Forty-Four-Riptide Queen
Yeah so I kept hitting roadblocks so have another Lappy Chappy because at this point she should totally be the main character.
Lapis's Pov
It had been almost two weeks since my conversation with Hess. I hadn't been able to think about anything else. It wasn't even anything in particular that Hess said. It was why she said it.
Are you coming or not?
I sighed and threw on a sweatshirt. I wondered if it'd be worth it to ask Mom if I could even go in the first place, then decided against it. I locked the bedroom door and pulled myself through the window, landing on my feet and heading out.
"I'm here," I called as I neared Red. I noticed that no one else was there. "WHere the hell is everybody?" He turned around to face me.
"Did I say they'd be here?" I sighed as he came up to me and put his arm around my shoulder. "It's just you and me tonight babe."
"You and I." I corrected. He sighed and rolled his eyes.
"Right. You and I." I sighed again.
"I'm sorry. My mom's just been on my ass about getting my grades back up. She'd be really fucking pissed if she knew I was here right now." We started walking, his arm still around me. "Where are we even going?" Red smirked.
"Somewhere."
"You're a terrible actor," I informed him. "Let me guess, we're going to the beach." He sighed and smiled.
"Damn babe, you're too good at this." I rolled my eyes.
"Where the hell else would we go?" It took close to half an hour, but we finally made it to the beach.
"Tada! Here we are!" Red said, gesturing to the Ocean.
"You're old enough to drive, why don't you fucking borrow someone's car next time?"
"No license." I sighed and rolled my eyes again.
"Whatever." I stepped off of the wooden path and onto the sand, but Red grabbed my arm and turned me back to him.
"Hey, are you okay?"
"I'm fine, why?"
"You've been in a pissy mood the past week or two. Did I do something?" Yes.
"No, you're fine. It's just..." I sighed and tore my arm from his grip. "It's nothing. Let's go." Red watched me carefully but followed me down closer to the shoreline.
I kicked off my shoes and edged closer to the Ocean, letting the cold water hit my toes. Red came and stood behind me, resting his chin on my head. We stood like that for a moment, until I heard someone whistle. I snapped my head around and saw a group of people sitting in the sand not too far off.
"Why not join us, lovebirds?" A familiar snarky voice called. I sighed and bent down to grab my shoes. The giggling and whistles continued until Red and I sat down.
"What the hell are you guys doing here?" I asked, tossing my shoes into the center.
"It's a public beach, Lazuli." Drav sneered. I rolled my eyes.
"I don't give a shit if it's the middle of the school hallway, I just want to know why the fuck you came here tonight." Hess rolled her eyes.
"It's a god damn Saturday night, we obviously came here to study." I scoffed.
"Whatever. I'm just surprised no one said anything. Everyone glanced at each other and laughed.
"I'm sorry, I didn't realize we were obligated to keep you updated on all of our activities." I was this close to outright slapping Hess across the face, and Red could feel it. He put his arms around me protectively.
"Come on guys, knock it off."
"Aw, c'mon Red, but we're having fun!" Drav laughed. Red grumbled and stood up, dragging Drav up with him. He was still laughing hysterically and Hess was still quietly snickering, but other than that we all sat in silent preparation for what we all saw coming.
Red punched Drav in the face, knocking him to the ground and making him spit blood. He stood up and wiped his mouth on his sweatshirt sleeve, punching Red back. It wasn't as strong as Red's punch, but it still sent him reeling. In an instant, they were completely attacking each other, and while they fought I finally slapped Hess.
It took Hess a second to respond, but when she finally did she slapped me back. Tanz and Andy looked back and forth between the two fights while we constantly hurled insults at one another.
"You're such a fucking bitch-"
"You and your whore girlfriend-"
"Can't make up your fucking mind-"
"Too high to realize how much of a dickhead you are-"
After a few minutes, I finally pushed Hess off. Seething with anger, I shoved myself between Red and Drav.
"Just shut the fuck up, everybody!" I pushed Red away. "What the fuck were you thinking?" Red glared over my should at Drav as he wiped blood and spit from his now bruised lip.
"Because he's a fucking asshole and so are the rest of them. All they do is talk shit about you when you're not around and I'm fucking sick of it."
"So you decide to fucking punch him?"
"You slapped Hess!" I sighed.
"I can't fucking do this anymore, Red!" He stopped and stared at me.
"Do what?"
"This!" I gestured wildly between the two of us. "I can't keep doing this because every time you walk away I don't care if you ever come back! I feel uncomfortable when we're alone together because there's fucking nothing there. I find myself feeling more sorry for you and pissed off at you than anything." Red was practically crying.
"Lapis, I... we can make this work." I shook my head.
"I don't think we can. It's all fine to be stuck in some limbo where we go and smoke pot with your friends then sleep together but in the end I feel caged by you." I sighed. "I'm sorry Red." He sniffed then pulled me in for a hug, breathig in the scent of my hair.
"You deserve everything that's coming, Lazuli." I nodded.
"I know."
"You're the best and the worst." I nodded again.
"I know."
