Congratulations on the successful delivery of your baby girl Jaesan! In honor of you being now the father of four daughters, our entire team went out and got piss drunk. I think Chansul will be sending you some photos soon (that is, if he ever survives his hangover).

How is retirement treating you? I imagine it must be very peaceful where you are: coastal town, picturesque view, three whole hours away from the city. The sea air must really clear your head and heart. Chansul says you've opened up a cafe. You - the man who once tried to make hard-boiled eggs by microwaving them in the oven! I guess miracles do exist.

By the way ... there are three boxes of ginseng enclosed with this letter. Chansul read somewhere that ginseng was good for postpartum recovery, and suggested the entire team get together to buy Seongja a box. Except he forgot he told us and bought a box on his own. Then he forgot he bought a box and bought another one. Without you around, no one is keeping his absent-minded ass in check.

Chansul says Jaesan was born at 53 cm, 3.4 kg. That's tall. Any chance of her continuing where you left off? Personally I have no doubts ... so I'll be waiting.

Congratulations again, team captain!

Your forever setter,
Yu Haneul

Obituaries (page 6, column 4)

IT IS with great sadness that we announce the passing of Samdo Kindergarten first-grade teacher Lee Minji. She was twenty-six. Born and raised in Samdo-myeon all her life, she graduated with a diploma in teaching and spent the next eight years guiding the young, bright minds of Samdo Kindergarten. She was a valuable pillar of our community and will be dearly missed by both her students and fellow teaching staff.

Lee Minji is survived by her husband Dr. Hak Sang-Ook and her newborn son, Hak Tae-geun. The funeral will be held on Saturday, October 19, at 1 p.m. at Samdo-myeon Funeral Home. We invite the entire village to attend.
