realize how long we were on that plane?" I asked.
"Like... a couple of hours?"
"Two and a half hours!" I exclaimed. "It's been too long since I've been able to check for any messages from Pearl!" Yellen rolled her eyes.
"Please. Pearl's fine. Besides, it's been like a week already since she's texted you really. I think you can handle one vacation." I shook my head.
"But it's my fault she stopped texting me in the first place! What if she sends a message and I'm not there to receive it, and she gets even more upset with me?" Yellen rolled her eyes and grabbed her suitcase off of the luggage return.
"Hey, Romeo, why don't you forget about Rosaline for long enough to get your bag?" I sighed and reluctantly shoved my phone into my sweatshirt pocket, grabbed my suitcase as well.
"Don't call her Rosaline. If you're going to call me Romeo, I'd at least appreciate for Pearl to be Juliet." Yellen chuckled.
"Whatever. Where's Mom?" I glanced around, finding her next to Blue.
"Right there."
Had I not been so concerned about Pearl, I'd have been more worried at the prospect of spending my April vacation in the Bahamas with not only my mother and sisters but also with Lapis Lazuli's family. Especially since Lapis had broken up with her boyfriend only two weeks prior. I'd heard many different versions of the story, but the only similar factor in each story was the horrible mood Lapis had been in ever since.
Mother and Blue had already collected their baggage and were now seated discussing the flight with two infants(luckily, neither had been fussy) when we arrived.
"Mom, now what?" Yellen asked, placing her suitcase beside mother's seat. Mother sighed.
"I don't know. Find some way to entertain yourself. Don't you have money on you? Go buy some coffee cakes from the vending machine. Read some airport pamphlets, do something."
A few minutes later, Yellen and I stood beside the information kiosk eating coffee cakes and glancing at various pamphlets.
"God, Mom really needs this vacation. Or a coffee." I nodded. Glancing around, I soon found Lapis and Jasper, both sitting on the floor beside a power outlet on their phones.
"Should we go join them?" I asked, nudging Yellen.
"Hm?" She briefly glanced in their direction. "Sure, why not." We made our way across the seating area and sat on the floor beside the two. "Hey," Lapis grunted something in return and Jasper glanced up at us for a moment.
"What do you want?"
"Do you know how long we'll be here?" Yellen asked. Lapis shrugged.
"Mom said like an hour." Yellen nodded.
"What are we waiting for?" I asked. Lapis lowered her phone and gave me a look.
"The shuttle to take us to the hotel." I blushed sheepishly.
"Oh, yeah." Lapis looked back at her phone. Jasper put her phone down, threw her head back, and groaned.
"I'm so bored. Isn't there anything fun to do here?" Yellen shrugged.
"We already bought coffee cakes from the vending machine and read the pamphlets, so that's all of Mom's ideas." Lapis shrugged.
"This airport is huge. There's a ton of stores that are probably way overpriced. Wanna go laugh at how stupid some of the things in them are?" No one objected most likely because we were too bred to. So we told our mothers where we'd be and set off.
There wasn't much, just an abundance of tacky souvenir shops and a few liquor kiosks, but we did end up buying some candy from one shop. After that, however, we lost interest and returned to our Mothers.
"How much did you spend on that?" Blue asked. Lapis shrugged.
"The candy was wicked overpriced. Like twelve bucks for the one jar." Malachite reached for the jar of various wrapped candies, but Lapis held it away. "No, you're too little for this."
After about ten or fifteen minutes of waiting and eating candy, the shuttle to take us to our hotel was finally there. We rodes in excited silence, until Mother turned to all of us.
"Before we get there, we'll need to talk briefly about the rooming situation." The four of us looked up at her. "We have two rooms and they both have two beds. That means you four will have to share." Yellen and I shared a pained expression, as Lapis and Jasper did the same. "Oh come on, I think you girls can handle sharing beds for a week. You can even do a rotation of who sleeps with who."
"That seems like it'll just cause more problems," Yellen admitted. Mother sighed.
"Well, what more do you want? I think the rooms will have couches in them, but why would you want to sleep on the couch?"
"So I don't have to sleep with Jasper," Lapis said curtly. Mother sighed as we pulled up to the hotel.
"Just figure it out."
Half an hour later, we'd unpacked and decided to head to the beach.
"Man, I haven't been to a beach in ages!" Yellen grinned, stretching. "I can't wait to hit the sand!"
"Speak for yourself." I felt uncomfortable as I stood in my swim shirt and trunks. Jasper snickered.
"Isn't that meant for guys?" She sneered. Her swimming attire consisted of little more than a top that reminded me of a sports bra and shorts way too short for her. Lapis stepped out in her swimsuit, a one-piece reminiscent of her swimming uniform, with Malachite in only a swim diaper in her arms.
"You guys are making me feel overdressed and underdressed at the same time..." Yellen said, glancing down at her bikini.
"Whatever. Let's just go." Lapis said, putting on her sunglasses and leading the way.
Mother and Blue followed along with Centi and our beach towel, while Jasper held the cooler and an umbrella that the hotel provided us with. I ended up sitting under the umbrella for almost an hour until Yellen tried to drag me out.
"Come swimming with us!"
"No!"
"Yellen, stop dragging your sister for just a moment!" Mother called. She made her way over to us, then plucked my glasses from my face. "Proceed." I groaned and stared at mother as Yellen now happily dragged me into the water.
Blurry sighted and now wet from the waist down, I stood irritated as Yellen and Jasper splashed in the water around me. Further off, I could see the shapes of what I assumed to be Mother and Blue playing with Centi and Malachite in the water. I couldn't see Lapis, but I assumed she was off swimming somewhere.
"What's the point of this?" I asked Yellen sighed.
"Fine. I guess if you're not having fun, you can go back to the hotel room an spend your vacation staring at a screen waiting for the text you'll never get." I thought about it for a minute.
"Alright," I said. "Let's have fun."
(A/N) Sorry lmao
