Ayaan Profile!
Hello there! Here are facts about Ayaan! A Profile, if you will. I hope to do more of these in the future! Thank you all for being so wonderful during this time. Now, on to the facts!
.
ABOUT HIS NAME
.
Ayaan (Ah-YAHN), His name means "God's Gift". Kya, his mother, named him this instinctually, as well as the fact that she saw him as a gift that blessed their then-small family.
When thinking of his name, I came across other good ones such as Atka, which means Guardian Spirit, and Tulok, which means Warrior, and was also mentioned to be the name of the Inuit god of the stars. Both of them were Inuit names from what I could find, which is who the Water Tribe was loosely based on from what I gathered.
In the end, I choose Ayaan, as it fits more with what Kya was thinking at the time. I will indeed still be using these names in the future though. I have a plan for them, probably.
I have a lot of plans for this story going forward.
.
ABOUT HIS BODY
.
Ayaan is tall. Currently, he stands at 6'5", and he is still growing. By the time Book 1 ends, our boy will stand at 6'8"... AND HE'S STILL GROWING!
The reason I wrote him like that is because I wanted him to literally stand out from the norm. From what I researched about ancient times and Chinese culture, it was rare for them to be very tall, outside of the five-foot range. I'm sure they had their outliers, and it may not be completely accurate as I didn't delve super deep into the matter.
Ayaan is special. How that is, I will not say. But he is different from the people around him. I wanted that difference to show in his form and how he grows. His hair, how he heals, his strength, subtle things that will steadily set him apart from the rest.
Now, back to the facts. He has a mesomorph-type body. What that means is he is muscular with a slim waist and wide shoulders. Muscular hourglass, dear readers. If he had to wear a bra, he'd need a DD cup. He is toned, with firm muscles since he consistently trains. His hands can dwarf others, and when he flexes one can see his veins prominently.
I wish I had the skill to draw them how I see them in my mind. I'll get there someday. I practice all the time just so I can do it. Just wait for me.
Now about his burn, one of the signature things about Ayaan. I mentioned in the story somewhere that it covers about 25% of his body, though I am not quite sure if those numbers are right. One comment mentioned that it seemed more around 15% than what I had. While I can't get percentages right to save my life, I can tell you accurately how it travels.
It trails over his nose, with another trail going over his cheek, missing his eye. It continues down his neck, where it splits in two directions. One goes over his arm up to his wrist, wrapping around it in off-and-on spots.
The other goes down his body, curving over his right peck and down his side, going around his back in the same fashion. It stops at the middle of his stomach, not reaching his waist. It swirls around a bit, though I haven't exclusively drawn it aside from a few artworks.
His scar, unlike normal scars of its kind, is smooth. While it does have ridges, it is unusual. I made it like that for a reason. It healed greatly from what it once was, as it had covered that half of his upper body in different degrees when it first happened.
The only reason it isn't more detrimental is spiritual interference, which shall be touched on more as the story progresses!
The reason he doesn't have other scars from the times he hunted animals and was injured is for the same reason. Unless they are particularly big, it takes more for him to scar than others.
.
ABOUT HIS PERSONALITY
.
Ayaan is quiet. Unless you are family or the equivalent, he isn't likely to speak openly with you. He will speak if asked a question, but if he doesn't like you, don't expect anything from him. While his family has been trying to get him to speak more, he's more likely to answer with expressions and body language. Only recently has he been opening up more to speaking.
On one side, Ayaan is kind and nurturing. He tucks his siblings (Aang is included in this thought) in after they fall asleep, takes care of gathering food, and warms their clothes before they wake. While he trains them ruthlessly, it is not to the point its abuse. He knows their limits and never goes beyond what they can handle, and he makes it his mission not to actually hurt them aside from what's normal in a spar.
He is assertive in both his opinions and brutally honest if asked about them. If he isn't sorry, he isn't going to say he is. This goes for punishments he gives out as well. He won't give out training that can't be handled, but he will, indeed, make it hell on earth to deal with if he's pissed.
And he'll tell you, straight up, that making it more difficult was the point. He can be a sadistic gremlin when he wants to be. It's not often, but it happens.
On the other side, Ayaan can be dark, as seen when he was ready to murder Bumi in Chapter 25—
'Regicide?'
The children could hear something 'snap' in the distance.
'So be it.'
It was Ayaan's rationality.
—Laying waste to the soldiers patrolling the Mining Towns in Chapter 36—
Ayaan picked him up from the rubble by his throat as if he were disgusting trash. With that expression, the tax collector was sure that was exactly what the young man thought of him. His helmet had been discarded, a dented mess upon the ground, so one could see his face turning blue from the lack of air.
No, this was not a young man...
It was a monster. A complete monster.
—And the cold shoulder he first showed to Suki in Chapter 16—
"My name is Suki, it's nice to meet you." She said, no longer being hostile towards them.
"If I said the same, I would be lying, Suki." Was his immediate response to that greeting. He wasn't going to lie about how he was feeling at the moment. He did not trust them, at all.
Though he keeps his anger and displeasure close to his heart, there are times when he breaks the masks and lets his feelings be known to the others, as witnessed towards the end of Chapter 25.
"You act like nothing could possibly go wrong!" He retorted, the raise in his voice making all of their eyes widen.
He holds grudges for a very long time. It takes a lot to get him to that level of dislike, and he is hard to befriend once you've crossed that line. But it isn't impossible, as Suki managed to do it.
Not Bumi, though, he still hates him.
As you've most likely guessed, Ayaan has PTSD from what happened with his mother. He often times has horrible nightmares, which sometimes escalate to night terrors, which gives him a chronic form of insomnia. By now, he's gotten used to the bare minimum of sleep he's able to get, and it's gotten better through Appa and Momo's companionship.
He does not let his negative emotions often show to his family. If something bothers him, he will more than likely keep it to himself under the pretense that he doesn't want them to worry. This goes for his anger, sadness, and any other negative that can be explosive if he lets even a bit of it out.
It is unhealthy, which is why he has lapses of control over it. Gran-Gran had been trying to get him to express his emotions in healthier ways before they set out on their journey, and hadn't gotten very far in it.
But he is used to wearing a mask of "I'm fine". Which, up until now, only Gran-Gran had been able to see through.
Ayaan used to smile widely, enough to show all of his teeth when he was elated. The siblings hadn't seen that smile since that day, as he never revealed such happiness ever again. His smiles now are small, rarely ever being that wide.
The only ones that have even seen Ayaan shed any tears are his mother, his grandmother, Appa, and Momo. Since the incident, he never allowed himself to cry in front of his family again.
He has, and never plans, to let such a weak side of him show to anyone else.
Except for Gran-Gran, she's a powerful woman he can't hide anything from.
Sokka is working on it though.
Yet as the journey goes on, more and more bits of that mask will slowly, surely, fall apart. Because, sooner rather than later, it will become way too much for him to contain.
.
And Now, Little Things You May Not Know
.
#1: Ayaan has a crescent moon-shaped birthmark at the base of the back of his neck. It's small, and not many notices it unless one is looking for it. I'm going to elaborate on it a lot more later, as it will become significant.
#2: You all have realized that Ayaan's eyes change color, yes? They become more vivid when he's angry and grayer when he's stressed out. While these are the only two instances of it happening, there is a third and a fourth you haven't seen yet! Both have something to do with things outside normal means, so I'll be leaving them up to the imagination for now~
#3: Ayaan prefers savory foods over sweets. He isn't used to having sweet foods, and in the chances that they did he often times left it be. It's not that he won't eat them, it just is not his favorite.
Ayaan eyed the dessert before taking it. "Okay..." He said, watching as the boy lit up at the acceptance. He eagerly waited for the older male to take a bite, and hesitantly, Ayaan did.
"It's sweet." He said after taking the bite. Ayaan's knowledge of sweets was very limited. He did not eat them often, if at all. Living in the South Pole, one did not simply have sweet pastries readily available.
#4: He can, indeed, sing! His singing voice sounds nothing like his actual voice. Yes, he is one of those that you'd be like "WHAT? WHEN? HOW?" If he ever showed his talent.
When they were younger, he used to sing the lullaby he often heard on the wind. Of course, no one but his grandmother ever knew where he'd heard the tune, but they loved his soothing voice. I do not have an exact voice claim for him, though Matt Bloyd, Boyce Avenue, ASTN, and Darin Zanyar are some picks I had in mind. There could be more though.
#5: Ayaan has excellent control of his movements, so much so that if he had to, he'd actually be pretty good at dancing!
#6: His favorite color is green. He actually liked the Kyoshi Outfit a lot because of the color.
#7: Despite all of the headaches his family causes him, traveling the world is something he enjoys immensely. Ayaan loves nature, animals, and learning about new places. If things were different, he may have left the south pole on his own to explore the world.
But alas, that didn't happen. War exist, people died, and he was left unable to pursue those silent dreams thanks to the sudden responsibility dropped on him.
He's thankful that meeting Aang has reopened that chance for him, even though it's much different than he wanted.
#8: Ayaan is ambidextrous!
#9: I've gotten a lot of questions about his sexuality. Honestly, I don't know what to do with it. At first, I unintentionally wrote him in an aro/ace manner. And then my comments are constantly being flooded with AyaanXZuko even though that ship will not sail. I'm not afraid to write BL, but I did not have Ayaan set up with a guy.
I can make a spin-off after Lunar Warrior is finished if that is still something you guys wants by then, though!
Some have asked for Yon to be a love interest. Some for Toph. Some For Azula (I have no idea where that came from though) and some for Ty Lee. There were other mentions, too, for other characters.
Ayaan may have a love interest, but I thought of having it be OC X OC. I don't want any type of romance I write to feel forced. But that was for Book 2, far off right now. Our boi is simply too focused on keeping his family alive and his own demons that he can't focus on love.
In the Avatar Universe, however, he is indeed of the age to marry. If I have it right, they usually arranged marriages at 16, and Ayaan is 17, on the cusp of being 18 by the time they reach the North Pole.
If you have any thoughts on this bit, you're free to inbox me! I love listening to all types of opinions. Though the best place to communicate with me is my discord. Please join! I'd love to see you guys there!
Moving on!
#10: If he had the freedom, Ayaan would definitely have a spear collection that rivaled Tenya Iida (my hero academia) with his glasses.
#11: Ayaan is a quick learner, show him something and he'll be able to get it quicker than most others would. Don't get me started on that being physical activities. Sports? If they had a bit more time, he and Aang could have played a real game of Air Ball and mans isn't an Airbender!
And now, last (for now) but not least...
#12: Ayaan is competitive. Like, really, scarily competitive. Don't challenge him on something he knows well, you will end up in a seemingly life-or-death struggle trying to one-up him. It was for this reason that that poor dude on the rig got bodied so ruthlessly.
He thought that maybe Lee had been exaggerating when he'd answered him. This boy, sure, was trained well, but so was he. It did not matter his stature or his weapon. He could take him, he was proving that now with their continuous exchange of blows.
But his thoughts stopped cold when he saw his face.
'He's... smiling? Why is he smiling?'
Ayaan was smiling. No, he was laughing. He wasn't afraid of him at all. He wasn't cowering at the fact that he was strong nor did he bat an eye at his show of bending.
'The prince's fire bending was much more than this, but...'
But this piece of garbage wasn't a bad fighter. In fact, he was much better than the ones Ayaan had previously encountered. Unlike his fellow guards, he did not insult the spear he wielded. He knew how to use it well, and was putting up a fight with Ayaan with it despite how different it was from his own.
The boy found a vicious smile growing on his face. "Finally."
The sudden barrage of devastating hits earned pained grunts from the firebender, the battle between them shifting dangerously. "What the─"
"A stronger prey."
And that's it, folks! I hope you enjoyed this little chapter of information! If you have suggestions on other perks Ayaan could have, again, feel free to inbox me! Though Discord is preferred!
See ya in the next chapter!
