Chapter 11: The Problem With Sprites
Hi everyone! I hope this update finds you all well. I meant to update this sooner, but with me still adjusting to motherhood (it's weird to think I have an almost 3 month old now) sometimes I forget things or haven't got the time. She doesn't just sleep and eat anymore (now she wants to start to look at mobiles, shake rattles, attempt to talk to us and sit more upright, etc.), so I don't always get a lengthy break in the afternoon anymore. Some days, I have NO break until the husband gets home from work, and then sometimes work still isn't done.
But with the teaser trailer dropping for the Artemis Fowl movie yesterday, I couldn't resist getting this chapter done and posted for you! I'm very excited about the movie (I mean... I've been waiting for 17 years at this point, 18 by the time it's in theaters) but I am also very nervous about what they may do with it. I know they have made quite a few changes, and I'm not sure how I feel about most of them. I'm open to talk about it with any of you! I'm sure I have been bothering my husband and best friends about this movie and would love to talk about it with other fans!
This chapter may need a bit of a warning. I did try to warn you all at the beginning this one may be a bit more dark and adult in nature than the previous book, but I felt the need to warn you again. There is a non-consensual kiss in this chapter, and while it doesn't go far beyond that, I know that alone could prove to be distressing for some.
Anyways, here's chapter 11! I hope to have more up soon!

Alex and Diana were shoved down a hallway and up a set of stairs, completely away from the rest of the group. It appeared as if they were in a refurbished warehouse of sorts that looked as if the main floor had been converted into a giant office space with cubicles and everything. Fairies dressed in tie-dye clothes and peace signs were among the office space, some panicking slightly while others were completely calm. Alex slowed down to glance around but was shoved back into motion. Diana hadn't bothered to stop and look; this wasn't her first hostage situation after all. She didn't need to look around to know this was their base.
A few moments later, the dwarves that were leading them herded them both into a side door. Through the door was a room that had dark green walls and beige carpet. Two twin-sized mattresses were lined against the wall to the right with dark brown comforters and pillows of various green and tans. Honestly if it wasn't for the fact they were being essentially kidnapped, Diana would've been rather comfortable in this room. The dwarves un-cuffed the two girls and skittered out of the room, locking the door behind them.
The girls were rubbing their wrists where the cuffs dug in as they took in their new surroundings. One of the first things Diana noticed was a video camera above the door making sure that its occupants weren't trying any funny business. There was a single door in the back left corner of the room, and Alex took it upon herself to investigate it while Diana continued to look around the room.
Alex stepped into the room, looking around suspiciously at the bathroom. Sure enough, in the corner was another security camera just beside the toilet. Alex sighed angrily; a camera in the bathroom of all places! The nerve. She glanced around again, trying to figure out a way to cover the camera so they could at least have privacy in the bathroom. There was a small cabinet next to the sink, and upon opening it, she found several fluffy towels. Alex grabbed three from the shelves, setting two on the counter. She then stood up on the toilet lid and draped the third towel over it. Problem solved, at least for now. Alex was already angry since the weather refused to cooperate, and now she was just pissed because she and Diana were stuck in a strange room and were likely being watched by a creepy sprite.
"Pervert," she muttered to herself before grabbing the two remaining towels and heading back to the main room, where Diana just stood shaking her head. Alex handed her friend the towel before speaking again. "I hope you won't get mad at me, but your boyfriend is so getting punched in the face when and if I see him again."
"Can't say I blame you for that," Diana sighed as she began to shiver from the rain on her arms and face. The girl wrapped herself in the towel, hoping it would start warming her up a bit more. While wet, at least her clothes weren't completely drenched. There was no way she was going to change with a camera watching, so she was just going to live with it.
Alex sighed as the cold began to get to her too. "Although I guess he did try to warn them about the weather," she went on, pausing for a moment to wrap herself in her towel, "but Holly would kick my ass so he's my default anger target."
Diana hesitantly looked at one of the beds, unsure of its safety or cleanliness. They seemed to be brand new, but that didn't make her feel any better about it. She sat down on the bed, but was far from happy about it. Whoever had picked these mattresses had the opposite taste than she did; if she ever slept during their time here, Diana was almost certain she would be more comfortable on the floor. She picked up the throw blanket from the end of the bed and wrapped it over the towel, covering herself a bit more.
"We have to find some way out of here soon. Heaven knows we can't count on them for help," Diana said quietly. "Who knows what they're going through right now."
"Well, what can we do exactly?" Alex asked. She walked over and sat on her bed so she could focus better when the door to the room opened.
The same tiny green man from earlier walked in with two large dwarves on either side of him. Alex and Diana looked at the sprite and knew instantly that it was Ortherion. His buzzed orange hair and long pointy ears seemed out of place with his wings, jeans, and a dark gray t-shirt. Alex stared at him skeptically and Diana just glared, entirely unimpressed. This was the guy who was ranting and raving at the rally not but maybe an hour ago?
"Welcome to my humble abode," Ortherion greeted with a half-assed bow.
"I hate you," Alex muttered.
"Go to hell," Diana echoed.
"Such hostility," the sprite smiled deviously, "restrain them please." The dwarves did as they were told, standing Diana and Alex up and cuffing their hands in front of them. When they were finished the dwarves stood back by the doors. "Thank you; that will be all." Then the dwarves disappeared, closing the door behind them. Alex had a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach and she could see that Diana wasn't feeling much better about the situation.
"I don't know what you're expecting to get out of us. It's not like we actually know anything," Alex broke the ice, shrugging her shoulders.
The sprite walked over and caressed Diana's cheek, an action that made her shudder, "I'm after something of more value than petty LEP information."
"You won't get whatever it is that you are looking for," Diana pulled away from the sprite's hand. Ortherion moved his attention to Alex who never took her cautious eyes off of him.
"Considering the situation, you're in no place to tell me what I can and can't have," Ortherion grinned viciously. He snapped his fingers and the dwarves re-entered the room. He pointed at Alex and the dwarves came over and held Alex by the arms as he made his way to Diana.
Diana scooted back on the bed precariously, knowing very well what was to come. The sprite threw himself at the human, planting his lips against hers desperately. Diana didn't know what to do at first. She began trying to get away but with her arms cuffed it was near impossible, even if the sprite was half her size.
Alex began to thrash around trying to get free from the dwarves. Alex threw her head back and hit one in the face, knocking him unconscious while screaming at Diana, "Get a knee up!" Then she rammed the other one into a wall.
Not that Diana really needed help. Diana didn't know a whole lot about sprite anatomy, but if it was anything like a human's she knew what she was about to do was going to hurt. Since the dwarves didn't restrain her legs, she was able to do exactly as Alex suggested, bringing one of her knees up and thrusting it between his legs with all her might. The sprite immediately relinquished his grasp on the girl, falling to the floor screaming in agony. Alex instantly ran towards the sprite and tackled him, causing both of them to hit a wall. Diana jumped up and immediately began kicking the sprite, who was now curled in the fetal position.
More of Ortherion's followers came into the room to attempt to pull Diana away as she continued to try and kill the sprite. It took more of them than they cared to admit, but they were eventually able to pull her a sufficient distance away from Ortherion. They drug Alex to her feet and moved her out of the way without consequence. She was still stunned from the impact of her head into the wall and didn't put up much of a fight. After a minute, Ortherion stood up, refusing help from the elves that had come to his aid. Blue sparks swirled around his open wounds near the ribs Diana had just broken.
Suddenly she was glad she kept playing soccer after high school. Her leg muscles remained strong, and had just perhaps saved her from being much more violated than just a forced kiss from a womanizing sprite.
"Keep them in here!" he shouted, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth. He turned to look at the girls once again. "I will break you two sooner rather than later. You've just decided your friends' fates."
Then he walked out of the room, his entourage following close behind him. The door shut and locked, leaving Diana and Alex alone in the room once again. Diana took a deep breath, attempting to calm herself down, but Alex was more worried about something else.
"Dammit! He left the cuffs on," she whined.
Diana looked over at her, not even acknowledging her friend's comment. "I can't believe you tackled him into the wall," she replied.
"Well, what else could I have done to get him off of you?" Alex asked, mind completely distracted as she attempted to figure out a way to escape the cuffs.
Diana still felt positively repulsed, and was in too much shock for her brain to want to work. "He is so creepy! And a really crappy kisser! I feel so violated right now!"
"Well considering what just happened, I'd be feeling pretty damn violated too right now," Alex retorted. She glanced at her friend and suddenly had an idea. "Di, do you have a bobby pin in your hair?"
"Yeah, there's a few trying to hold this bun together," Diana answered. She was about to ask why and then it hit her. "You're going to try to use one to break out of these cuffs aren't you?"
"Bingo." Alex was already reaching up into her friend's hair, yanking a bobby pin from the messy bun. She bent the small hairpiece expertly and stuck the tip into the pinhole of the lock on the cuffs. She twisted it carefully, feeling it enter the small groove that turns the mechanism. The lock popped open instantly and Alex removed her cuffs before she started on Diana's.
"I'm not even going to ask you how you know how to do this," Diana muttered, rubbing her wrists once they were free.
"Perhaps it's best you don't know," Alex replied. "So now what?"
Diana sighed and went back to sit on the bed once again. "We have to wait and find out what that crazy little maniac has planned for the rest of our group."
"I have a feeling it's really not going to be good," Alex said honestly.
"I'm thinking it's going to be something along the lines making us watch him kill our friends," Diana mumbled. "That's the kind of criminal he strikes me as- boring and terribly cliche." She paused. "Arty better have a really good plan to get us out of this one."
"I'm still kicking his ass if we get out of this," Alex replied, matter of factly.
Diana didn't say anything but instead curled up under the covers again. She was exhausted and now incredibly worried about Artemis and the remainder of their group. They were in really deep here and the odds weren't looking so good unless someone came up with something and fast. Especially since unlike last time, the villain seemed to be more interested in her for personal reasons rather than just straight up revenge. Her stomach turned just thinking about what could've just happened to her. She shook her head and pulled the blanket over her head.
For the first time in a long time, she worried herself to sleep.
