Chapter Twenty-Eight
Emilie was thrown too the opposite side of the room as her sister laughed evilly at Set's doing. The Egyptian God was completely under the control of Emilie's twin sister, Amelie. Adrien looked up at his Auntie and saw the evil expression take over her face. He couldn't help but flinch at the look of pure hatred in her eyes. She was here for a reason, she was here to damage the other person in the way of herself and Gabriel. The door slammed open and both Nathalie and Lila stepped foot into the room. Lila heading for Adrien, as Nathalie walked towards Amelie.
"These sentimonsters are fantastic. They do exactly as you want them to, and all you need is a tiny object to control them." Amelie pulled out a chain round her neck, indicating it to Nathalie. Placed on the chain was a tiny pendant that looked like a small hand print.
"If only Gabriel had stayed with me when he found out I was pregnant with Felix then none of this would be happening. But no! He found out I wasn't his darling wife and dumped me there and then on the spot. I mean really? Who pushes away the mother to their own offspring." She placed her hand around the pendant and Nathalie started to walk towards Emilie.
Emilie was bleeding. She had multiple cuts around her face and body, along with bruising already making its appearance over her bare arms. Nathalie walked over and grabbed Emilie by the neck, lifting her up and placing her onto the table again ready for Lila to tie her down again.
"As much as I do like hurting you sis, there is someone more important in the room. Set, leave." Amelie walked over to Adrien and peered at him from head to toe, as the large God exited the room.
Apart from being almost severely dehydrated, Adrien was ready and willing to fight. If only they would undo his ties. He would leap into action. Not that he could do much without Plagg, but the extra training he had been doing would definitely give him some sort of skill in combat. He was really regretting how he'd left things with Marinette. He didn't want his last conversation with her to be an argument. Oh, how he wished he could go back in time and redo that final conversation. He would take her into his arms and make sure she knew exactly how much he loved her.
"Adrien, you are the reason Gabriel isn't with me! If it wasn't for you and your slag of a mother I would be happily living my life and none of this would be happening." She placed her hand firmly around Adrien's neck. She wasn't squeezing yet, but the fear ran through him that at any moment he would be taking his last breath.
"Now if I can get rid of you and my good for nothing sister, my life will be complete."
A ricochet sounded through the hallways bringing attention to the doorway. Amelia looked over loosening her grip on Adrien's neck. He let out a deep breath trying to recuperate his regular breathing pattern.
"We're not finished!" With that she left the room slamming the door shut and locking it. The only sound remaining were the deep breathes from Adrien and the grunts and groans from his injured mother.
"Mother? Are you ok?" Adrien's voice was harsh and raspy.
"I'm alive if that's what you're asking. You ok, son?" She tried to turn her head to look at her personal ray of sunshine only to find that her neck was injured, restricting her from moving.
It had all gotten too much! He couldn't hold back anymore as a silent tear rolled down his cheek. Never in his life had Adrien felt more helpless and more useless. He was meant to be a chosen one, a protector. Instead he had became the damsel in distress, how ironic. He began to think back over his time as Chat Noir. Receiving his miraculous, meeting Plagg and Ladybug. Fighting alongside the greatest woman he'd ever met. She was strong; sophisticated; and wonderful.
The battle against his father bringing closure to a part of his life. The late night patrols with his Lady. The training, the reveal, the love. The love that helped save his mother. The love that brought his Lady back from the brink of death. His love that created a new life, ending in a new kwami. Love! Everything linked back to love. The yin and yang. Soul mates. Two sides to a whole.
Marinette, Ladybug, his Lady, his Princess ... she was everything to him. His hand reached down into his pocket and he felt the odd shaped plastic resting in there. Ever since the Mecha Stike game night, the lucky charm stayed with him. It was a little piece of her.
Wrapping his fingers tightly around it, he closed his eyes picturing the girl with the hair as black as night, and eyes as blue as the sky. Her vision came clear into his mind.
"Adrien?" He could hear her speaking as if she was next to him.
"Kitty? Can you hear me?"
Meanwhile Marinette was circling the glowing charms in her fingers as she closed her eyes to picture Adrien. His sunshine hair was sprawled above his head and he looked pale. Very pale.
"Adrien? Am I imagining this or can I see you?" Her thoughts were passing through clearly to him as the beads in his fingers glided easily over the red string holding them together.
"Mari? Mari, is that really you? I hope this isn't a dream."
"I'm here, Chaton. Do you know where you are?" As Marinette spoke, Hugo came to rest on the Kwagatama. He positioned it in his hands and closed his eyes, absorbing himself into Marinette's thoughts.
"Papa, I'm here too. Stay talking. I can find out where you are."
"Bugaboo, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have said what I did. I shouldn't have just left."
"Adrien, don't! I was being my usual stubborn self it's my fault. All that matters now though is getting to you."
Hugo continued to track where the lovers thoughts were pinging backwards and forwards from, and he was quite sure he was close to pinpointing the exact location.
"I love you so much." Another tear fell from Adrien's eye, sliding sideways into his hair.
"I love you more minou."
"That's really not possible, m'lady."
Marinette laughed as tears dropped from the corner of each eye. They'd been separated only a few hours and already she couldn't cope being apart.
"You're such a dork. I'm looking forward to that vacation though, mon amore."
"Where do you want to go? Just name the country and I'll take you."
"As long as it's not Egypt I'll go anywhere with you."
"You not into the Egyptian Gods?"
They both laughed causing looks from those around them. Everyone knew they could pretty much read each other's thoughts but this was extreme even for them.
"I've got the place." Hugo shouted out.
"Hang tight Kitty cat, we're coming to get you."
"We?" Adrien asked back.
"The whole team." Marinette explained.
"I love you ..." she began.
"Forever and always." He finished letting go of the bracelet. He winced at the pain it had caused him having to stretch past the restraints to his pockets.
"Adrien, are you ok sweetheart?" His mother brought him fully back to the dire situation he was in.
"Hang tight, mother. Your future daughter-in-law is going to save the day." Emilie let out a chuckle at Adrien's choice of words.
She knew he was always a gentle one at heart but his love for Marinette was something else. She knew he would tell every person individually, if he could, just how much he adored his girlfriend. All Emilie wanted for her son, was to be loved and to be happy. Marinette was his life, and to be honest she was surprised he hadn't already proposed. After all, he'd had the ring made and designed months ago.
"When will she be my daughter-in-law?" Emilie asked her son.
"As soon as we get out of this mess, I will make her an Agreste. It's about time I got my act together and proposed."
A bang was suddenly heard outside their prison like room. Adrien couldn't help but think it was the holders coming to save him. He needed Plagg. He had to get Plagg back.
Screaming began to be heard into the corridors as it became obvious a battle was taking place. He prayed to the holy entities that Marinette would be safe. That Ladybug would be more powerful and protected than ever before.
A few more loud sounds were heard before silence. Complete silence. Adrien could hear his and his mother's heartbeats in the echo of the dormant room.
Suddenly a glow appeared in the middle of the room. It slowly increased in size, until three new faces were in the room.
"After three hundred and six tries we're finally in." Carapace dropped the shield from around Pegasus and Viperion as the portal closed behind them.
"Please don't tell LB, she'll kick our asses for not following her instructions the first time." Carapace walked over to Adrien as Viperion headed to Emilie.
"Thank you." As Viperion freed Emilie, she engulfed him into a bone crushing hug.
Carapace slammed his shield against Adrien's restraints freeing him from the restrictions. Sitting up he swung himself off the bed.
"I'm so glad to see you!" He fist bumped Nino before being taken over by a small black fuzz ball.
"Don't you ever do that again! We need you Adrien." Plagg was soon joined by Hugo.
"You've saved the day again little man." Adrien held his hand out for the small kwami to settle into.
"We've helped save the day by helping the fight but you, Chat Noir," Plagg held the ring up to Adrien, as Hugo offered the Kwagatama.
"You're the one who needs to finish it."
