Chapter 23

I pressed my lips into a thin line before I folded my arms across my chest, not saying a word. I leaned back against my seat before I looked at my sister and then looked at Samuel again, silently debating on whether or not we should do this.

"It'll be safe," Alexia said and slowly nodded, pressing her lips into a thin line, and I looked at her and raised an eyebrow in question. "I want you to see if there is something there, as well."

I bit back a tired sigh and moved a hand through my hair before I slowly nodded, silently agreeing that we should do this. "Ok," I said before I cleared my throat and shifted in my seat, and I couldn't help but hesitate and pray that nothing bad would happen to us while we went there. "When do we want to do this?" I asked while I raised an eyebrow in question and looked between the two of them.

"Now?" Samuel asked while he cocked his head and studied me, raising an eyebrow in question. "I mean is there anything else that we need to do, or do you want to go ahead and do it?"

I hesitated before I slowly nodded while I stood. "Ok," I said before I cleared my throat and shifted on my feet. "Let's go ahead and go see the spot where I had killed Alexia. It's not going to be anything of importance, but we can do it."

Samuel nodded and set his jaw while he stood. "Do you think that we should let Blue know?" he asked and cocked his head and studied me, and I bit back a tired sigh and nodded.

"Yes," I said before I cleared my throat and shifted on my feet. 'Hey, Blue?' I asked, instantly linking him while I started to walk toward the front door with Samuel, Isen, who was still invisible, and my sister following me without saying a word.

'Yes, what is it? Are you ok? Is the baby ok?' Blue asked, instantly linking me back. Concern and worry filled his voice, and I couldn't help but bite back a small, tired smile, grateful that he still cared about me even after so many years and so much heartbreak.

I bit back a small chuckle and mentally nodded. 'Yes, I am ok, Blue,' I said, my voice barely above a whisper. I cleared my throat and licked my lips. 'And so is Alexandria. She's still down for a nap, and I don't think that she will be waking up anytime soon.'

Blue breathed a small sigh of relief and mentally nodded. 'Then what can I do for you?' he asked and mentally raised an eyebrow in question. 'What's wrong?'

'Can you do me a favor and watch over Dia when she wakes up, please?' I asked. I licked my lips and hesitated before I opened the front door and gestured for the group to walk through, and they did so with Isen touching my elbow in a small, reassuring manner. 'Samuel wants to see the spot where I had killed Alexia...'

Blue paused and narrowed his eyes while he scowled. 'Why?' he asked, becoming very protective of me and my mental state of mind, and my heart grew warm. 'Why would he want to do such a thing?'

'Because he wants to see if there is something about that place that we should know,' I said. I moved a hand through my hair and shook my head, pursing my lips in annoyance. 'Isen is going to come with me and so is Alexia, but I want to show him.'

'Are you sure?' he asked. 'What if you get hurt?'

What if you end up trying to kill yourself again afterward..?

I bit back a tired sigh and mentally shook my head. 'I have too much to lose,' I replied honestly, 'more than I had in the past, and I will not do that to my daughter, to either of them. I'd much rather leave than let that happen.'

Blue bit back a tired sigh and mentally shook his head, and I knew that he moved a hand through his hair and across his face while he pursed his lips in annoyance. 'Can I stop you?' he asked, earning a small snort from me while I rolled my eyes and scowled.

'When have you ever been able to do that?' I asked and mentally raised an eyebrow in question. I closed the door and started to walk in the direction that I had killed my sister, knowing full well that I would be able to keep this conversation going while we walked further and further away from him and to where I had killed her all of those years ago.

Samuel followed while Isen was on one side of me and Alexia was on the other. No one said a word while I talked to Blue, and I couldn't help but wonder what Samuel was thinking, especially since he now knew that my sister was "alive," even though she was a ghost.

Blue bit back a small chuckle. 'Who else is with you?' he asked, changing the subject, and I couldn't help but breathe a small sigh of relief while my whole body seemed to relax from the amount of stress that I was under.

Oh thank Goddess...

'My sister and Isen,' I said. 'Both of them will make sure that I stay safe and that nothing bad will happen to me. You do not have to worry about that, Blue.'

Blue bit back a small chuckle and mentally shook his head. 'I am not,' he said before he cleared his throat and grew serious. 'I know that they will be making sure that you stay safe and alive, but I must warn you to be careful.' He paused and cleared his throat again. 'Sometimes waking the dead is dangerous, and this might be one of those times.'

'But I have the source of the dead connected to me already, Blue,' I said and mentally gave him a pointed look, and Blue chuckled and mentally nodded in confirmation. 'I know that it might be dangerous, and I pray that it is not, but I will not be in any trouble if something bad does happen to me.'

"What is he saying?" Samuel asked and raised an eyebrow in question. He looked at me and cocked his head and studied me with a small frown on his face. "You seem to be having an important conversation with him."

I bit back a tired sigh and slowly nodded. "He is worried that this is going to be dangerous for me," I replied with a small shrug and grimaced, pressing my lips into a thinner line. I folded my arms across my chest and tucked my head closer to my chest, clearing my throat. "And that sometimes waking the dead is dangerous."

"But waking the living can also be dangerous," Samuel said. "You of all people know that, ans." He gave me a pointed look and raised both eyebrows in unison, even though I didn't turn to look at him. "Blue should also know that."

I bit back a small chuckle and slowly nodded in confirmation. "I am sure that he does," I said before I cleared my throat and grew serious, licking my lips. "And one of those days, the dead and the living will not be as dangerous as we think they are." I made sure that Blue was able to hear that as well.

Blue chuckled sadly before he sighed and moved a hand through his hair, growing serious. 'Be careful and let me know if you need anything, Anastasia,' he said with a small hum in his voice. 'I will be there as soon as I can to help.'

I bit back a small smile and mentally nodded, and my heart grew warm while I tapped my arm with my finger. 'I will,' I promised before I cleared my throat and grew serious. 'I will let you know if I need you. Thanks, Blue. I appreciate you, for everything that you do and have done."

Blue mentally smiled before he pulled away, ending the conversation between us.

"But until then, we will watch your back," Samuel said and bowed, submitting ever so slightly. "You are not in this alone, Anastasia, and you will never be alone. You have my word."

And with that, we went the rest of the way in silence with me praying that it was soon, for it sometimes felt like I was alone with no one, not even myself, could understand what I was going through.

Oh Goddess, protect me...
