CHAPTER NINETEEN | AMARA POV
"Wendigos?" I ask, confusion laced in my tone.
Jace nods in confirmation. "Yes, they've been hunting me down more madly recently. That night being one of them. I've been trying to kill each one I come across," His words trail off, "try, being the key word as my state is unpredictable."
"Your half breed state." I deadpan.
"If that's what they call it." He sighs, leaning back a bit.
I flip through the past few days and hours, the whispers and things that were said. "They said we're intertwined, do you have an idea of what they could be talking about?" I inquire, examining his disheveled features.
"Maybe. I only know how I've got in this position, and I know that you and I are somehow connected-"
I hear Ezra scoff in the background at this and I throw him a seriously? look to which he ignores with arms crossed.
"I knew from that night when I saw your eyes. Something felt different. Albeit temporary." Jace continues, "I've been trying to find answers for months- you have been the closest thing to an answer that I've found. I knew I had to find you."
His words give me a sense of unease, as if reality is finally settling in. My human life that I thought I've known front and back is now tangled.
"How did you...become what you are now?"
He pauses at this, with a hard stare. "Now, If I tell you everything now then what use will they have of me later?"
"There are other ways to get information out of you," Ezra remarks, coldly.
"Maybe, but if you hurt me, you hurt Amara and I don't think that's a risk a loverboy is willing to take." Jace taunts with a sarcastic smile.
"That's a lot of talk for someone who's windpipe I almost crushed a few hours ago."
My eyes widen at Ezra's remark, and I throw him an incredulous look to which he returns with a nonchalant gaze.
"Okay, that's enough." I feel a headache coming on from their constant arguing, I don't think I can get proper answers from Jace with Ezra being here. "Let's just revisit this another time."
Ezra motions towards the door with his head, as he pulls it open. I take another glance back at Jace, he who sits sullenly in the middle of the floor, hands tightly bound together with chain. It feels inhumane to see, but knowing what he's capable of...
I take my leave.

EZRA POV
Meeting. Now.
Ryder's voice echoes in my head.
I dread it, although I knew it was coming. In the past few months, our pack has spiraled. Our borders are constantly under attack, my mate is intertwined with that mutt. The thought alone has me clenching my fists to hold back the claws that attempt to escape.
I should've killed him when I had the chance.
I make a sharp turn around the corner to Ryder's office. I push the doors open, immediately I'm met with multiple gazes. Giada, Troy, Ryder all look to me expectingly.
"What have you found?" Ryder asks, leaning forward on his desk.
"For some reason the Wendigos are also targeting him, and have for the past few months." I disclose, falling onto seat next to Troy's.
Giada pierces her eyebrows together in deep thought,"A few months ago would be around the time where they began targeting us too, they know something we don't."
"Why would they also be targeting Silver Dawn?" Troy cuts in, "Unless they are aware of our alliances too?"
The room falls into a silence as we all take in the revelations, "We have to inform Silver Dawn. The Wendigos appear to want something we have, and they knew about it before we did." Ryder directs, frustration wreaking in his tone. "Did he mention anything else?"
I shook my head at this, "He refused to say further, at least in my presence." I scoff.
"Your ego can't get in the way of this. Whether you like it or not they are intertwined, and will need to learn to possess their strength. If they need to be alone for us to extract the information out of him so be it." I feel Ryder's hard gaze on me at this words.
I grit my teeth. "My mate is not a pawn in this game." I narrow my eyes and state firmly, attempting to mask my anger with the situation.
"She is now, and I will not listen further to your defiance." He snaps, eyes now blazing a deep gold color.
Mine undoubtedly mirrors his except ember, the anger threatens to pull our wolves out.
"We have a pack to protect, a legacy to oversee. Just put it aside for the better good Ezra." Giada reasons, beckoning for us to calm down with her expression.
"For once you want to be the pacifist?" I snarl. A loud screech erupts, I look down towards the source. My claws had dragged across the arms of the wooden chair I've sat on.
Troy gets up from his seat blocks my view of Ryder and Giada. "Is that all Alpha?" Troy inquires, as I focus on my breathing.
"Yes, take him and patrol the border." Ryder advises.
I don't wait for another word, I get up from the seat and push the doors open, Troy follows closely behind.
"Where's Amara now?" He asks.
"With Hyacinth, I've advised to pamper her today." I remark, irritably.
"She's being taken care of, let's focus on the assignment."
I almost want to laugh at this,"For now, We'll see what Ryder has in store."
Although it's a sarcastic joke, it's painfully true. I don't know what Ryder and the Elders have in mind for her. Her being human already caused enough turmoil, but how could she also be connected to that fucking thing?
END OF CHAPTER
Short chapter!! A little filler to get an inside look from different perspectives.
Do we have theories on what the Wendigos are plotting?
What do we think of Jace?
